I love credit cards so much! v3.0 (see first page for add'l details)

DH is going to apply for the Chase Hyatt tonight and can use someone's support link since it will be the first for both of us. How does using a DISer's support link work? Do you need an email to send the link to him? Should he sign up for a World of Hyatt account first or is one assigned once the credit card application is approved

Welcome! You'll need to get access to dischurners on reddit. The links are all there. Do you have an acct there? If not you'll need to create one and then one of the mods can help @Albort @SouthFayetteFan @Lain. Tagging since they have been busy lately.

If your dh doesn't already have a woh # signing up now doesn't help anything go quicker. The card can't be expedited. It'd be just as easy to do it all together so it doesn't get missed in the app and then he ends up with two. (I'm still trying to figure out how I ended up with two dl ff #s and I entered mine when I apped).

Hi all! I'm another long time lurker (that is kind of shy posting) but I want to work on getting over that and would like to join in this group. I had a different user name that I created and used in 2009/2010, prior to our DCL cruise to the Baltic, but that was tied to a work email that I no longer have access to so I had to create a new user name.
My DH (P2) will follow my direction when it comes to getting and using cc's, and has liked the perks of using them, but wants it as simple as possible for him. When I have tried to explain things in more detail his eyes start rolling. So it has (so far) all been on me to try to make the best decisions regarding maximizing the benefits of holding certain cards and I am no where near the expert like so many of you all are. I will appreciate any and all help and advice!

Here's some information following the format on page 1.

1) First off, we are going to want you to list ALL credit cards you were approved for in the last 24 months.
P1- 02/20 - CHASE Ink Preferred
P2- 01/20 - CHASE Ink Preferred

We also have:
Me (P1)
05/12 - CHASE Sapphire Preferred
02/15 - CHASE Marriott Personal
11/11 - CITI Costco
05/09 - CHASE Disney
07/11 - CHASE United
05/01- Nordstrom
09/17- Pottery Barn
11/13- Target
DH (P2)
11/16 - Chase Sapphire Reserve
09/14 - CHASE United
08/16 - CHASE Marriott Personal
05/18 - CHASE Marriott Biz

2) Secondly we'll want to know a little bit about you. Specifically - what you spend, and what you want to earn!
  • What amount of spend would you put on a card monthly (i.e. groceries, gas, insurance, cable, cell phone, other expenses)? $4,000-$6,000. Because DH is currently traveling every week for his job and the location he's now going to has changed (starting this week), it could be higher
  • Do you currently payoff your CCs in full every month or do you carry any balances/pay any interest? Pay in full and have excellent credit scores
  • What airport(s) do you typically fly out of? TYS is the closest to us but have driven to Nashville to fly out of BNA
  • Do you have a preference of Frequent Flyer program? Currently United. We do both have SWA accounts but haven't used them in years since moving here
  • Does SOUTHWEST Airline service your airport? Unfortunately, no. They do service BNA
  • Do you have a Hotel Rewards program preference? Currently Marriott but want to add Hyatt and Radisson
  • Do you currently have travel points or miles in any program? (if so, which programs and how much) Marriott-1,700,000, UR's approximately 250,000, United- approximately 25,000. Working on rebuilding our points and miles after our last minute trip to Germany and Austria last October.
  • What at your specific goals for churning credit cards? (i.e. Disney World Trip, Cruise, European Trip, Cash Back to pay-off a mortgage or student loans, etc. - you can have multiple goals too!) Travel! Both domestic and International
  • When do you plan to take these trips? (Keep in mind that it can be difficult to earn points/miles to cover imminent travel...it's best to plan far in advance, especially with regards to international travel) No plans currently other than DH's travel for his job. :sad1:
  • Who does your travel party consist of? (Spouse, Kids (& ages), other relatives/friends) Myself, DH and DD (16).
Please let me know if I missed anything.

Welcome!
Looks like you all already have a good handle on your churning. You should be able to gain access to the Reddit group to use a support link. DH and I both got Hyatt's in April. I used a DisChurner link to apply, as soon as I was approved my card appeared on my Chase login I was able to create a support link for DH.

If you want to travel international and your preferred airlines is United I would continue to build up your URs and Marriott points, since those easily transfer over to United. The CSP has become very popular recently, since it earns the most URs and it has support links.

Happy to see you come out of lurkerdom! You did such a nice job in completing the requested format for info to help us give you advice here. Looks like you are both sitting at 0/24 as far as Chase is concerned so that gives you so much room to get the cards you want.

Some thoughts for you - have DH max out his CSR's 5xURs at grocery stores/gas/home improvement by June 30 ($1500 spend limit for June). Then consider pc'ing it to a CF or CFU if the 3xUR travel category is not beneficial for him (although it sounds like he will be traveling more in the future so maybe the CSR is the best UR card for him). He is eligible for a new Sapphire SUB sometime this year or early 2021, depending on when he earned his bonus on the CSR in 2016/2017 - 48 months is the spacing you'll need for that, just keep that in mind. Then when that 48 mo clock has expired, he can get a CSP through your CSP support link for a combined 75K UR (60K him, 15K you, as long as the current SUBs don't change on the CSP). But he can't be holding a CSR when he does that, so you'll have to decide if the 3xUR travel/dining earning + 1.5X Chase travel portal multiplier are worth keeping over the lower earning structure and AF of the CSP.

I just got DH a Hyatt card last week, if you search for my posts on this thread recently you'll see I've posted a few information sharing posts. I would recommend signing him up for a WoH account first. Then while logged in that same website you'll see the WoH card advertised, and currently the signup offer includes 10 elite nights instead of the normal 5 elite nights. When I checked with a DISer's support link last week, it only showed the normal 5 elite night with application, so if you are interested in a jump start toward elite status then that's something to keep in mind.

Until June 30, the Hyatt card is also earning 3 elite nights per $5000 spend and 3x on grocery spending up to $1500 spend.

Your stash of Marriott points 😃! If you're looking at boosting your UA miles you could transfer some at 3:1 with a 5000 mile bonus if you do it in chunks of 20K Marriott points (thus getting 25,000 UA miles using 60,000 Marriott points). That's a back pocket stash of hidden UA miles if you need it. Do either of you have United status? You can transfer Marriott points to UA with a 10% bonus if you have UA Silver (or above) status (names have to match on the Marriott and UA accounts, but you can transfer Marriott points to your spouse up to 100K points a year). And travel packages took a big hit in 2018, but you have so many Marriott points that might be worth taking a second look at.

Just circling back to my earlier question to provide a DP that I was able to add a Chase card to Apple Pay on my iPhone without the physical card in hand. Today is 5 days post-approval, and Apple Pay wouldn't allow me to do it earlier (didn't check yesterday though).

Tagging @IFlossU in case you're also waiting for the card to arrive.

ETA: I'm unable to add it to Apple Watch because I need the CVV on the physical card.
Awesome! Thank you for remembering. I was able to add my card and already made a purchase through Apple Pay online 👍🏻 Hopeful I’ll get the physical card in the next few days

I think you can only upgrade a 3-park ticket to a 3-park pass. I don’t remember being given the option to upgrade my 3-park ticket to just a 2-park pass.

If it helps you decide they have currently lifted all AP blackouts for VB except for July.

Thanks, I was just trying to decide what our options to upgrade to an AP would be, I just wasn't sure if we went to VB and it was blacked out, if then we'd have to purchase the (much more expensive Preferred or Premier AP's) that weren't blacked out during that time. I didn't realize the blackout dates had been lifted (except for July) so I think that does help. Thanks!!!

Welcome! It is great to have someone from Tennessee join in! I grew up in Tennessee, but live in Georgia now. You did an great job detailing your plans and your Marriott stash is amazing! We primarily fly Delta and stay at Hilton, so I will leave the churning advice to others.

So to meet AMEX MSR I know that gift cards are usually frowned upon. If I just grab them with groceries does that report up to AMEX?

That's how I do it. :thumbsup2
I don't have any Amex (yet), but I have this noted from folks here:

Don’t buy GCs at Staples/OD/OM, Lowe’s, Marriott, & poss Home Depot to meet MSR for Amex (Grocery, BJs & Best Buy are safe)

So I guess I am finally going to update my Iphone 6. I was walking on some rocks in the middle of a creek and my phone decided to take a swim. Oops. Luckily DH was able to retrieve it out of the water because my case has some CCs and my DL. Will I be sorry if I just go for the new SE? My old one is almost 5 years old, so I don't need the newest and greatest, but I would like to know it will not be obsolete in a few years. Anyone have that one? I would love the 11Pro, but I don't know that I can justify that price.
I bought the SE pre-release bc my old one was dying. It's great. It's essentially an 8 (so a case from an 8 will work) but with upgraded camera & A13 chip. It has Touch ID not Face ID like the 11. I'm not one to have the latest expensive tech and would never spend $1000 or more for a phone. $400 is a great price and I'm very happy with the SE.

I do not have an account on reddit and I'm not that familiar with it but have looked at a few times. I will create an account.
Thanks for letting me know that we don't need to create a WOH account prior to opening the Chase cc. I'm planning on opening an account for him tonght.

If I could turn to my experts for advice, please.

I think Japan in November is looking less and less likely- not because my flights are going to be canceled by the airline (which is what I was "hoping" for to get a refund), but because we won't be able to get into the country (or we will, but not without a lengthy quarantine).

Does anyone know whether ANA will refund my (VS) miles under this circumstance (if Japan is still requiring the 14 day quarantine)? I mean, it's miles plus roughly $500 in surcharges so... I'd sort of like to not lose that, but I'm not sure how any of that works.

Thanks everyone. I've been sort of low for awhile and trying to remember what needs to be canceled is, like for all of you, not helping.

:welcome: It's so nice to see someone else looking at Radisson. The Radisson Rewards Visa is a great to card to have. It is one of my favorite sock drawer cards due to the annual 40k card anniversary points. DH and I each have one and find the two AFs we pay for the 80k points have served us well. We generally only use the points when traveling in Europe for free hotels stays since Radisson Blu properties are fairly common across the pond. The card will give you Gold status which allows you early check in and late check out as well as a room upgrade. We've had the card for years and maybe purchase something nominal once a year for activity. The sign up bonus is pretty good too on the Radisson Signature Visa. $2500 spend in 3 months will get you 85k points which would actually wind up 97,500 points since you get 5x on the dollar.

Welcome! You've done well for yourself! I don't see any American Express cards on your list? That may be something you want to get into eventually. Especially since now Chase business cards are hard to get. First one you might want to try for is the personal Platinum card. There's an elusive 100k Membership Rewards (MR) offer that seems to be easier to pull up if you've never had any Amex cards. MRs can be transferred to many airline and hotel partners. Or cashed out for 1.25 cents per point if you also have a Schwab brokerage and a Amex Schwab Platinum card. They have several Hilton cards if you ever want to get into Hilton points. Also Bonvoy (Marriott) cards, but you'd have to check the complicated rules on what you can get when you've also had Chase Bonvoy cards.

Caveat with Amex cards is you need to keep putting spend on their cards after meeting the MSR or you may get the dreaded pop-up when you go apply for a new cards saying you're not eligible for the bonus.

Some reports of getting in and booking....

I tried to get in after posting here at almost 8. Gave it a rest and went back on around 9:30am. Was about to give up and it let me in. I had tried the dining trick and it did not work for me so went back to the pink castle. Castle got me logged in and then into orbit and after about 20 minutes got to blank white page. Let that sit a few minutes and I was in.

I was booking for Oct 31 through Nov 7. Booked 3 days and it told me limit reached and call this number.

I'm a passholder but also have other tickets in MDE which of course I'm not planning to use. Don't need to give Disney any more headaches to fix.

Tried the number which doesn't even ring. Well, I've got 3 days so not unhappy. I actually went back and canceled and did 3 days with day off in between just in case, but I kept Halloween at Magic Kingdom as I haven't done the holiday in several years, so hope they at least decorate and let me do Haunted Mansion.

But I was just going to try the call again and my phone launched a system update, so I'll wait again. Good thing I'm retired.
In case you are not following the reservation thread the AP glitch for multiple reservations has been fixed. I was able to get all my days with a few refreshes in between.
