Went to Walmart this morning and found everything I wanted/needed. The cold/flu meds however were picked clean, but thankfully we have a ton of options already in our house. My DH had surgery this morning, so he’s pretty much laid up for the next two weeks anyways. Couldn’t have come at a better time really, since the country is on the verge of shutting down anyways. I work from home, so I’ll try to have as little contact with the public during the next few weeks also since he’ll have a weakened immune system. We’re stocked up on toilet paper and non perishable foods. Walmart actually had everything I looked for, included lots of fresh produce. The store was much much busier than usual for a Friday morning at 10am. I didn’t get any bottled water, but I’m also not sure why I should. Will my city water be turned off?? We have a filter for our tap and drink that. I may have to go back out and get some bread later though. It seems that’s about all my DH can handle on his stomach right now. Everything else is making him nauseous.

Since my kids likely have no school for the next few weeks- looking forward advice from the homeschoolers.

My son is in 2nd grade, rather advanced at math, just took a standardized test and scored in the 98th percentile.

Anyone ever used khan academy classes for math or coding? Any suggestions for other sites- I’m not necessarily looking for free, but that’s a plus.

Reading is fine, he loves that. He’ll build Legos and we’ll make him do some writing. The school plans to do some online stuff, but he generally flies through school work, so we’ll likely need some extra to fill the day. My DH needs to attempt to work from home some.

My other kid is 2, so she just gets to color and play with toys. Lucky her.
For science I like mystery science. You can make a free account and get some of the lessons.

I'm supposed to have a Sam's pick up order today. I told DH we'll see how it goes, I'm planning on madness but I'd rather deal with madness for a pick up order than madness trying to get around the store. Beyond that if we want/need anything else or something we want is missing from our order, we'll hit the grocery store at 10pm and just get what we get 🤷‍♀️

you want madness - when I catch my breath I might post a Costco picture - after opening when they filled the store to capacity, a line the full length of the parking lot was still outside. I got in on the first cattle call and managed to fill my cart with most stuff I needed and then also bought paper towels because they are $4.50 off this week. Got my 2 cases of water - already got two the other day but some must go in our cars.
Kitty litter procured - but couldn't deal with Target to get dog food so I'll do a chewy order. We won't run out before next week anyway. So now I can barely push the cart - 80 pounds of water, 40 pounds of Fresh Start kitty litter, and 5 packs of various meats as I have nothing left.

So DD calls and adds stuff and other DD calls and adds stuff. $300 later I'm out of there, but not before I literally circle the store twice - once while collecting stuff and once in line. So this is where those 6 self checkouts were a blessing - if you were lucky enough to land there, the girl just grabbed the thing and scanned everything in the cart for us. It was fast once you made it there.

But, before Costco, a trip to CVS to get my script filled that is not fillable until Sunday but he did it anyway. Have to love the pharmacist there.

And after CVS but before Costco, a trip to Aldi for $55 - the little things like snacks and chips and hummus and small greek yoghurts and garlic bread the take and bake kind. And some veggies. Hilton Head has no Aldi's but they do have a huge Kroger but I don't want to deal with crazy while I'm gone.

I survived Costco but it wasn't pretty. Never seen anything like it. Really grateful that so far I've been able to find what we "need."

Also picked up Visa gift cards at OD.

I was at Sams before 9:00, so Plus members only and it was already very busy. I used Scan and Go so no lines for me, thank goodness, because they were long. My Target wasn't bad, had to run in and get dark chocolate, lol. Umm, its an emergency when we are out in this house. Priorities! I think I was the only person in Office Depot. I had to search for someone to check me out.

DH went to the store at 9 pm last night. He was sure that my pick up order today wouldn't have anything in it and he thought it would be quieter last night. It took him 2.5 hours. He said there was at least 200 carts in line and only two checkers for about an hour. They finally got some more checkers and it started to move some. I'm sure they were unprepared for such a run on the stores on a Thursday night.

Younger DD put an order in to Wegman's for pickup as it's near where she works. I got notice that I'm getting a slice of their carrot cake - yummmm!!! But I don't envy her that pickup line - it's adjacent to another Costco.

And is this the new 'young' thing? She will not go into a fast food place or a grocery store - it's either pickup or delivery.

Concerned about what this National Emergency may mean for air travel. Still haven't got DD back. Her flight is Sunday. I am very happy though that she went to visit a good friend for Spring Break and is not at a vacation destination where she would be stuck in a hotel.

Shoot I was hoping to go later tonight. Maybe that won’t be a good idea

I would pay. The parks should be open and there's no risk because you will get a refund or be able to change.
That’s how I’m leaning. I’m just worried it’ll turn into a hassle if we do decide to postpone and the parks are open. Whereas before the 30-day mark I can cancel cleanly. But I think Disney is trying to be fair right now. And I do want to go. So will most likely just pay. Thanks for the input. Sometimes just putting it in writing makes the choice more obvious.

For math you may also want to look at Beast Academy online if your son is advanced. It isn't free but you can pay for a month at a time. I believe Brave Writer was making some writing and language stuff free during this time.

I would but Dh wants to go with. He won’t be home until 3:30 or so.
My DH said that to me yesterday.....I could have picked up whatever supplies he wanted for his friends coming over tonight to play cards....but he insisted he had to look around the store to see what to serve :confused3
it was a madhouse at 6:30pm and he picked out the usual snacks, chips, pretzels, dip, beer etc.....at 3:30 you may be fine most are still working

Just adding a DP about travel cancellations/refunds. As expected, United/Lufthansa made a schedule change to the return flights from Glasgow for DD and me. I don't know why they didn't just cancel everything, but the schedule change showed a later flight from Glasgow to Frankfurt that was scheduled to arrive in Frankfurt 4 hours AFTER our second leg was supposed to depart Frankfurt for Denver. I tried to request a refund via the United website (I booked with United miles) but wasn't able to do that because it was an active reservation (that I also couldn't cancel online, SMH). I was surprised when I called United that they indicated a hold time of only 20 to 25 minutes. Luckily I could just continue to work with the call on hold on my cell, because it was an hour and 40 minutes before I got transferred to a rep. I think that's actually pretty good compared to some of the other airlines, and travel companies. Anyway, the rep was super nice and accommodating and cancelled the whole reservation, redeposited my miles with no fee (I already see them in my United account), and my taxes/fees will be refunded to my credit card. Not looking forward to needing to unravel the other flights once the schools inevitably cancel their Offer Holder Days, but nothing on that yet....

I’m not sure what Dh wants. I’ve already spent $200 this week on stuff. Now he wants to stock up even more. I guess most of the stocking up is because we don’t want to get stuck without our normal groceries. I guess we’ll see how shopping goes.

Today is actually our 4 year anniversary so I’m not sure I want to spend it in Walmart lol

yeah, good question! Homeschoolers will really shine in this situation,b/c they're accustomed to the home teaching/kids around 24/7 kind of life...(I really miss that) Mine used to like some Khan academy stuff here and there...there is so much content that I'm sure you will find plenty to keep him busy and learning in this time off of school. In addition there are a LOT of free online games etc for kids that age that teach that sort of thing.... google and you'll be amazed (former homeschool parent here)
