I love credit cards so much! v6.0 - 2023 & 2024 (see first page for add'l details)

Not new to the group, but have my first "what card should I get" question!

I am 3/24 and have $20k-$30k of expenses coming up for sewer re-piping and remodeling in the 1-3 months.

old cards (5+ yrs ago)
Chase Disney Visa (the no AF version)
Chase United (the no AF version)
Discover (not sure which one)

the 3 since 2021
CapOne Venture X
CapOne SavorOne (for the 3% on groceries and dining, it's a good pairing w/ the VX)
AmEx Plat

I'm a single player and I currently have more credit than my annual income (I know Chase gets meh on that, but I could have them shift some around). I pay my balances in full every month and I do own my own business, so I'm not opposed to business cards.

Monthly card spend ~$3-4k
Fly out of MCO and yes, SW services here
Hotel - Marriott but am interested in Hyatt
Despite having the United card, I'm not married to their FF program (it's my oldest card and United made more sense when I lived in NJ)

Goal trip is Africa July 2024 and I'd love to fly business (will be looking at ANA via AmEX MR) and am open to on a whim trips if the price/miles is/are right.

My stash is on the lower side b/c I used a lot for my upcoming trips: Japan (this June) and Hawaii (this Sept).

AmEX MR ~90k
CapOne Points ~15k
United Miles ~15k
Marriott ~30k
little bits of Delta and AA miles (5k or less)

And I know I didn't follow the "Chase first for the 5/24 thing" and that's b/c I didn't know about it when I opened the more recent cards.

I'm thinking maybe
1. CSP (the 80k seems to be a good time to get into the Chase ecosystem)
2. AmEx Blue Business Plus (looks like I'd need 104k to fly roundtrip business on ANA for my Africa trip, so that's the logic there)

Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!

I'd look at a biz plat if it still has a good sign up bonus. Now's the time for the cards with high spends to meet. But I'd also make sure they take amex.

Just read IHG biz card bonus is 165k!!!! My previous fomo problem is solved!:cool1:
Ugh! I want both this card, and the Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select which I got a mailer for 80K. I won't be able to do both, decisions decisions. I have no immediately plan for either the hotel points or airline miles, but we stay at IHG properties and fly quite often so I would use them within the next year for something! What would you guys do? 165K IHG hotel points, or 80K AA miles... which is more valuable? LOL ( I realize this is probably subject to different opinions, and that's okay! I'm open to all.)

Thank you! Oh wow, I didn’t realize the plat biz did 1.5x on construction/hardware!

The first place that quoted me takes AmEx, getting another quote next week and will ask if they do!

It’s going to be a multi-stage, multi vendor process. I have to have the sewer line under the house replaced and since the bathroom will be torn up and my floors (concrete slab) and walls will have holes, I’m gonna do a bathroom reno, repaint, and new flooring. All stuff I wanted to do at some point, this just moved up my timeline.

On and a 3 night hotel stay during the sewer work bc they don’t want pets in the house while it’s being done (which I agree with). Cries in poor 🤣

Do you find value in keeping the biz plat with the personal plat? Or is there a good downgrade option?

I vote AA - they are much harder to get - IHG transfer from Chase, and are often on sale.

Well COSTCO dropped the ball here... AirTags still say they will arrive today but they have yet to ship them unless they plan to have the local store run them over!
Hopefully you get it…I ordered a patio umbrella looked like it was being shipped from the manufacturer, shipping label printed but then no movement…got my money back from Costco with no issues just frustrating

Agree that AA miles are harder to get. IHG can be bought for as low as 0.5 cent on sale. Plus with Chase velocity concerns, I wouldn't want to delay getting an Ink to get the IHG.

The Citi AA denial DPs concerns me (I hate wasted pulls). Not sure if getting the mailer increases your chances.

I’m now on my third train to get to Amsterdam. Would have been 4 but my DSIL drove me to the first train station about 15-20 minutes from their home. There is a train station 2 blocks from where they live but it was 36 degrees this morning so… I really enjoy train travel more than flying, though I am flying back from Amsterdam to Frankfurt since I will be at the airport the day of my departure returning on a bus from Keukenof gardens. I picked this train route since this had the least connections and the longest time In between transfers. My train into Mannheim was delayed and my train to Cologne was also delayed. I arrived in Mannheim during the morning commute rush hour and it was busier than NYC Times Square area during the Christmas holidays! I decided to leave my Away bigger carry on back at my DD’s and just carry the Afar backpack. As an older person with arthritis I can see the pros and cons to both. I did pack a lot (probably too much) in the backpack but some of it is food so that’s getting eaten up on the 6 1/2 hour journey. I’m stashing my backpack at the Amsterdam train station and have a 3 hour tour called Windmills, Clogs, and Dutch cheese which I booked through Capital One shopping portal thru Viator. Got it for a 14% savings. Then I’ll erase the charge since it codes as “other travel”. It’s also Kingsday where they celebrate the Kings birthday so it should be very festive! I’ll erase all of my train travel with my C1 points. I chose 2nd class and requested a seat assignment. Normally I sit wherever on regional trains but you really need a seat, though there are plenty of open seats if you want to seat hop on the ICE. (Long distance trains). A guy just came by selling cappuccinos for 4 euros. Beats walking to the dining car!
As a former Delta flight attendant, I was cracking up at your Biscoffs. Have a great trip!

You might want to consider the Chase Ink Preferred or Ink Premier. Both are 100K right now. A biz card would also not affect your 5/24 status and leave you with more options later. The AmEx Biz Plat is 120K, that might also be a good choice for you. The Blue Biz Plus is only 13K so I personally would not choose that over some of the other biz cards with a much higher SUB.

This is a great SUB for the CSP- for any card, really. Yes, you can support him and get 15k pts (I think). But I might encourage you to pause for a month or so. While this great offer won't last forever, he has also opened 3 Chase cards in about 6-7 months. And the usual recommended timing is 1 card every 3 months. I did sort of push velocity with Chase once and the rep was sort of saying in not so many words, hey you're going too fast here. We moved credit around and I was approved, but my guess is a lot of P2s don't wanna make that phone call.
Thanks for the advice. We can wait for another good bonus to come around then. He has my card saved in his Apple Pay so he can use it too.

There are no good downgrade options. Both the biz green and biz gold have annual fees, with little benefits. Plus if you downgraded without having had the card before, you lock yourself out of getting the SUB.

I would close it after a year unless there's a decent retention offer (always worth asking for Amex).

I think my kitchen fridge is dying again (the fridge is too cold and the freezer is too warm). Thank goodness I have a fridge in the garage. Costco has a counter depth LG french door refrigerator with ice in the door on sale for $1400 (I swear last year I couldn't find much under $2500). I currently have an lg fridge and washer/dryer so I'm happy with LG appliances. Anyway, I think I'm going to pull the trigger since the price is right. Hopefully I'll get another 10 years + out of this one:)

Thanks y’all! Was leaning towards AA also, but I have FOMO at the same time 😂 I guess if I get denied for the Citi AA (which may happen since I have more than they like for inquiries) then I can try for IHG biz.

The CSP has a good sign up bonus…the CIC or CIU bonuses are also be good if you can use URs

Site still says it will be delivered today but they just printed a label an hour ago for UPS overnight. So looks like it may get here tomorrow.

If anyone is looking for some cheap AirTag holders, found these at Walmart tonight... Store price was around $13 but they matched their website for me...

This is good to know. P2 just got approved for the in-branch CSP, so we'll be working on that MSR for the next 3 months, but this is good information. I'm thinking I'd still want to be 90 days from my last Chase card (business/personal) though, right?

@wdwpluto Just a note that the Ink Premier is essentially a cashback card. The points don't work like usual URs, they can't be moved to other cards or transferred to partners.
Is it the same for the plain Ink Business Cash Card? I just met my MSR today, and I am wondering if those points can transfer to a CSP (in the future, when I get one) or should I just cash them out and put the actual dollars into an account where they can earn interest?

yes, CIC (ink cash) and CIU (ink unlimited) can both transfer URs to a CSP.

The Ink Cash earns regular URs. You can transfer them to your future CSP or your P2's CSP if in the same household. They then become more flexible and valuable.

The Ink Premier is the only weird one that's different from CIU/CIC/CIP/CSP/CSR and all the Freedoms.
