Churning first for me...Barclays AAdvantage Aviator Business denial  I knew it was bound to happen eventually, but didn't think it would be this soon. Applied Monday, had four inquiries at that point, but had also just applied and been approved for the CIC on the previous Friday, so that showed up on Tuesday, the same day as the status line showed denial. Got the letter today. Denied, due to excessive credit applications. So, I had 5 inquiries since June 15, 2018. The letter said nothing about recon, and it's not really something I want to do anyway. So now to figure out what is next. I had plans for the Arrival + in a few months, but now I can't even apply for 120 days, and even if I don't apply for anything until then I will still have four inquiries in the past year, and don't know if I want to waste the pull for another denial. Later this month DH will have 3 inquiries in the past year, but I am thinking about a second CIP for him. So, no GrAAvy train for us right now. :sad1:

I got denied from Barclays a month or so ago. Never got denied from a cc before. I do have the Barclays JetBlue card that I use all the time and have had it for 11 mos. and pay it off on time every month, not sure if that anything to do with it.

For those who don't care about poorly flipped houses, so they can easily skip this

This whole thing just makes me so angry and rant-y, not only because DH and I would prefer doing the work/updates ourselves, but also for the people who run into problems down the line because the people who flipped their house did a terrible job. My cousin and his wife are like the poster children for this so far.

Yikes, those are bad.

For those who aren’t watching news this morning, another 737-MAX went down. Link. Ethiopian Airlines, 6 minutes after takeoff, no survivors. FlightRadar only has the first 3 mins of data and it showed unstable vertical ascent, pilots requested to turn around.

Saw that in the news. This is looking bad for Boeing. Could be bad for Southwest too, since they've ordered 170 of these planes and will be flying them to Hawaii.

Yay! Thanks so much for DP. I’ll keep fingers crossed mine show up.

On the housing subject ... The Bay Area is almost another world now. We are in the process of downsizing and decided to rent an apartment until things cool down, although a NYT article the other day suggested it was only going to get worse with four major IPO’s slated for this year. Uber, Lyft, Pinterest and AIrbnb will be flooding the Bay Area with more young multimillionaires. But I’ve lived here my whole life and I just can’t stomach buying a 2 bedroom condo (1970s condos) in Oakland for $1.2+. That is not a typo The median home price here is well over $1 million now. Crazy sauce.

I saw that article, too. Ugh, just what we need. It's already insane over here. :sad2:

I know this was answered but for any newbies, you don;t want to take advantage of every transfer bonus that comes along. You may wind up with orphaned points that will expire. If Amex MR is offering a transfer bonus to a hotel or airline you don't want to jump on it just because. Make sure the transfer bonus fits into your goals and plans.

Yeah, we knew we might need to fly, but weren't sure. The grant DD applied for was competitive enough that we didn't move the miles, and missed on the discounts, but no regrets. We found decent flights even without the discount. I'd rather not move points if I don't need to.

Also the plane flying into NY that had severe turbulence that injured 30 people. These reports don't sit well with this nervous flyer. Especially as DD18 was in the air yesterday flying to Cali for Spring Break and Ethiopian Air is who I almost bought as DD21s return ticket. It was the cheapest and quickest flight, but it had only a 30 minute connection in Ethiopia and I was worried something would go wrong and she would end up stuck in Ethiopia. Though I realize it could happen anywhere and to any airline, just makes me more nervous.

The timing of this stinks. DD is flying to Europe today with her friends. 4 flights, some on airlines I'm not thrilled with. I was not consulted with the choices and apparently have to deal with the anxiety fallout this week. :sad2: Quite worried, TBH.

Here's the gap along the back of the counter. It's tile all the way up so I don't know what they can do, other than maybe a big line of caulking to fill it. It's because the old counter was actually to big, so the people CUT THE DRYWALL OUT. That is not right guys!! And they even cut a couple studs to force it to fit! :furious:

Cabinet doesn't line up with soffet. This is an old one, so the new cabinet here doesn't stick out in front of the one to the right, they line up now. But that means that not only does the cabinet still not line up under the soffet, the soffet now sticks out like 8in past the top of the cabinet.

And their baseboard is all crazy. This would drive me completely nuts, personally, but they've never brought it up and I'm not mentioning since it's just a cosmetic thing. But their house has A LOT of stairs, like kind of an excessive amount. And the baseboards don't match, like most is just rectangular (honestly I didn't know you could buy it like that, I kind of thought the flippers just painted their own boards and stuck them on there...) but there is some that has the rounded top. And it's not cut to the stairs (I've only seen it run at an angle up the stairs, or just no baseboard). But most of all it's not done all the same on all the stairs! And since there are a lot of stairs and they are close together, I think it makes it even more noticeable.

My husband is a total perfectionist, and crappy house building/finishing/repairing/updating makes him crazy!!!! He would never pay anyone do to any of our work, because no one lives up to his high standards LOL.

So, I really want this 80k Delta Biz plat. I am maxed out at 5 branded cards, but my Delta Gold has been open for a year as of this weekend. Fee has not posted yet though, my statement looks to close around the 21st. Do I wait it out and then close and apply for the new? Do I apply for the new now, knowing I won't get it, but when I call them, ask if I can close the Gold to make room (this happened with my BBP and it worked out)? I could really use that $100 Delta credit like ASAP, so I'm itchy. And I have taxes to pay, they can wait until 4/15 obviously, and I can just pay for what I need to with Delta now and save a $100 gift card for a later time if necessary.

Wow, that's really really badly done.

My son was in Taiwan, flying into Taipei, a few days after the plane crash there a few years ago. I rationalized that the safest time to fly is probably after a crash, when (hopefully) everyone is being 110% careful.

I signed up for the AMEX Business bonvoy on Friday and got approved instantly. My credit score went down around 8 points because of it (saying 816 now on Experian) BUT it is showing up on my "new amount of credit", went from good to fair and says it doesn't come off my credit history until 2021. I thought the card didn't go against my 5/24? What am I missing. Seems like a negative to me now. Maybe I should of applied for the CIP, the one I really wanted but I figured I would wait til next month when my COP drops from my report.

I really think something else must be happening with the amount of credit, because I don't think that a new line of credit would get reported to the agencies that quickly (even for personal accounts). The business application will show as an inquiry (or what people call a "hard pull") and that can cause your credit score to decease slightly, but I don't think anyone here would worry about an 8 point drop. Although I am not an expert on these topics so someone else might correct me.

Super easy. I did 3 $25 bill pay pushes to my Amex account, waited 75 days, and got the bonus. No problem at all.

The nice thing is, BB&T's interface was really nice (to me anyway). Almost made me consider switching to them.

Thanks!! Our mortgage is through BB&T and the interface is pretty good. I’ll go ahead and sign DH and I up.

More excitement. Super pumped to see Sam's Club offering discount Disney tickets. Of course I can't get my login to work today to actually price tickets but I'm interested to compare how Sam's pricing does against discounted gift cards. (This news was on People and some other sites Friday too).

https://www.wdwinfo.com/news-storie...and-and-walt-disney-world-theme-park-tickets/

There is a thread here on budget board about it. https://www.disboards.com/threads/s...o-disney-and-universal.3738750/#post-60357484

I think people are saying it is not that great of a discount. Bummer because they did sell tickets a few years ago through their travel department that ended and it was a better deal than Undercover Tourists at that time.

Since it says 2021, which is 2 years from now, I think that is only referring to an inquiry, which is the only thing from AmEx that would have shown up this quickly. Same thing would have happened with the CIP. Inquiries for biz cards still happen on your personal credit report, regardless of issuer, but AmEx biz cards aren't reported as an account to your personal CR and thus don't count towards 5/24. AmEx also doesn't report cards immediately to your report, it has always been tied to around statement closing (and for most not until a 2nd statement) so I think you're fine and it'll bounce back.

that airline was notoriously bad record. i think half the pilots failed some certification test they did afterwards... on one accident, they turned off the wrong engine... :|

This new crash however, *A airline, top in Africa... a whole different breed.

Yeah. It makes me upset for them, because I know they know zero about home repairs really, and neither do their parents. I think it was a bad choice all around :( It's a tri level, and originally it looks like the kitchen was open to the family room in the back, and it had a formal dining room. But the previous owners turned the garage into a new family room, and put a detached garage in. So it looks like over the 3 weeks between buying and relisting, the flippers painted the cabinets white, added the countertop/backsplash, put new carpet in the new family room (old garage) and put laminate in the old family room area to make an eat-in kitchen (maybe the original owners already used it like that but the laminate is new) but left the old tile in the kitchen (the line were the floor changes is at probably a 15 degree angle so the flooring didn't have to get cut to go around corners - it runs from corner of cabinet to corner of a wall), and painted all of the house a neutral beige without filling in the holes. And they listed it for, drum roll please... $66k more than they paid!!!!!!!!!!

That bathrooms weren't even touched, or the carpet on the other two levels. The half bath and the hall bath upstairs must have been done at some point, they had mid-90s looking vanities but were fine, not outdated looking, in good shape, just not as 'modern'. The vanity in the master bedroom looks original to 1977 when the house was built. My cousin and his wife got one of those small vanities at Lowe's to put in the half bath to update a bit, their personal choice - but seriously, for what they paid after the 'flip' they should NOT have to go spend a few hundred on an updated vanity. They still paid $55k more than the flippers bought the house for.

I have my checking account with CO right now and like them but really get nothing for having it. Chase is offering a $600 bonus if you open both a checking and savings account in our area. I think I have to keep $15K in them combined. I usually don't like checking account bonuses because they are taxed but it would probably be around $400 after taxes, so I am thinking of going for it. My question, I am going to apply for the CIP in May. Would this help my chances of getting the cc, if I bank with Chase?
