I grabbed your response just because it introduces a question I've been meaning to ask the hive mind here - and I certainly don't mean this in a snarky or condescending way, at all, ever - I'm genuinely trying to understand where the confusion about AU cards eligibility come in. It gets asked a lot and so are there any issuers anywhere that make a distinction that if you have a card in your name (not an account!) that it negates the bonus or benefits or whatnot? I can understand people asking as a belt and suspenders approach if that's the case.

Since an authorized user is not the same as a joint account holder, when terms say you can't have had the card before, as an authorized user you are eligible because you don't have that card - someone else does and has simply authorized you to use their card (i.e. spend their money). In fact, I really don't remember giving any more information other than hubby's name when I first got him a couple AU cards so he could spend my money. I know that's not the case any more for most issuers, but if all they had was a name, there's no way they could tie that to any specific individual definitively.

Now a joint account holder is different, if the card is in both your names, then you each have equal responsibility for that account and it's debts. Thus if you had a joint account and now are trying for an individual account, I could see that negating the bonus terms. But does anyone even issue joint account cards anymore? I know there's some grandfathered ones out there but I haven't seen a credit application where I could jointly apply in forever.

So am I missing something in the equation? Or is it just a misunderstanding from the joint account holder days, where people assume AU is the same as having a joint account now? I admit some stuff just doesn't even enter the radar so I'd welcome enlightenment :)

If I had not been following the thread before we really started with getting cards I would have asked the same question. Just would have assumed since I have a card/he has a card we jointly have the cards.

This actually brings me to a question. We will be getting a car soon, and unfortunately we are not mr moneybags like some people :rotfl2:so we will have to get a loan. We have always just put both our names on loans. Now I am wondering if just one of us should get it in case it does negatively affect getting more cards in the near future. Anyone?

This time I got to deal with the crushing defeat of 2-month out ADRs. No 'Ohana. (Please note correct spelling.)

But, I found an opening for us at the IllumiNations dinner package & ignored a call from our wedding planner to book it before it disappeared :rotfl2:Don't tell DF.
Have you tried touring plans dot com Reservation finder?

Decided to go with DW's CIP#2 and hold off on the train. App just submitted. Not instantly approved. Calling the status line instantly transfers to a rep. Bad sign? Going to just sit tight and let it process.
I have found that if I mistype my SSN, or if I accidentally enter my SSN when calling about my wife's application, that they don't give me a chance to correct my mistake. Instead they instantly transfer to a rep. You may want to call again and make sure you are entering the correct SSN.

Applied for Barclay’s AA Aviator biz card on March 10. Got an email that they needed more info and would reach out. I applied kind of on a whim because we got a bill for $999 for DD’s recent oral surgery and they don’t take Amex, and the MSR on the card I applied for is $1K. Turns out that we don’t have to pay that amount because insurance is pending, so I wasn’t too concerned with whether I got the card or not. Finally got a call today from Barclay’s saying they had a couple of questions. Called back and provided some confirming info on my identity, explained the nature of my “business,” confirmed biz revenue as stated on app and whether what I had listed for household income was my personal income or household (confirmed it was personal since DH is a SAHD) and answered question about what I did for my main job and how many years I have been in practice. 5 minutes tops for these questions. Rep went away and came back and asked if I’d be willing to move some of the CL from my personal card to the biz card. I said fine, and he suggested splitting the stupidly high $40k CL they had given me on the personal in half. I said that worked for me and he said “approved.” Pretty painless all in all. I thought about blowing off the call, but glad I decided to call back. Sadly, it shouldn’t be too hard to meet that $1k MSR even if we don’t have to pay the oral surgeon...

The Sheraton Waikiki next to the Royal Hawaiian Center? We stayed there over the New Year. The location (along with the Royal Hawaiian) is hard to beat. But the walls and ceilings were thin, and the rooms looked to be in need of a refresh. My DW’s cousin is in management at the Sheraton and told us they’re starting a $100 million renovation over the next two years, so that may impact some people’s plans to stay there. Marriott also raised the Sheraton Waikiki to a Cat. 7 recently, making it more expensive to stay there on points.

Agree with the above, the rooms did not impress, also lots of hustle and bustle in the lobby. I was there just over a year ago, and we preferred the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort and Spa, although it is across the street from the beach. Marriott made this a Cat 6, which I don't think it is worth, but Marriott really has devalued across the board, unfortunately.

Correct. The rooms are a lot to be desired, but isn’t that the entirety of Waikiki? Everything was built in the 60s and seems to be eternally moldy. But yes, the location and proximity to the ocean. The views are unmatched.

That said, I have a special place in my heart for the Royal Hawaiian (Westin I believe) as it’s the one escape in Waikiki and also cool to think that hotel was basically it. “Paved paradise and put up a parking lot”.

DH and I just put the loan in one of our names. I just paid off my loan this month and DH’s will be completed in Aug.

And I guess we are see things differently. When my savings is earning more than the loan interest rate, I much prefer to let my money sit and grow.

Ok well @Natgridenergy and everybody else who cares...

It DOES NOT appear like you can add tickets and dining to a hotel only with AA miles. AA Vacations requires a car or flight. The car HAS to match the dates of your stay. I also don't believe the Hotel Only side will let you add to it.

@trstno1 - any chance you could do a little more reconnaissance for us on this? I know you have an existing AA hotel stay. Can you call some support number and see if you can add dining or tickets? I also wonder what would happen if you called Disney and tried to add dining - they'd probably say your reservation is tied to a travel agent I guess...

EDIT: You could also do some sort of STRANGE throwaway room strategy here but I honestly don't think it's worth the potential hassles. You could book the cheapest Kissimmee hotel and rental car for 1 night and add Disney tickets. It says they issue tickets 35 days in advance so you'd actually need to book this room for a month or prior to your actual expected stay to take advantage of 60 day FP on the dates of your actual stay. But now you're throwing away 10,000 or more AA Miles and who knows what happens when you never checkin at the hotel OR pickup your rental car. You could pay a little more miles and do the throwaway room at a Disney resort - but again this is all sounding way too complicated.
This took me a few days, but I made a few different calls, and I think there is no way to add the dining plan to a room only reservation booked with AA miles. I called Disney, and they informed me that I must go through the agent who booked the reservation (Aadvantage) to add the dining plan. I called AA twice, and both times I was connected to reps who did not seem to know a lot about WDW. It seemed like they were simply reading details from the confirmation letter I had already received. Regardless, they offered no option to add the dining plan regardless of whether I wanted to pay by cash or miles.

I also asked the AA reps about purchasing park tickets with miles. They could only direct me to the link in my confirmation letter to purchase tickets, a link that simply takes you to Disney's website.

The good news is, I dont have to stress over that coworkers Hawaiian vacation.

The bad news is, that's the price of some package they booked through someone.

Hopefully they have a good time (but it still hurts me... just switching to mon to mon for the trip drops the flights $250pp...

This makes it worse! That means there's someone out there pushing that property when there are better ones. Even after we lost our commission and all we got were incentives from certain properties we didn't push those at all. I can only think that was the reasoning or occupancy is already high with all those added SW flights. Hopefully they have a good time and enjoy themselves.

We're getting closer to the 60 day mark for our first trip with Magicbands and FP+ and I'm totally overwhelmed at the moment. We have a split stay, first at the Doubletree DS and then POR. When I go into MDE and look at ordering Magicbands, it only shows the onsite date. We can use those for the first part of our trip too, right? I can't find where in the forums info on Magicbands is. Would that be attractions or resorts? TIA!

Whenever we buy a car..it’s only registered to one of us and the loan is in one name....mortgages, bank accounts we have joint...but the cars only have one name on them

OK.....so another hiccup. Applied for CSP......called status line. 2 weeks. BUT, this needs to approve today for MDD, right? Before I get a chance to call for that, Chase calls with a fraud alert. P2 calls in (legit, I did NOT need my deep voice) and answers their questions, but rep does NOT give approval. Wait a couple hours, call the status line. STILL says its in review. Should I call the US number and speak to another rep and ASK for approval?

You get the free magic bands when staying at a Disney resort so MDE is correct....I’m assuming you have linked park tickets to the magic bands....so you can use them to enter the parks for the first part of the trip. Once you are at POR you can also use them to charge things to the room

Thank you! I knew we wouldn't be able to charge to our room, but I was hoping to be able to use them for tickets and fastpasses. How far in advance will they mail them?

2 weeks..is good...you just don’t want it to go to 7-10 days ...hopefully your approved soon

I was afraid that was bad news. I screwed up last night and did DH's CIP app while his credit was still frozen. He unblocked it after, but the status line says he will be notified in writing within 7-10 days. Learned my lesson - no credit card apps after 11 PM!

@Andysol, not churning related, but I'm too curious about these 2 properties to not ask... Have you ever stayed at the Halekulani or the Four Seasons (I know it's not in Waikiki) and if you would you be willing to share your thoughts?

That question goes for anyone else on this thread as well. Just dreaming about Hawaii. :cloud9:
