WDW Annual Passes will apparently be extended by the number of days the parks are closed:

Yes!! I just read this earlier and it works nicely for me as my pass is expiring Nov 6th, and I wanted to stretch my trip later for a few nights - move it away from Halloween and Nov 1. So now I have 2 extra weeks for my November trip which makes my 'new' early October trip a more plausible idea. Love this!

This is quite generous, though I confess I can't come up with a formula that offers less and offers any real fairness. But on any given day I'm sure only a small percentage of AP users are in the parks, and I also expect that for the length of this closure a substantial number were not going to be in the parks at all. This is just a bonus for them, and that's great -- really one of the few travel upside stories in this mess.

I was having some random thoughts before I actually got up this morning about our community.

For those of you in the medical community, first of all, my thank you for what you do everyday. It can't be easy being on the front lines so to speak, even if you haven't dealt with a covid 19 case. I am grateful for your expertise and if I am unlucky enough to be a victim of this virus, so glad that we have people that care enough to help.

For those of you who may have already contracted this virus and are struggling to get through it and back to a normal healthy life, may you get all the care and support you need. With the fear, I would guess that it is difficult to openly talk about this experience (unless you are a super star like Tom Hanks and wife) and get the normal support that a community provides. I (we) are thinking of you and want you well and healthy.

And for those of us sharing minor disappointments in life such as having to reschedule trips, missing sports teams play, it will all come full circle (okay.....here's where everyone breaks into song - The Circle of Life.) This too shall pass and hopefully we will all be stronger and kinder to each other after the experience.

Meanwhile, get the economy going by buying up those stocks but please let there be some groceries left on the shelves this morning!

Yes, THANK ALL THE HEALTHCARE WORKERS for what they are abut to undertake! Sounds like it will really stress the system.

Whether I had the virus or just a nasty cold, I've felt good for the last 2 days. Still trying to figure out if I should be tested before returning to work. And if so, how? I will have been off for 10 days sick leave (and except for one 8 hour work day, I was on leave for 3 weeks prior to that), and I don't want to drag this out for 14 days (which I'm basing on what I see on TV, not any official guidance).

Disney itself is waiving all change and cancellation fees through June 30th, so AA Vacations should allow change and cancellation through default. I'd keep trying to reach them, send email, twitter, whatever you can manage with your details. In their notes, Disney does say to contact your travel professional if you didn't book directly.

If AA tried to keep your reservation active it would look bad.

Thanks for the advice! I wasn’t sure whether to keep trying today or wait and see if they closed the resorts before we’re scheduled to check in Monday afternoon. So I called right when they opened this morning at 7 central time and at least now I’m in AA’s queue. They’re supposed to call me back in “more than 2 hours”.

So nicely said:) I can't imagine what healthcare workers are going through but am so appreciative of them.

Also, trying to be extra kind to cashiers. The stores are mobbed, people are stressed, and they are working hard for little pay.

I feel so bad for my niece right now. Her Christmas present from us was a trip to NYC in first class and front row center seats to see Beetlejuice on Broadway. Unfortunately, Broadways has cancelled all shows until April 12th. Our date was for the first weekend in April. The tickets are being refunded automatically which is nice. However, getting hold of the airlines is proving to be quite a challenge. Sigh ... We did promise to reschedule the trip for a later date after things get back to normal.

Gold card and BBP is the combo I like. Gold is 4 points on dining and groceries. The BBP is 2 points on everything. BBP has no AF so it's a solid keeper card.
Dh and I both have a BBP so I’ll have to look into a gold card. Thanks

Just hit Kroger. Got everything I needed. I figured they would be fairly stocked right when they opened. They did have TP. And on a happy note I stocked up on brown sugar cinnamon and s'mores poptarts.
We bought cinnamon pop tarts too! It’s been a long time since we’ve bought them. They may not last long in this house

We got our APs in June and I was sad because we likely won’t be able to go back until July. We want to wait until our son gets his shots. Well now that they extended it we may be able to go ahead and go at the beginning of July with him before having to renew the passes

This isn’t going to last forever.
as far as I can tell (early days) this all looks like two weeks, to clear any potential spreading since they believe that's the incubation period....at least that's what this seems to me.

Universal is closed now too. We had planned a trip for the end of the month and used UR to buy tickets. I’m still within the cancellation window for the resort, so I’ll get those back.
Do I have anyway of getting points back or extending the expiration date? I peeked at my trips home on the UR site and it doesn’t even say when the tickets expire.
I think from what I'm reading elsewhere that Uni is working with people to extend the use by dates on purchased tickets...I hope that holds true b/c my entire fam bought tix thru UR for April...if we can't use them then I'm counting on a date extension..... Uni has a cs # posted to call for assistance

I was on hold with Chase for 1 hour 45 minutes before I got through (called right at 7:00). Trying to cancel my flight from Male to Doha. The agent has put me on a very long hold -- she had to go to the Qatar website. It's frustrating -- if they had waived the change fee when I called a week ago this could have been avoided. Frustrating because Qatar Airlines doesn't have any travel restrictions in place for the Maldives.

Delta sent a mass email and basically said

“If you are not flying in the next 72 hours get off our website and stop calling us”
I didn't get that email. I have a flight tomorrow. I got in the call back line yesterday at 3:30 pm with an estimated wait time of 6 hours. Nothing yet. I had reached out on twitter too. Delayed responding back on twitter since I was in the cue. Went ahead this morning and responded back on twitter. We'll see.

Well...I feel like I need to just let a lot of thoughts out here...so feel free to skip this, or read it but here are my thoughts on today:
  • First off, what an amazing group we are here! So many people just supporting others decisions! Commiserating with people who had to cancel trips that were important to them. Providing advice when asked, not judging people... Just AMAZING!
  • Even more wonderful - NO POLITICS here!!! Look, you have your thoughts and I have mine but it does us no good to banter about it here in our community. And I LOVE LOVE LOVE that we can all be adults here and just continue to make this a great community and a haven from the abyss that my Facebook timeline is currently.
  • I understand that there's a "greater cause" at play here...but I feel like it's important that it's ok for people to be sad here about lost trips, or cancelled events, or whatever. Is it selfish...I guess, but I know it all comes from a good place, it's not like anybody is wishing that more people die, they're just sad! AND I don't think anybody should be vilified for being sad about something that is important to them. And I appreciate everybody who's sharing their sadness as this is affecting trips, families, etc. I saw a story where somebody thinks they just lost the last vacation they may ever take with their dad because he's in bad health. It tears me up to hear stuff like that!
  • A world without sports is just shocking to me. I know it's necessary...but wow...just WOW. I know that might not mean much to some people, but it's jarring for me to realize just how much sports fills my day. I basically spend my day reading about sports, Disney World and Credit Cards... Suddenly 2 of those won't exist.
  • I'm TIRED of all the COVID-19 emails... Look I get it Bed Bath...you clean the store. Ugh it's just ridiculous. The travel ones make sense since they seem to be communicating cancellation policies. But will the rest of you just shutup??? I mean I got one from Red Lobster... I eat there like twice a year... geez, lol!
  • I'm not remotely worried about the stock market. But I'm in my 30s and at least a decade away from even considering an early retirement (even at my rapid savings pace). Honestly, this is nothing but an opportunity to me...stocks are on sale! BUT I do feel for people who are much closer to retirement or in retirement and this will have a considerable affect on them. If that last statement doesn't describe you...then my advice would be to embrace the "stocks are on sale" mentality. And that JL Collins video I shared earlier is truly amazing... I've seriously listened to the whole thing twice in the past few weeks!
So there's some random SFF thoughts. I feel better having typed this. We take it one day at a time... I guess I'll continue to just focus at work. Things are going well on that front, I have some good deal flow suddenly and might be able to get back on track to coast the back half of the year. That would be amazing considering I have 4-5 trips planned between June and November!

Stay calm, stay positive...and continue supporting each other. You guys are all amazing and I truly enjoyed reading through the entire thread tonight while catching up!
We're in the planned to retire next year. I'm still hoping that can happen. We have our assets allocated properly. Stocks are a long term bucket. Big factor is the real estate market. We are planning on listing our condo in a few weeks. The sooner that sells the better. It's paid for, but it would be nice to get that in cash and safe.

You probably already know, but tickets are good through Dec 20 and after that may be applied towards another ticket at value when purchased. Hilton Head has a one bedroom open for a week/8 nights beginning Saturday night - looks like someone canceled. Not us, we are still going unless they pull the plug. 21 28 points for a one bedroom....
Yes, I just saw that. Dh wants to see if we can get a few nights at Vero before driving back north but first our points have to be returned to us lol

Getting ready to call dvc ugh

Companions are fairly easy. Just cancel the companion ticket, rebook, then readd the companion. I haven't added my companions yet. As long as there is a seat, you can add a companion so I just watch my flights and add them about 2 or so months out or at the point I feel I won't be repricing. Although, my flights never seem sell out of WGA fares so I guess I have that in my favor and that allows me to be chill in adding them. I have added them to my May flights, but not my July flights yet.

Well, this morning the price dropped again. Now it's a savings of almost 3k points. That's worth the trouble. I changed the flight. You're right. It was pretty easy.

Question about AF on a cc..... Barclay AA cc..... the AF just came due...(2/28) I'd like to not pay that, will canceling this card do anything negative to my (teeny tiny) stash of AA points? Or is there a card I can pc to without an AF? I don;t have much Barclay experience....

Yesterday FIL stopped at Walgreens for milk to avoid the grocery store craziness (of course there was still Walgreens craziness). People taking the Lysol/Clorox wipes/etc straight from the box the employee was trying to stock from. Limit was 2 for everything in demand like that. Lady in front of him gets to the register with 4 packs of toilet paper, they tell her the limit is 2. She turned to FIL and wanted him to buy 2 for her and that she would pay him back outside. He told her no and she called him an A hole! :rotfl: People be crazy!
