I love credit cards so much!

@WVMomof3 I just got off the phone with Chase and booked 7 day park hopper tickets to WDW using URs from my CSR. I was told I would get an email confirmation within an hour and I got an email with their travel supplier's confirmation number. This doesn't work for Disney so I called the phone number for the travel supplier and they said it's in the system but hasn't been processed yet. The details say something about getting a final confirmation number 60 days before my trip but that sure as heck won't work for me so I'm hoping I get the e-tickets or a will call number or something in the next day. Even when I buy tickets from a normal TA it can take time for Disney tickets to come through. Will update when I finally get them hooked into MDE.

I will update our reddit post with my experience actually booking the tickets but I mentioned I had a friend who was having problems trying to do this and the rep said to make sure to ask for the "cruise and tour representative". That if you try to do it with activities or with the airfare dept they will tell you can't do it (apparently air is a 3rd dept, I didn't know that one!). From our experiences here even cruise and tour can be hit or miss so if they tell you they can't do it just write down their name (so if you magically get transferred to them again you'll know they can't help), say thanks and Hang Up Call Again. The next rep might be able to get it, or maybe the next after that! Don't give up, don't push to a supervisor, just keep trying. I've called twice about this and both times the first Cruise rep was able to help me.

This is how I understand it: I think your SO, as a Marriott Gold, would automatically become a Platinum in August but how long that lasts will depend on when status was achieved. If it happened from 2017 activity, it will expire end of Feb 2019. If it happened from 2018 activity, it will expire end of Feb 2020. Best case scenario here would be achieving Marriott Gold by 7/31/18 would get you Platinum until end of Feb 2020.

my interpretation is where you received the status. If your Marriott Gold is from a status match from SPG or Amex Plat, you will remain at gold.
If your Marriott Gold was earned through Marriott, then you get the new Platinum.

He got Gold from Marriott in March 2018. So he will have plat until 2020 that’s fantastic!

Why not all 3?? Just HUCA until they say yes, LOL!! :rotfl2:

I called around noon or so and spent 52 minutes playing SPG new rules pro/con verbal ping pong. But, I did get a 10k SPG points with no spend retention offer. So there's one DP for you if it helps.

Amex retention offers are attached to your account and can change periodically. The csr is just reading whatever offer is available to your account that comes up on screen. Factors that can influence retention offers include how much spend you put on the card in the past year, whether you’ve used up any of the card benefits, whether you got a retention offer last year (retention offers are once per 13 months), and I’m also guessing more broadly their retention rate for that product at the time and even time of year. Anecdotally, people have called before their AF posts, after their AF posts, and just before the AF is due to see if they get an offer, and if they don't like it HUCA later to see if they get a better offer.

I've called on a weekday early morning (Pacific Time) and got a sh*t offer on my Amex PRG; called about a week later on a weekday afternoon, same sh*t offer; called a week later on a weekend morning, same sh*t offer. About a month later, I saw numerous DPs of much better retention offers on the PRG. Most recently on my Plat, I called in on a Saturday early morning, and got an almost irresistible retention offer, but I also did put $25k on the card, double dipped the airline credits, used all my Uber credits, saved ~$200 on Amex Offers, and had my wife as an AU for another $175, so I’m guessing Amex really wanted me to pay another AF or they’d be losing money on my card.

Thanks for the info. The AF posted on April 24 so I think I have until May 24 to cancel the card and have the AF refunded -- is this correct?

Just went to look through my transactions. I didn’t have a fee post. I got the offer for 12k spend 120k points and the annual fee was waived for the first year.

Ahh...yes, a different offer! I remember that one now! I am curious about whether the upgrade will reset the free night also. In my case it would work better for my plan.

Is your 50k MR offer for $1k or $2k MSR?

50k MR/$2k MSR on the PRG can be pulled up using incognito and other tricks.

I would hold off.

The PRG will eventually count against 5/24 when Amex gets around to reporting it. Amex can take 1-2 statements (about 1-2 months) to report a new card, so Chase could potentially not see a new card to count against you until as late as July, but why risk it?

Targeted Amex offers usually have an expiration date that’ll give you some time to put off applying. Additionally, even after the offer expires, you can call Amex, mention the offer and ask for the same terms, and there are many DPs that say Amex will honor the expired offer. So keep the mailer/email just in case!

It's 2K. And expires 6/8/2018. I'm waiting and waiting but very impatiently!!!!!!!!

I have one and only one data point on that: last year when I got my free Cat 1-5 night, it was awarded to my Marriott account on the exact anniversary date of the card.

I'll take your DP and love it! If so that would make my night a cat 1-5 on Xmas day and I would have time to book the room I want before it changes on 1/19. Maybe. I don't know. I am finally totally confused by SPG/Marriott. I just want this to be over. I've been SPG for 20 years and it was always so civilized with great customer service. Now it's just not feeling that great and special.

Oh yeah, I should have been more clear on that. I just assumed Marriott Gold from Marriott and not matching status from the way she put it. For us that blows, since DH has AMEX Plat and SPG Gold. :sad2:

Wow, he reached 50 nights by end of March?? At that rate he'd be Platinum anyway!

He started a new job and they give the new hires automatic gold for a year.

The rep I talked to said it didn’t reset, but I really don’t believe that.

I seem to recall getting our night really really close to our anniversary date too. I remember checking every day for it. If it wasn't the exact day, then it was only a day or two later.

#3 in terms and conditions says 'please note that completing this product change may result in a change to the month you receive your annual free night........'

It's kind of ambiguous. As I said earlier, if it changed I wouldn't have a huge problem as I would be timing it to work with my SPG free nights which should come in January.

FICO fun that of course I had to send to all my doubting Thomas relatives who think that getting too many credit cards blows your credit score.

I know, right! But of course they are all thinking a lot of credit cards means up to your eyeballs in debt!

And, as we all know multiple card apps are just not for everyone.

Amex uses one which will only give me 847. Navy Federal gives me 850, and I was on one that is based on a FICO 9 versus Fico 8 and it gave me an 866. I like NF's best! Chase's (credit something or other?) dropped me to 830 after my last card. I'm waiting for it to bounce back up. Now they are saying too many cards opened (3 in 7 months). And in the same breath they are all saying not enough revolving balances! I pay as I go and I'm NOT going to pay interest.

I'll be interested to see what mine looks like after I pay off this student loan. I still have a good deal of student loans left, but I'm paying off the one that can't be forgiven through public service and I've had several friends tell me their scores dropped 20-40 points when they paid a loan off.
