Has anyone done a roadtrip out west that included DL or does anyone have thoughts on this? I'm trying to think of what stops we'll make without overdoing it (especially with kids) and whether to start with DL or end with DL. DH thinks we should start with DL so we're not exhausted by the time we get there. I'm thinking it would be a great way to end the trip with no driving for a few days.
We did a family trip to Disneyland from Iowa in 2023. Quick run down…(if you want more detail conact me, I have our itinerary)…

1st day (Wed) drove to Glenwwod Springs, Colorado, stayed the night.

(Thurs) Did a rafting trp. Defiance rafting(recommend, awesome). Then drove to Kayenta, AZ.

(Friday) Drove an hour or so to Grand Canyon. Entered through the East Entrance..Desert View Watch tower. Was very nice. Not crowded and very cool views. Then Drove to visitor center ( too busy) did not enjoy it as much.. Late afternoon Drove to Williams Arizona. Very cool town...lot of NEON…last of Route 66.

(Sat) Drove to friends in Yuma, Arizona.

(Monday)(Tuesday)Disneyland…(Wed)Chica State park Beach…(Thurs)Disneyland…(Friday)Friday Down day at hotel.

(Saturday) Heading Home. Planned to stop at Boulder city Best western and planned to visit Hoover dam next day. But hotel pool was out of order. So we went ahead and hit the road to get near Zion Park Utah.

Found a hotel stayed the night but everyone was tired and ready to get home. So drove Home stopping when needed was too tired to try to fill more activities.

So I guess my recommendation is do activities and hiking first and Disney last. Tough to top Disney.

Remind me, does the CIP come w/ the same rental insurance as the CSR? I want to put my rental car spend on my new CIP. I do need to watch my balance and make sure I have space for my property taxes next week, LOL.

Hi all.
My 20yo CP CM is home for the weekend and has expressed interest in getting his first CC. He doesnt need miles or points or travel credits, he needs something with no AF that will help him build his credit. His money is in Citibank if that helps/matters.
Thanks
I had my daughter use the $100 offer I had on my Discover to get a DiscoverIT when she was 18. She got $100 and I got $100. It was win/win :)

I think I saw someone recently mention you have to have business need with the insurance. Ive been meaning to look into it more.

I paid $100 ahead on my electricity bill so I wouldn’t have to remember!
I'm waiting for my new CIU card and my electric bill will let me pay $600 ahead, but in one shot. Gas is only $12 right now and water comes next month so waiting for that. I'm hoping to finish the CIU in about a week so I can be done with it, and ready for something else if something I want comes along. I know there are quite a few categories but I didn't want to disturb any of those for the $15.

bad news- today I found out my upcoming dental bill will be $100,000+ 🙃

good news- there’s no fee to use a CC and they take everything. just got instant CIP approval 🎉 now to consider other cards- I’m thinking Altitude Reserve for the 3x mobile payment but have some research to do.

So took advantage of the Hilton 30% bonus from MR. I love when programs allow points pooling because it makes it so much easier when you have a P2.
Transferred P2 Amex points to Hilton
Created pool between P1 and P2
Transferred points from P2 to P1

Instantly there. Others have said it can take 24 hours, but mine was instant.

I had an October trip fall through (more on that if it sorts out and I rebook), so it's an opportunity for maybe an aspirational trip. We'll see, but I wanted to have points there in case.

Aside from 2 trips to Ireland using Aer Lingus/avios points, I'm very new to international travel (in general) and award bookings. But hearing FB *can* be a decent speculative transfer makes me feel better about me doing it last time there was a bonus (from UR I think). We just booked RDU-CDG-MUC in Prem Economy using some of those points. The redemption wasn't great, but given this was my first time dealing with FB and not being ready to pull the trigger until now (travel in May), I'm okay with the value -- ESPECIALLY because I don't have to position anywhere and am flying direct from my home airport.

As far as Hilton -- do you have a standard location you know you'll use the points for, or do you know based on experience you'll end up using them?
I guess there's no shortage of places I'd love to use Hilton points at, especially now with the newish SLH partnership, and fifth night free benefit. Here's some places I have coming up, per nt:

Hermitage Bay, Antigua (actually turns out to be all-inclusive)- 130k
Waldorf Astoria Costa Rica- 120k
Tabacon Costa Rica- ?
Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal- 120k

As for FB, I haven't flown PE, just economy and biz, so please report on your experience. And I think there's A LOT to be said for flying from your home airport. We've repositioned (ie not on the same airline itinerary) and at a minimum by plane, you need to allow a half a day. So then, you really start to wonder, is it worth it for the biz class experience? Sometimes it is, for sure. But sometimes I bet it isn't.

I'm super fortunate to be near Chicago O'hare and it's something I know I take for granted. It's 25 mins to Milwaukee airport or 60 to O'hare and when we have to go to O'hare, the kids call it "the faraway airport." 🤣

I'm thinking about using Alaska miles to book a refundable flight on Starlux. I know nothing about Starlux...if I need to cancel, will my miles go back to Alaska or will they be stuck with Starlux?

I'm not sure this trip will happen, but there are only two award seats left on the return leg so I figure I should jump on it- provided I'll get my miles back if I need to cancel!

Same as years past. It's good if you don't already have a cp or it's expiring, and you're flying with your companion in January or February. We made use of this offer it last year/earlier this year because cp expired end of December and we weren't going to earn another until early March.
can you earn this one, and then the "real" one also?

can you earn this one, and then the "real" one also?
Yeah, you can earn both. I had the promotional one Jan and Feb of this year. Met the MSR early March on a SW Biz card that then gave me the "real" CP then (last September there was a great SW Biz Priority card offer that was enough to earn a CP with just the one card, but had a high MSR and 9 months to meet it; it took us until March so the promotional CP was very useful).

ETA: note you can only have one companion, so if you happen to get a CP while you still have the promotional one active, I'm pretty sure you'd still only have one companion.

Dare I ask how you even get $100k dental bill? I'm upset my daughter's jaw surgery was $8k!

So I messed up and "helped" DH apply for a CIP the day before support dropped to 20k and forgot to unfreeze his credit report. Now it looks like it requires a call to get them to re-run the app. Is there anyway he can request this by secure message or even snail mail?- because even though he's totally cool with the cards, etc, he does not want to have to talk to someone on the phone, especially for a biz card. I figure we're out of luck. If so, when can he submit a new application?- 30 days?

On no, it's the easiest call. ... all he has to say is that he unfroze his credit report and to please re-run it.
But yes, he'll have to wait 30 days to re-apply.

just a data point I reached out to Barclay to downgrade the JetBlue plus card they said I have to apply for the other one guess ill close the card then.
Maybe call again? It’s been a while (first got the card when it was 100000 miles…..maybe two years ago?) but I was able to downgrade with no problem. Seems silly to lose you as a customer due to a policy change like that.

I have flown KLM Prem Econ for a return trip to U.S. and it was great. I strongly encourage you to keep checking on the rates between now and January. There is a very high chance you will see discounted rates for your flights around Oct or Nov. I monitored rates daily for months before I booked my two trips to Europe on FB (2022 and 2023). Each time I was able to snag a deeply discounted rate around the 5-7 month timeframe.

Ok great! So they don’t actually ask questions about the app and the business- just that they’ll re-run it and he’ll here back later? I was thinking it would be something where they’d check it while he was on the phone with them. He’ll probably be ok to do that but wouldn’t want to answer any questions.
