I'm exhausted. My job is Covid-19 nonstop now. I do healthcare PR for an older population so you can imagine it has been bonkers.

It feels like things *changed* today in terms of tone, messaging, seriousness of cancellations. We will see, but NY calling out the National Guard really seemed like a moment.

I don’t think I can remember the last time I paid under $2/gallon. It isn’t that cheap here but hopefully it gets there. I’ve seen it at $2.11

At my dd's school (IU), the dorms will remain open for those students who don't have anywhere to go. There will still be food service, just with adjusted schedules. Right now it's only for 2 weeks after next week's spring break, so labs/clinicals won't be affected that much. I can imagine the mess having 1/2 semester online would be, though.

I can’t imagine what it’ll be like for teaching majors who get their experience by going into the classrooms and teaching

These college closures seem so extreme to me. So, you close the dorms which would mean freshmen and a large percentage of international students will need to go somewhere else. At most of these schools, 75% of the students live off campus. So, the upper classmen stick around, party, etc. They won’t be isolated. My DD had spring break last week and is back at campus...for now. I guess I’m wondering if they will extend the semester? Online classes are one thing but what about the lab classes, clinical education etc? I’m not paying for an online education!

Looks like all the hullabaloo about a quarantine of New Rochelle is just prohibiting large gatherings. WHY did the call out the National Guard for that? Talk about an over reaction...

I was just talking to my DD about this. As you know she is a grad student and just started going into classrooms this week as part of one of her classes. Our son is in college too, living in the dorm.

It’s just basically going to be a half a semester delay in all their educations. Crazy. Guess they could cram it into summer?

Agree with you it’s crazy..and theatrics by the governor..plus the media is crazy every day ..xx number of more cases...we all should know they are going to increase before it gets better

DD's school is probably 80% on campus. They are mandatory dorms through Junior year. Though, I think the junior year was added when she started so I think it is possible for Juniors to be off campus this year. So to me they are already in a quarantine bubble. Except they are all who knows where this week while on break.

So far that is the date they have given. I think no one can know at this point if these schools will extend it or go back as stated. Haven't heard an update here yet.

You just can't trust people to do the right thing. Governors don't want this thing going through the dorms. But we either need to be ALL IN or OUT at this point. Quite frankly, I'd rather rip the bandaid off, be aggressive for about 14 days and try to end this. But I think we'll keep muddling through and Covid-19 will linger for awhile.

The CMS guidelines for nursing homes are really aggressive. Once you get a confirmed cased in your respective county you have to effectively lock down. That not only means no visitors. It also means no new admissions. That is financial armageddon. So I don't know how this is all going to shake down... but to go back to colleges, if kids have to go home or be online or whatever... shouldn't they get a break on tuition? It feels like things should be cheaper for students now.

Teaching is one of many majors that you have to actually do what you’re learning about. I’m not sure what they’ll end up doing

Right now I’m still planning on going to WDW this coming Sunday-Wednesday with my son. Feeling uncertain about it though. I’m most nervous about air travel. Thinking though that it might not work out to take my daughter to the beach the week after that. So far neither of my sons’ colleges have switched to online only classes, but I’m guessing they will soon. It shouldn’t be too hard for DS1 (studying IT), but DS2 is a musician. Not sure how they’ll manage course requirements for his music classes.

Politics aside (I have no idea what your governor does in general, nor what party he is in) yours seems to be being more proactive than mine (who is barely reactive at this point) and we also have a big issue here.
