I've been looking to get a new camera and have found a lot of good advise here, so thanks everyone.

So, I got a Canon PowershotA620. If anyone has one, tell me what you think of it. I've been reading the manual an trying to figure it out.

I really like the movable screen.

I have it and I really like it; takes really nice quality photos. Are you reading the basic manual? That's a good place to start. Anything specific you want to know, ask away. :)

I've had fun playing with it. I need figure it out before we leave for WDW at the end of Sept.

I think my DH is going to get on of the high speed SD cards....I think I read that it was recommended.

It's a good camera with plenty of great features. You should have a lot of fun with it! I'd recommend 2 memory cards (probably 1 Gig each) in case one dies, the other will still work and you won't lose all your photos. If you don't have a laptop or other means to download, you may want even more if you shoot in large jpeg mode or use the video option (which is pretty good).

I bought one in June. I took the picture in my Sig with it! I like, but havent had a chance to use it alot. I plan on taking it on my trip TOMORROW!!!

My family will be in Galveston for the weekend and I plan on taking a lot of pictures and trying it out.

I have one - love it! Like the others said... any questions just ask away :)

I think the biggest difference between the two is the sensor and its megapixels. The 520 has 4, the 620 has 7. Otherwise, from reading the specs and the fact that they're both Powershots, they're probably quite similar.

I'm Back! I used mine on the trip and loved it. It took better video than the video camera I bought! So buy a few 2Gig cards so you can do both video and stills!

I also have an A620 and for the most part am very happy with it. :thumbsup2 I have been trying to take sports pictures (varsity Soccer and Softball) with it and can not seem to find the right settings so that the pictures do not blur. I have tried the kids and pets settings and also some maunual settings. I am looking to "stop the action". I would also like to learn to pan so that the subject is in focus and the background is blurred. Am I asking more then the camera is capable of? Or am I just not getting it? :confused3 Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Laurie

To stop the action, you need to have a fast shutter speed, like 1/500 of a second or higher. You can set shutter speed manually using the Tv setting, and the camera will operate everything else automatically to expose the photo properly.

You might be asking more than the camera can perform if the games are in areas with low lighting, like indoors or late in the day, because it can only go up to 400 ISO. At high noon on a sunny day, you'll likely have no problem using a fast shutter speed because you'll get enough light to the sensor to take a bright enough photo.

Thanks so much for your reply. I tried goofing with the shutter and apeture but even at 3 in the afternoon the pictures were coming out like I was taking them at midnight. I am thinking I need to reset the orignal settings and try again! This is my first experience with a digital and I love it! All the pictures that I have taken to date have been using the automatic settings but I understand that it is capable of alot more. It is just figuring it out.
Thanks again
Laurie

What works best for me taking pictures at the kids' sports activities, whatever camera I'm using, is burst mode. Really stops the action well and you can choose one or two from each set.

I just got back and I really liked the pictures I took.

Also, I just got my copy of Consumers Reports and they had a section on digital cameras.

The Cannon Powershot 620A was listed as #1 in the small camera section. :cool1: I guess we made a good choice....and it was on clearance. :cool1:
