When booking a Southwest flight is it better to add a companion right away or wait? I seem to remember that once you add a companion it makes it harder or impossible to check and possibly change the flight if the prices drop.

You are correct; you cannot change a flight when the companion is attached. I usually wait until closer to the travel date before adding unless seat availability looks iffy. You can always cancel the companion and make changes and re-add them. The taxfees cost is refunded back to the original payment method, so that makes it easier.
 
WWYD re: Hyatt retroactively seeking payment?
Just received an email regarding a stay which was completed at Hyatt Place Amsterdam, 45 days ago.

"Unfortunately, your arrival time was at 3:00 AM, and as we did not receive prior notice of your late check-in, our system automatically canceled your reservations. As a result, the World of Hyatt points you used to pay for your stay were refunded back to your account.
We kindly request that you settle the bill for your 4 rooms, which can no longer be paid with points. The total amount due is EUR 736.00"


I replied back that
1. I informed them prior that we would have a very late check-in and specifically requested they hold our rooms
2. When we arrived, they informed us that the system cancelled, but that it wasn't a problem and they got everything squared away.
3. I physically checked out at the front desk in the morning and was not informed of any balance outstanding.

Essentially, I've asked what they are going to do to rectify their team's mistakes, as the guest, I did everything I could be expected to do.

I don't have an issue either paying with the points I thought I'd paid with or paying what I think the points are worth, which is $390 USD, not the $822USD they are requesting. I don't believe I presented a cc at check-in, but my CSR is tied to the Hyatt reservation. I'm not trying to get anything for free, but don't think I should be expected to pay an arbitrary amount.

Do you have a Globalist concierge? If you do, I'd call them and let them sort it out.

If not, I would call Hyatt and see if they can help you before trying again with the hotel directly. It's so obvious that they messed up. It sounds like they just don't want to admit it.

This is a constant, nagging fear I have whenever I plan to check into a hotel late at night but sometimes a late night check in just cannot be avoided.

As long as there is a seat available you can add a companion correct? Even if you book Wanna Get Away and all that is left is Business Select?
 

This is weird. My priority pass was used for the only time in January, right before it expired. It came from P2 Connect card that had already been closed. It came with 4 entitlements. For some reason I opened the app last night and I see this. I have no cards with lounge access. What the heck?

Yes. Since prices fluctuate so much, I wait to add companion unless it's for a time of year I know isn't likely to come down in price or is likely to sell out (like around Thanksgiving or Christmas)

I'm a lowly no status Hyatt member.

I'm the sort of "I want this resolved now" type person. But that's a good suggestion regarding only working with Hyatt corporate on this. If I hear back from the hotel or they charge the card on file, I'll just reach out to Hyatt Consumer Affairs for resolution.

When you messaged the hotel through the app, did it stay in app? When I've done it in the US, it's a regular text message. Can't remember if I've tried internationally before.

I hope your reply message is enough to resolve it.

Not that anyone has asked for proof, but it's driving me nuts that I can't find my record of it. But I do recall it was really weird like that and it took awhile for them to respond back (like maybe a day or more).

Oooh, that's a good tidbit about checking text messages bc I wouldn't have thought of that.

You don't have any Amex cards with a set number of visits, like the Amex Hilton biz?

Yes that’s correct…I usually book the companion right a way since we fly ISP- MCO back and forth and I’ve seen flights book up with school groups…it’s easy for me to cancel the companion, rebook at the lower fare and add the companion back and better for my peace of mind 😊

for $500 hotel stay? I got it on all my cards (but rules are only use 1) and DH got it on one. We got 2 hotel bookings early next year so thinking about switching them to portal.

I always book direct because my biggest nightmare is arriving somewhere and they can't find the portal reservation. Offer is very tempting.

I’ve booked hotel short hotel stays through the Chase portal and never had an issue. Thanks for the heads up on the offer — I’ll definitely make use of it since I LOVE URs!
 
FYI, you can now transfer your points from Hawaiian to Alaska Airlines and vice versa. There's a TPG article you can google if you need help. My transfer from HA-AS immediately went through.

But also, there's some speculation the MR-HA-AS might be closed or at least paused.


I have seen that if your first and/or last name is only 2 letters the transfer is giving an error. Lots of dps on r/churning and award travel.

I found an offer for 10K at the top of my Chase account online. Had to spend $400 on a stay through the portal. It was with those offers such as $600 for opening a Chase checking, etc.

Right now, I have no $400 stays that work with the offer.

I have used the portal to book the Swan using cash and UR's. Plus a couple of Hyatt's, and everything worked out.
 
I have a skymiles flight booked on Delta. If I should need to cancel, I will get the points back. What if I upgrade to "Comfort" using cash? Will the flight still be refundable should I need to cancel?
I don't plan to cancel - but you never know.
 
Ok.... I'm trying to amend yet another mistake (life :sad2: ) So I had frozen (i'm pretty sure) p2's acct on all 3 bureaus... but I foolishly used an old phone # for verification that no longer exists, and "we" can't get back into accts to unfreeze- is there a way around this? If there's not I guess it's frozen forever....(I can't get p2 to call in) wwyd?
 
aaaand another question of the day :rotfl: checking for a friend, low/decent credit score,pretty low fixed income (retired) has one bank issued cc, think they'd qualify for a basic freedom? Looking for options that might work..... just wanted a basic 2nd cc, if cashback etc involved,even better.
