Tax Update...It looks like KeyBank will pay for more complicated versions of TaxAct if you agree to share some info with them (probably means I'll get a call about "invest with us" or something like that). I already have an account with them so I may just take advantage of that for free. Tax Act feels a lot like the Turbo Tax interface.

AND Tax Act came to within $2 of my spreadsheet as well (rounding errors) so I can also say they did my taxes correctly :) Once I have the last few forms, I probably will give them my business this year. (And yes, I just entered all my tax info 3 times in the past 10 hours...twice last night on TurboTax and once this morning on TaxAct - I'm a glutton for punishment LOL)

I've always used tax act and have been able to do them through swagbucks for some cash back as well. With my rental I end up paying for the fed and the state because I can't figure out the state one without it so I pay tax act to pay NC state income tax. It's annoying but I also want to make sure it's done correctly. At least WA doesn't have state income tax. Also, tax act is easy enough for my mom to do with a little help, meaning she watches the refund go up and down and when the number gets HUGE she asks for help and I see she put the decimal point in the wrong spot. I at least shouldn't owe as much on the rental this year due to a change in renters and it being empty a couple months along with the clean up/paint and replacing the microwave.

I was looking at my MR accounts on Amex and I am not seeing any place to generate a support link for myself/spouse. Are they hiding them somewhere, or am I blind? Or are they missing?

On desktop, it's on the home page, below the box for balance and above account activity. But if you don't see it, it could be missing like my new BGR. I used the direct link on DoC and that worked:

https://www.doctorofcredit.com/new-...ferrals-program-now-crosses-over-to-any-card/

On my iPad I see...the refer a friend....at the bottom of my home page
Good grief, how did I miss that. I do see it there now!
Also, logging back in to find it, DH FINALLY got the 10k offer for pay over time!! I got it months ago and have been logging in daily hoping he would get it, and 2nd login today, and it was there!

I transferred balances to NFCU on their 0%'s and got it done. For this reason I will always keep my NF cards and over 50K in available credit with them. It's like a safety net.

And, I learned a lot about dealing with home remodels, contractors, county permits and not having the whole side of my house exposed in winter. Cold!

I love Navy in this regard. $75k in credit and every year they offer 0% on their products, even existing accounts.

What the french, toast? I work for 3 days and come back to a new thread already on page 34! Lol. I guess I should get to reading :surfweb:

I don't have anything exciting to say except for maybe a little venting. Here goes:
Is anyone else the travel and credit card guru with their coworkers/family? I feel like it is a blessing and a curse. From my estimations most people are relatively clueless to travel planning except maybe the handful locations they frequent. Like they don't even know WDW has 4 parks most of the time. Or that it isn't the same as Universal! Every few days I work I get someone that wants me to put together a 'quote' of how much it is going to cost their family to go to WDW/DL/Hawaii/Florida. I spend all this time putting together something for them, education about the parks, etc. and then when they see the price they go :earseek: and ask how I go so often which leads to a mini-lesson in churning and me recommending maybe one or two cards to offset the travel expenses and then NOTHIN'. They don't go. They just sort of fizzle out. UGH! It is so annoying! I guess this is probably the life of a TA--I am just not paid for it :rotfl:. I did have one co-worker that texted me and was like "we just booked a 7 night Expedia package at (insert some obscure hotel) WDW for $8500. Is that a good price?" :scared1: . I made her cancel immediately, we changed her travel dates to leave two days earlier meaning she got a few extra days, switched her to the Swolphin, and still ended up saving her like $1500. She came back and was like 'Ya. That was terrible. We are not theme park people.". She was thankful I saved her money but was very clear they would not be doing that again.

As an aside I met my MSR on my Cap1 Savor ($500!) and DH's SW Biz (60k)....with the assistance of just a couple of MO's:scratchin.

Aaaaaaand I leave for WDW in 3 days for a glorious kid-free trip with our besties, staying at BWV/BLT. Strolling all leisurely to Epcot, DHS, and MK (with no little's to have hangry meltdowns and complain that it's too much walking) and signing our hearts out at Jellyrolls. I don't think I have been this excited about a trip in quite some time. :hyper:

That is all.

I’ve done tax hawk the last two years after tax act hiked their prices. I think the federal is free and the state is pretty cheap. I’d highly recommend it if anyone is looking for an alternative.
Thanks. I'll have to look into this. I had switched to tax act a few years ago after turbo tax's prices kept going up with their bait and switches, but now tax act has been increasing as well.

Hi! First time poster to this board. My husband and I are hoping to get some advice on what credit card(s) to pursue. Currently we have a Wells Fargo Cash Back Visa Signature card that we've had forever (1% cash back), Disney Chase Visa (the lower tier one without the annual fee), and a JCP card we just signed up for this past December. I know we could do so much better, but every time I look into which cards to switch to, I get overwhelmed!

  • We spend about $4k a month on average and pay off our balance every month.
  • We fly out of DFW or DAL for Southwest.
  • American Airlines or Southwest is preferred. DFW is a major hub for American and most flights are nonstop. Southwest has better perks but nonstop flights are a bit more limited.
  • I have Marriott hotel points (about 100k) from their loyalty program.
  • Our goals for a credit card would either be flight rewards or cash back to lower our travel costs. We are relatively new DVC members and would love to start flying to Disney. In the past, we have driven from Dallas to WDW (17 hours! :faint:) to save money, but I'm hoping that we still come out even by maximizing credit card rewards. We plan to travel twice a year.
  • Our travel party is me, my husband, and three children, ages 7, 5, and 1 (turning 2 in September).
Thank you!

I'm the 'guru'.....(laughable) but my fave is when I get a random text saying what card should I get? no other info.... or even better, what card should my aunt get? I have nooooo idea... I don;t go into lots of detail until the person asking provides detailed info so I can help them with advice. and I don;t do vacation quotes, ever. I answer questions if they come to me with 'is this a good hotel/price/location?" type of questions tho. and I will refer them to places to research what they need.

Help please. Can I apply for a Chase business card at 5/24 or do I have to be below 5/24?

Thanks!!

Hi! I'm fairly new to the board myself and the people here have been so amazing!

$4k/month in organic spending is great for churning and hitting those MSRs! If JCP was the only card you've signed up for in the last 24 months, meaning you're at 1/24, then you may want to think about hitting up some Chase cards first. Since you fly SW often, you should look into doing the SW biz + SW personal cards method to get a companion pass for the remainder of this year and next. Or try for the CSP, which will get you started with Chase UR's that can be transferred to many hotel and airline programs (SW included). Another popular suggestion is going for one of the Chase business cards (CIP mainly, which has one of the highest bonus offers right now). You have so many options when you just start out.

Welcome here and to DVC...there are a bunch of us on this thread

Since your below 5/24...you and your DH could each open various Chase cards. If your ok with opening business cards...and pretty much anything selling on eBay, tutoring etc...can qualify as a business....the CIP bonus of 80,000 URs after spending $5,000 the first 3 months is the highest bonus....you could open one...then refer Your husband ...you get 20k URs...for the referral.....after you both do the MSR...you have 190k URs...which can be used to book hotels, flights etc
If you want to stick to personal cards you could each open a CSP or CSR...both cards bonus URs are 50,000 after a 4k MSR...
If you want to fly SW you could also open SW cards for the RR points and you could go for a CP by opening a personal and business SW card
Lots of options for better earning cards

My new strategy is bundling our deductions. I'm trying to alternate years where we take the standard deduction and then itemize. And put as much of our itemized expenses into the "itemized" year by being strategic with charitable contributions and when we pay property taxes :D It's so fun to find a way to minimize my tax liability HAHA
I used to bundle DH's student loan payments to minimize tax payments, so you're not alone! I looked into doing the same thing you are, but I can't shift enough to get above the standard deduction, even in alternate years.

At first I figured, well, at least I don't have to spend time entering my charitable contributions. But a good chunk of it will be replaced by entering 1099s from all my bank bonuses, lol.

I try to avoid telling people. I’m happy to help someone with their plans for WDW if they’ve already booked. Some friends are going for the first time with their five year old son in April, so I told them I’m more than happy to recommend the best rides for them and food.

On credit cards, I keep it super vague. One coworker knows that I get a lot of credit cards, and she occasionally asks me for a recommendation. I actually sent her a link for the CFU this morning. All my family knows is that some of my credit cards give me “points” and that we’re going to WDW this year on “points.”

To my moms credit, she actually does pretty well with the cash back deals on her BoA card and using Ibotta and other cash back apps. I told her about the Sams Club deal and she’s going to sign up for that. She also did the Fidelity sign up last year. I might try to get her to get a Chase card soon. The CFU or CF would be great for her since she doesn’t travel but would love the cash back.

From my estimations most people are relatively clueless to travel planning except maybe the handful locations they frequent.

On the train at Disneyland yesterday and a lady to her family l was like they have a show at 9pm Fanta... fanta.. something idk it’s like Fantasia with Mickey. This is at 8:30 and we are by Main Street. She pulls out her phone and shows her mom it’s showing it’s on the water. She was so conufused but they decided to get off and head over there. I can’t imagine she would be able to see the show walking up at 8:45 for a 9pm show.

Idk if I should say something in those situations. I just gave SO a look and kept quiet, these are the same people that go to Disney and say that it’s awful.

I really enjoy doing my taxes believe it or not. I used to do them by paper forms and then online fillable forms completely by hand (even in years that we had Self-Employment income and the like). Given my strange and analytical nature, enjoying reading tax laws probably doesn't surprise you guys, LOL

I know I don't post a lot. But just had to say I like doing our taxes too! Both self employed. Had a temp job working in the accounting department at a bank when I was young. Thought it was so fun! Everyone thinks I'm weird when I say I like doing them.
