Do any of you have a pool and know how to drain some water out of it? Ours is pretty close to the top and I want to drain some before the storms this weekend

Well I thought maybe the Amazon Biz cards from American Express didn’t count towards the five card maximum because I got approved for it and I had 6 cards back in December. Anyway I was wrong I tried to get a 6th card yesterday and I got a call from Amex today. They told me about the 5 card limit and asked if I would want to cancel one to get the Hilton card. I did and was approved!

Has anyone who did a BB&T bank bonus closed their account? @striker1064 I feel like you did. Do you have to call or can I do it online with a message?

Yep, just transfer everything out so it's $0, and send an SM to close. They had it done by the next day and I couldn't even log in anymore (which was slightly weird, haha). One of the easiest to deal with.

Just checked the Disney website and Tuesday to Friday next week for dd and I would be just shy of $1,700.00 (at YC garden view with park hoppers). Looks like most of the resorts have availability.

I won't be able to book anything until I know if dd's school will be open, which will likely be sometime on Monday.

If you aren't AP for AP rates, then check Priceline for those dates. Those are similar dates to mine (tues-sat) and the PL pricing was about the same as AP rates, just a couple buck higher. However, if you go thru RMN you can get another 8% off, thus beating the AP rate in most cases. I believe YC was hanging at $302 for my dates on PL and it was $296 on AP rate.

Thanks! Hopefully that's not the case on logging in for me since my mortgage is with them  Though I guess if they want to close it and I can stop paying, that's fine too :rotfl2:

My dad used to do it w/ a garden hose. I'm sure if you google there are directions.

ETA:

Step 1
Attach one end of the hose to the faucet. Place the other end of the hose in the pool, completely submerged.
Step 2
Turn on the faucet to allow a full stream of water -- rather than a trickle -- to travel through the hose. Turn off the water 30 seconds or so after you notice water exiting the submerged end of the hose, indicating the hose is full.

Step 3
Remove the hose from the faucet quickly and kink the hose near the end previously attached to the faucet. The kink helps keep the water in the hose, much like placing your thumb over one end of a straw while the straw contains liquid.
Step 4
Carry the kinked end of the hose to the drainage location, holding the hose end higher than the level of the water in the pool as you walk. Release the kink in the hose and set the hose end down once you reach the designated drainage area.

That was FL resident pricing. It was $334.00 / night + tax at YC, but I chose the wood view, which was a bit higher than the base rate. I didn't realize I could get 8% back on RMN. Thanks for the suggestion!

You may be able to 'backwash' the water out of the pool. Our pool has an auto valve that drains water when it gets to a certain level. Check with a pool company before you do this though -- I asked our pool guy before Irma and he recommended not draining water, though I can't recall the reason.

your pool pump should have a backwash function that reverses the water out of the pool and down the drain.
Look for a switch on the pool pump(there should be 4 directions on it). turn it to that selection, turn the pool pump on. Watch the pool water drain to your desire but dont go too far below your skimmer.

good point about the draining part... Would suggest only doing so then when it actually goes OVER rather than dumping the pool water now.

Okay thanks I’ll call our pool company. They’re a cleaning company but I’m sure they would know

Okay thanks. I read online that it said you may want to drain 1-2 feet before a storm so that’s why I was asking. Our water is about 4-6 inches from the top of the pool which seems high to me and likely to overflow

Okay I’m getting nervous now for Dorian. They’re saying it could be a hurricane when it hits Florida and it looks like right now it’s coming straight for us. Since we have cats I don’t think we could just pick up and leave at the last second. We would need somewhere to stay that would allow cats

Best Friends at Disney boards cats and they let you visit. Plus you can have video of the room they are in.

what if for some miracle reason, its blue skies tomorrow, then u gotta fill it back up 1-2 feet... :P
i did this at one point when it rained like crazy, i backwashed it. As long as it doesnt hit the very top you should be fine. I accidently let the water run too long but the water just evaporated within a week back down to its normal levels... just one day during the storm, run out, start the pump, run back in and watch it drain until u feel its good enough.

pool balancing is an art, its quite fun to balance and throw chemicals in... the filter cleaning though... that one sucks to do. takes me a good 2 hours to disassemble, clean and insert back in.

Omg that’s adorable lol. That actually was something it said to do: playing crying baby sounds. It also said to set up the nursery as early as possible so the cats can get their scent on things. Then put tin foil or double sided tape on the crib so they won’t try getting in

We've always had cats or dogs when we've had babies. I never knew it was a thing to prepare them for it 🤷 Our current cat is a super good cat. He has been trained to stay out of my room (and my babies all sleep in my room for a long time). He didn't seem the least bit bothered by our last baby. I think they know, I swear my animals always act differently when I'm expecting. Maybe they instinctually understand it?

I haven't personally done it yet, but based on what others have reported your referral points should post on the PC'ed card. Cancelling it would be risky. I think you're safe to PC CIP1 to either CIU or CIC prior to 9/1 to get the fee back. THEN lower it's CL (I believe you need $5,000 to PC) and then apply for your own CIP2 when you see the CLs lowered in your Chase account online.

I am going to refer for a CSP and PC it before the referral URs posts so I get the AF back.

Thanks! I will try this and see how it goes.

Luckily we don’t have to worry about the chemicals or cleaning the filter because we pay for a weekly pool person. We just didn’t want to fool with that right after we moved. We may eventually try it ourselves though

I need to cry here for a minute. Totally OT, but our large freezer just went out. Everything is completely thawed and mostly warm. I think it's a total loss. We just stocked up a few weeks ago, and it is a TON of food lost. I called my DH just bawling and he's bringing home a new freezer tonight he said. So $ for a new freezer and $ for all new groceries is not what I had planned this week. I really don't have time for this right now either.

Ok, crying over. Time to suck it up and deal I guess.

once u kinda understand it, its pretty easy. it also helps to find a local Leslie Pools or local pool store. they test and teach u. Save yourself that $80 a month(or however much u pay)...
