Instacart had some good offers for Petsmart and Petco on my account. I had $20 off $50 for both. I've been buying Instacart gift cards at Costco for $80 with my Executive membership (so getting about 23% off). If I can get either delivery or pick up cheaper than I can doing the in store shopping myself, I'm a happy camper!

I have a questions regarding making changes to a SW flight.

Our family has a flight out on Christmas Day to visit family. This is including my dd's boyfriend. We chose these flights because they were a lot cheaper than leaving the day after Christmas. Then, Southwest made changes to the flight and since her boyfriend would rather leave after Christmas, this was perfect. We could now change his flight for free.

Except now when I got make those changes, it is just showing me how many points I need to spend to change the flight. We didn't jump on it right away after they sent the email changing the flight. Is it too late? Trying to figure out what I am doing wrong. I will probably just pay the difference in points either way but it would be nice to do it for free!

We flew PE on
I guess there's no shortage of places I'd love to use Hilton points at, especially now with the newish SLH partnership, and fifth night free benefit. Here's some places I have coming up, per nt:

Hermitage Bay, Antigua (actually turns out to be all-inclusive)- 130k
Waldorf Astoria Costa Rica- 120k
Tabacon Costa Rica- ?
Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal- 120k

As for FB, I haven't flown PE, just economy and biz, so please report on your experience. And I think there's A LOT to be said for flying from your home airport. We've repositioned (ie not on the same airline itinerary) and at a minimum by plane, you need to allow a half a day. So then, you really start to wonder, is it worth it for the biz class experience? Sometimes it is, for sure. But sometimes I bet it isn't.

I'm super fortunate to be near Chicago O'hare and it's something I know I take for granted. It's 25 mins to Milwaukee airport or 60 to O'hare and when we have to go to O'hare, the kids call it "the faraway airport." 🤣
We flew premium economy (now affectionately referred to as "premium" by AF) in June both from IAH>CDG and FCO>IAH. I will say that the experience was defintely more elevated than economy. Bigger (cushier) seats, recline pitch was further back with a leg rest, service was great, and the food was better than regular economy. Not to mention the unlimited free champs... 😂. I've been looking at future AF flights and planning my trips around the "premium" seats in the future if I cannot book in biz.

Good to know! We've only been in Aer Lingus Biz and obviously I'd take that over Premium if given the option, the "lay flat" part of the seat was nice, but also very tight in the shoulder area (I'm 5'3") so it was kind of a "pick one position" and then wake up if you wanted to move at all. Again, not complaining, I'd love to have lay flat, but I felt like Premium Econ was worth a try (given Biz seats were way high for the entire month we want to travel (good redemptions before and after, but alas...).

So I booked PE via AF for the way over and again AF flights on the return (GVA-CDG-RDU), but booked economy via Virgin. VERY cheap pts.

For either of these, if I see a better deal between now and travel, I can cancel and rebook? I think I'm stuck with a small-ish fee for the cancellation, but I can decide about that if the situation presents itself? Or is there a way to change an existing reservation?

I've had this happen several times and I've found the best way to handle it is to call. Almost every time I've seen a difference in points, the rep will just swap the flights for 'free' and say something like, "the flight you want to change to requires x more points/dollars, but I'll just waive the difference." Also, I don't think there's a "too late," as I've made changes weeks (maybe even months) after being notified that SW changed the flight.

This is super helpful, thank you. I have done it later as well and not had an issue but thought I might be missing something. Especially since it usually works on the website. I guess I will call!

The AF on my Amex Biz Plat showed up and the payment is due 9/19. I've had the card for one year, but don't plan to keep it unless I get a good retention offer. To that point, how are people typically asking for retention offers, call or chat? And, just straight up asking for a retention offer or is there a better way to discuss the request?

FWIW, I've been with Amex for 25 years.

Just do chat and ask. It's easier to get to the point on chat to me. I'll say I understand the benefits and I just want to know if I have an offer to try and get past all that.

Doesn't matter how long you've been with amex. It's all a computer algorithm, you either have one or don't and it could change, could go away or you could not have one now but have one next week. Nothing you say will change it.

Dare I ask how you even get $100k dental bill? I'm upset my daughter's jaw surgery was $8k!
Ugh I have to get gum work and then literally a mouth of crowns- 26 to be exact 😩 No one has figured out why my teeth have been eroding since I was a kid so I always knew this was coming eventually and have been saving… the jaw surgery was the first step to get the teeth aligned, and luckily I stumbled into a clinical trial so that part was free!

Ok great! So they don’t actually ask questions about the app and the business- just that they’ll re-run it and he’ll here back later? I was thinking it would be something where they’d check it while he was on the phone with them. He’ll probably be ok to do that but wouldn’t want to answer any questions.
Correct, they’ll put you on hold and run your credit. No questions regarding the business or application.

Since you made the suggestion last time, I have purchased $100 Instacart gcs for $80, so 20% discount. Instacart Aldi prices are about 5-10% inflated over the store prices, but I get 5% back with Instacart+. So all told, I'm still saving probably 10-13% and not having to do the shopping, plus always working towards a MSR.

And the occasional offers are great.

Via chat

"I'm reviewing my business expenses and I don't plan to keep the card unless there is an incentive offer for me to keep it open."
They'll say blah blah blah
"I understand all of the benefits. I don't find the card value outweighs the annual fee. Are there any offers to keep the card open?"

I like to go into knowing what offer I would be willing to accept to keep it open. r/churning has data points on retention offers in the weekly data point thread. I typically search the comments

Welp, that was quick and easy - no offer available.

FYR, here's another Amex retention thread I found - https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ame...n-express-usa-retention-offers-2024-a-30.html
...and my "no offer" seems to be in line with a couple of recent posts for the same card.

Maybe call again? It’s been a while (first got the card when it was 100000 miles…..maybe two years ago?) but I was able to downgrade with no problem. Seems silly to lose you as a customer due to a policy change like that.
yeah im going to call back on my annual fee date i was like whaaaaaaat?

Has anyone ever gotten from the Chase Sapphire car rental insurance the exclusions / inclusions list of specific cars? I called like the benefit terms say to do, but the hold time is nuts they say "due to recent events".. not sure what recent events are impacting them. I was considering renting a Cadillac or Audi SUV and want to know if it would be covered with the Sapphire Preferred.

Finally got through and what a joke. They cannot tell you what is included or excluded. You have to call them with the exact model and make of car, which is super convenient since you don't know exactly what you are getting until you pickup your car and you really want to spend time calling them again while you are trying to proceed with your vacation.

Will the car rental be after 10/1? Were you able to check the new benefits? DoC has this "Auto rental coverage: will now include more vehicles, coverage up to $60,000 for eligible vehicles with an MSRP of $125,000 or less." Link

I have a CSR, so I wasn't able to verify. An e-mail went out and has a link to the new guide to benefits.

Ahh maybe the new benefits are the current recent events making the phone lines busy. We return the car on 09/30.

Anyone ever have luck extending a Hyatt free night award? Mine literally expires the day before I want to use it. I thought I’d see if anyone here had dps before calling.

No, they won't extend it, even for globalists. The best you can hope for is them giving you 10k points for the Cat 1-4 award or 20k points for the Cat 1-7 award.
