I think this is a good caution - but also nothing for any of us chasing Disney to worry about. While the train could be shutdown...depending on your strategy to earn miles, most of us starting are fairly safe. Each player can get a Barclays personal, Barclays Biz, Citi Personal and Citi Biz without even boarding the train. Depending on which offers you choose, that's 200k - 250k points right there. Between 2 players you can get 400k-500k. That's enough points for a week at a Deluxe Disney resort.

Now I personally am planning to do 1 of ea biz card for my wife, 1 of ea biz card for me and then a 2nd Citi biz card via mailer. That "2nd Citi" would be a loss in this scenario - but I could replace that with a personal card if I want to use a 5/24 slot (which in that instance I would).

Basically, I'm saying that there are a lot of ways to earn AA Miles 1 time without the train. People on r/churning are flying round the world first class multiple times with their "train earnings". I'm just trying to get 300k miles to book a week at Disney :)

Yup, DH and I are each at 120k just by Barclays and Citi AA biz. I plan to pick up one more biz for each of us with mailers and then see what the environment looks like after that. I'm using these for Japan flights though, so not banking on them for Disney!

Yaaaaay jury duty!!! (From someone who fervently and desperately needs jurors to show up to court, dear god, please actually be here I know it's inconvenient but holy crap we have to get this case over with).

I know you're a good person who shows up though :) But seriously, it's tough to get jurors to come in.

Oh boy. Yeah the one I was called for was county too so I'm sure boring. I want one of the ones like on TV, lol. I watch the ID channel all the time. My DS is like why, then you are stuck in a hotel room for months with no contact with anyone!

I had always wanted to do it until I had to sit on a jury federal court and be responsible for sending someone away to prison for a long time due to the 3 strikes law. His poor girlfriend/wife/whatever broke down after the verdict was read. I felt so guilty. Never want to do jury duty again.

I got picked for a criminal trial a couple of years ago - it was a bar fight where someone was stabbed (he lived - he was there to testify). It was interesting, but pretty much everyone involved was super shady about dealing with the law and gave implausible stories - the victim, his girlfriend... there was even a witness who insisted on pleading the 5th (he wasn't accused of anything - the judge had to clear the courtroom and explain to him that you can be compelled to give evidence that doesn't incriminate you). The victim wouldn't even say he was sure that the accused was the guy who stabbed him (there was a whole crowd of people around), even though they were in a dispute. The whole jury agreed that the only testimony that seemed rock solid was the bartender who described the layout of the bar (the fight happened outside out of her view, or maybe she could have cleared the whole thing up for us). It was an interesting window into the criminal justice system, and I'm glad I did my duty. Also glad the case wasn't more awful.

Mine was over a stupid dime bag (I didn't even know what that was and still don't know what type of drug was in it) gone bad. So "hacker" gave a couple a ride in the wrong part of Baltimore city, asked them where he could score some. A gentleman/punk sold him the dime bag and then decided he wanted the bag back without returning the funds. Pulled out a gun and shot it in the middle of a busy street. Cops were in the area and the punk ran and dropped the "gun." No eye witnesses, the hacker's story was completely laughable, no fingerprints presented. The punk was charged with the gun violation and there were no drug charges. Once we had to deliberate I was the lone hold out since I didn't understand why there were no eye witnesses and some of the jurors were more city savvy and tried to explain to me that you just don't come forward. The defense attorney polled the duty to make sure we are agreed to the guilty verdict. I understand that very rarely occurs.

Instant approval for DHs SW Plus! Hello to my very first CP! :dogdance:
Congrats!! I also just wanted to say how it was very impressive that you thought through all the various ways to make things happen! A lot of people just haphazardly go about this churning game and miss opportunities. I think the strategy you have there is very impressive and having two CPs pretty soon will be an AMAZING accomplishment. :)

You're right on how the points work for the Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card. The Ultimate Rewards site inventory is updated frequently and without notice. We cannot say for sure if or when Disney properties might become available again. ^AA

This is just complete BS. Chase Support admitted in another tweet that Disney is not available on the UR portal because they made a business decision to remove redemption for Disney properties from the program.

As long as that decision stands, Chase can absolutely say for sure that Disney properties will not be available on their portal, and Chase can’t say they have no notice or control whether that inventory ever becomes available again because it’s their decision to include Disney or not.
They’re just making up answers as they tweet. :sad2:

Can I get some advice? I will need to pay DD's tuition in August and again in December. Her college portal charges 2.5% if you pay by credit card (no amex option). I can also do a monthly payment plan. No "interest" but there's a $75 fee. I do not have that money sitting in the bank so I'm considering a 0% transfer card (I think amex has one for 15 months). After that, assuming it's still not paid off, I'm considering a home equity loan.

DH thinks this is all too complicated and we should just put the whole thing on a home equity loan and pay it off as soon as possible. This is her last year so this will be it.

A complication is that I have no idea what her tuition will be next year until her financial aid award comes in.

I need to structure this to minimize interest and fees and maximize points. Any ideas?
Are you eligible for CIC or CIU? 0% the first year.
