Absolutely! My kids filed making less than that, when they were still dependents. I think she has to claim with $5k.
Right, she has to file but can she claim herself as her own dependent?

AMEX is really trying to sell their increased MR offers on the Business Plat. I had a message to call one of their business advisors to discuss how to continue to make the most of our business relationship, I figured they finally had some type of retention offer. Nope, just wanted to remind me that I can get 5x MR in certain categories.

I have a BBP Amex to hold MRs on, do I need to do anything to transfer my MR points from my platinum before I close the account?

I think it asks if you have provided at least 6 months of support. My DD also graduated in May but I think we are claiming her. We haven't done taxes yet, so not totally sure. But she did live with us at least 6 months and we still pay her phone, car and car insurance.

Wait... some people have had the AF WAIVED? That's a whole different ball of wax because there is no loss even if we can't figure out the spend. I mean, nothing gained, either, but.... hmm. I don't suppose there is a way to know prior to applying?

There's no way to know for sure since it only shows up on the card member agreement after you're approved. Probably there'll be DPs coming out for this new batch. But no guarantees since it could change at any time. I also wonder if they have the ability to change the agreement after the fact. It's a risk, so you have to be okay with getting the AF.

So I'm confused on the Amex Biz Platinum emails. I got one. It seems like there will be an AF but when you apply the lifetime language isn't there even though it's in the email. Can anyone clarify? Because for some reason I'm convinced I need a fourth platinum card in my wallet.

I would think they would go by the terms in the application. You should get a pop-up saying you've had the card before if it is subject to NLL. That said, I'd still be more nervous about the SUB posting than a regular app. Because it's Amex.

It feels like tempting fate. But I also have a lot of spend and no new card. At some point soon I'm going to be dead to Amex.

FWIW: I would classify the Mummy as a significantly more thrilling coaster than space mountain. It is faster (and to me feels significantly faster - primarily due to its launch), and has a larger drop.

Good to know... I will that on my NO list!!

Right...her phone is on my plan, but so is my niece's whom I don't claim and my FIL whom I don't claim. She's also on my health insurance but I have a family plan so she doesn't cost extra. I don't pay for her food or housing and haven't since February when she got a refund of her housing payment from college and she's been living off that, odd jobs and savings (and couch surfing). I think this makes sense and she can get a stimulus payment, which honestly she should get because she cannot find a job in this economy!

I can do little coasters... I was going to skip Mummy because the description sounded like it was a big coaster. Not true? Looks like spiderman might be? Any others with big drops - I can't do those.
The Mummy is similar to Space Mountain and RnR at Disney. If you can do them, you’ll be fine on it.

Spider-Man, Jimmy Fallon and Transformers are very similar . They are all indoors and the ride moves throughout the building suspended.

No, Amex automatically merges all of your points (unlike Chase🤬). As long as you have an MR earning card (the BBP is perfect since it's no AF), you'll have your MRs.

I love the mummy--not a big coaster. Spiderman is more a motion ride--I hate those because they make me super nauseous.

The Hulk is a big coaster (I like the Hulk). The one where you pick your music is also a big coaster--I avoid that one at all costs--it knocks me around too much.
Agree!! I like coasters-even big coasters that scare me to death- but that one (where you pick your own music) is very rough - and NOT FUN for me. They would have to pay me (a lot) to ride that one again.

I missed the last Staples Fee Free Visa deal thanks to having to quarantine. But I've been sprung and I'm ready to spend.
When do they usually announce if they are having a deal? I can't find anything for the coming week, if they were doing it would we know already?
Thanks.

Nothing next week....from what I’ve seen the flyers come out on Thursdays and the info is posted on DOC, reddit etc soon after

DD1 graduated in May 2019 and DD2 in May 2020. Last year we claimed DD1 because she was still living at home and didn't find her "real" job until 2020, so her earnings were low. This year, DD2 has a good job, so I'll have to see how everything shakes out, but I have been thinking about the stimulus payment - I assume she won't get it if we claim her, so that might end up making the difference since she'll get that if she claims herself.
