WWYD DH and I will both be 4/24 end of month. Both in good positions to apply for CIP #2. I have 2 chase biz, he has one. Would you play it safe and just apply him since I house all URs? Or apply me since I’ve had more mileage with Chase? Or throw caution to the wind and both apply???
I think it would really depend on your recent card applications and pacing with Chase. I'd hesitate to say go for both - other than the risk that this loophole gets closed there's really no other good reason to do that. You could easily get 1, work on the MSR, then get the other. Again though, depending on your recent cards AND your future strategy, there could be a reason to go for both if the strategy supports that.

I decided to call Barclay recon about my aa biz app that was declined. I haven't received the letter yet, but I was in a bad mood anyway so I figured why not call. Come to find out they didn't even pull my credit. They denied me based on my current card usage. I have an old arrival that I barely use and a jet blue biz that I used a bunch for that masterpass/plastiq promo a few months back, but not much since.

My response to @kidsfirsttrip sparked a random "Tip" if you will...We could add this to my "shower thoughts" series although it didn't come to me in the shower this time, lol!

When to apply for a card should depend on 3 factors: (1) Your ability to meet the MSR in the required time, (2) Your recent history of cards, (3) Your future strategy of cards (and really the point of this comment surrounds #3)
  • Regarding #1: We generally accept that applying for a card when you KNOW you can't hit the MSR is not a great idea (unless you have a plan to MS, bank fund, or pre-pay/gift card your way to the MSR)
  • Regarding #2: We all know general velocity limits, try to space out Chase cards, put 2-3 months between applications, etc...
  • However, point #3 also has some merit... When you apply for THIS card will also affect when you can safely apply for your NEXT card. If your velocity/pacing says you can apply for the card now and you're good on point 1...then going for it NOW will also start your clock on your next card.
  • A good example of this is my next AA BIZ card. I can apply for one on Monday next week. I still have $4,500 in MSR so I do not NEED to apply for the card that soon. HOWEVER, I can meet all the MSR (so pt 1 = good); I am eligible for the card since it's been 90 days at that point (so pt 2 = good); So I should in theory go for this card NOW to start my next 90 day clock ticking.
I know that not everybody operates in this game with a strategy, but if you want to "always be MSRing" then a long term strategy can certainly help! Just be willing to adapt if a rule changes or a better card offer comes along :)

I have an old arrival that I barely use and a jet blue biz that I used a bunch for that masterpass/plastiq promo a few months back, but not much since. So, I guess AE isn't the only one looking at how you use their cards and my citi biz app had nothing to do with being declined. The csr asked if I wanted reconsideration and for them to pull my credit. He also asked if I had opened any other cards in the past 12 months because that would factor into the decision. I avoided that question and declined the credit pull. Maybe I should "spend" my arrival points and get rid of that card.
Meanwhile...I got Arrival+ and Cash Forward cards back in November 2016, I never spend a $ beyond the MSR, I downgraded the Arrival+ to the no AF version at the 12 month mark and I closed both cards in May 2018. On paper, you are the BETTER customer here, and meanwhile, I'm the one approved for the card! Seems a little crazy - Don't just cancel that Arrival due to my experience here, but I think cancelling warrants consideration!

With utilities that charge a flat fee it makes sense to pay a large amount. I pay water, electric & gas in 1-2 payments each year, thus only paying the $4.50 or $1.95 CC charge once (vs. paying it monthly if I did it that way).
:)

Agree with this esp for ones that charge a fee but then for me I have to remember to check the last statement basically keep track of the credits. :magnify: Making sure I'm properly credited...

If you can meet the 10k MSR at the same time I’d go for both....with reducing CLs if needed and I’m assuming since you were 5/24 your over 3 months from your last Chase card...
But lol probably shouldn’t assume
Haha yes! I’m 12/18 he’s 9/18. I closed both SW personals (after af posted) which freed up so credit and I reduced even more on the biz cards too and a bunch of DHs personals. Sadly 10k in 3 months is very doable for us!!

I also think you should consider closing that old Arrival. If you aren't gonna put spend on it (and why should you??), then it appears it counts against you in Barclay's eyes. Get rid of it. If you need to hang onto the JB biz, I'd put some small but regular spend on it and then hit Barclay up again in 120 days. Sorry for your denial :(

As much as I do not like the barclay biz site, the site that is giving me so much grief with each new card is citi! So far, that is the worst part of the grAAvy train but they are just killing me with the password constantly not working, yet I know it's right so I have to back through their verification process and then it says the info doesn't match what they have on file :badpc::badpc::badpc::badpc::badpc::badpc::badpc:

Then :tinker: your both approved and can enjoy the 2 referral & sign up bonuses
I love how you're always so kind going around wishing people success! It's nice to see "positivity" :goodvibes on the thread and you're always sending out those vibes with your tink emoji :) Do you know if your tink comment has any special powers of approval? :rotfl2:

Oh no...Slinky!! Man, in many respects, TSL is falling to pieces at times!

To reply to my own post LOL, I applied, had to call, they closed the gold and the Platinum is on it's way :-). Can't get DH out of popup land, but Delta likes me LOL. This is the biggest MSR I have had, but in looking at air lately, a big stockpile of Delta miles is really great for us, since we are a hub and the best flights from here are on Delta. Couldn't really pass up 90k (80K SUB and 10k referral.)
YAY!! CONGRATS!
