He can read much harder stuff than he prefers. He is capable of reading stuff like Harry Potter but thinks it’s too scary. Instead he prefers Wimpy Kid, Captain Underpants and Fart Squad. Much to my chagrin, he hates reading.

What about the Eragon series? Would that be too intense for him? I remember my son loving those books in middle school. It brings back memories . . . I recall reading the Cornelia Funke books to the kids when they were young . . . the Ink Heart series and Thief Lord. Those books were terrific. I enjoyed them just as much as the kids!

Has he tried the 13 Story Treehouse series? My DD9 (who also likes Wimpy Kid, etc) read a couple of those and liked them. They're sort of Wimpy Kid-esque but not terrible. I feel your pain in having a reluctant reader. My DD *seems* to be growing more as a reader in the last couple months. They started doing book clubs in her classroom, so I suggested that she & I do a book club together at home and she went for it. I think she liked the idea of me reading "her" books. Thankfully she chose a really great book that one of her friends recommended (The War That Saved My Life) for our first book, and now we're reading the sequel. They're historical fiction set in England during WWII, which is exactly what I loved when I was 9-10 years old. I'm sure interests are different with a boy, but don't give up hope!
I’ll have to look for that series. He’s such a pain, so picky. I was/still am a voracious reader. As a kid I would ride my bike to the library a couple times a week, bringing back as many books as I could balance on my handlebars each time. Even now, I read a couple books a week. He is getting better, but still rarely reads for pleasure, just for the required 30 minutes a day.

Eragon sounds too dark, the main character loses his family which is DSs worst fear. I thought he would like Kingdom Keepers because it’s Disney but we made through the first one and he refused to read any more.

I think it depends what your library allows. I just checked my Hoopla account again and we only get 3 at our library. Each one must be different.
Wow that sucks! I was complaining that overdrive “only” allowed me toa take 5 books at time and keep 10 on hold!

Hi, my name is Joe and since the “incident” I always double check which credit card I should use with my wife. Labeling does not work for me because I don’t read them.

I am sure they would have a lot of common situations to talk about!:rotfl::rotfl2:
Me, categorizing things in YNAB: you bought my valentines candy at Walgreens and didnt use my Freedom even tho I labeled it Walgreens? You fiend!

I honestly don't even use Hoopla much since I can use the Bridges site instead now. I just found out today my library is about to start charging $2 every time you get a book from another library. They do this thing called interlibrary loans where they get it from another library for you to read. I use this A TON, but I'm not paying $2 when I can sometimes buy the book for not much more than that.

Now I just label cards and if I notice he is habitually using the wrong card I mention it. But I still have these thoughts about the one off purchases
My dh is actually getting to be so well-trained. He knows when the CF quarters end and comes to me with his wallet all dumped out and asks me to re-label for any changes. I love that! He either loves me and what this hobby provides OR he's scared to death of my wrath for using the wrong card :p

I was so excited to read your opinion of the show. I was a little concerned that the West End version would not hold up to the OBC. We are patiently waiting to buy tickets for August & the way they release them month by month is killing me. Not all complaining about the fact that the "good seats" cost £250 or less in London as opposed to whatever they are in NY now. I don't ever want to admit to anyone what we paid a few years ago.

I’m in the same boat! We paid a ton for our NY seats. Good luck with the tickets. We will be back in June and I’ll be going for last minute tickets

Hello, my name is Jason. Every time I tell my wife about something I bought, her first question is always, 'which card did you use to pay'? She doesn't really seem interested in much else in life. She used to be so fun and carefree...
WOAH...the churning life IS fun and carefree! Earning 1% back...now that life is torture! ;)

One thing I dont like is I can't seem to return ebooks early. I read quickly.

I found my cat mystery series I used to read and reread all the old ones plus read the new ones i hadn't read yet but now the two newest are checked out. One on the only one and I think will come up tomorrow. But the other I'm 4th and I'm like, but that's two months....

Like @liloca said I can return right away with overdrive. The only thing I've gotten lately has been cookbooks though. I look through and save anything I want to try and then return the book less than 30 min after I checked it out.

Maybe I don’t know how to use the system, but we have Hoopla and I don’t find it east to search or locate things he is interested in.

Actually it’s 5, but even that’s not much. I’ll have to look and see if they have any other programs

I search on the library site and it will tell me the different formats it's in, regular book, ebook, large print etc, there's no special searching required. I would see if your library offers anything else or again see if you can get a card through another system that has a better ebook system/more books on it. It'd require a trip into the library for the new card but if it gives him more to read that could be worth it.

I have 7 library books in my to read pile, one I'm working on and 3 to return. I may or may not get more tomorrow :) Our library system has shelves in each library with 'choice reads' that someone within the system has chosen to recommend. These books are the best because they are in the system as 'choice reads' and not their title which means you can't put a hold on the book. For all the library users that means I can renew it and for us it's twice so I can get a book for three 28 day periods which normally gives me plenty of time to read them. Then the series books I want I put on hold as soon as their in the system and don't mind waiting. Sometimes I find them on the choice reads shelf and get them before the one I have on hold, which is a bit annoying as nice as it is.

I used to spend too much on books and then moved to used bookstores but there aren't any good ones around here. My budget likes it more and I get to read way more books. It also helps that we have a good system here, the one in NC wasn't very good. But I used the used bookstore like one because you could use 100% credit. I still prefer real books though I've used my mom's ereader before.

I try not to buy too many books, but Thrift Books is a pretty awesome online used book store. I think if you spend like $10 you get free shipping?
