Can someone help me. What is the difference betweeen renting and transfering. All other DVC information on the rent didboard site would be helpful. Thanks so much. Stupid.. Send to jmiles8812@comcast.net

When an owner rents points, he/she actually makes a reservation for someone. The owner keeps "control" of the reservation.

When an owner transfers points, he/she moves points from his/her account to another member's account. The member who receives the points can now do whatever he/she likes with the points (within the rules, of course, LOL). The member who transfered the points no longer has any control over them

Points are of no value to a non-member. When a non-member rents points, he/she is really renting a stay at a DVC resort.

Hope that helps and no one here thinks you are stupid!

Best wishes -

A transfer is when one DVC member transfers points from their account to another DVC member's account. Only DVC members have the ability to do transfers.

If you're not a member, you have nothing to transfer to (no DVC membership account).

To add onto OP's question,

Are the transferred points still under the use-year of the transferring DVC member? Also, are the transferred points eligible for the 11 month booking window (assuming they're transferred over that early) for the home resort they're transferring from?

In other words, let's say I purchase 100 VWL points with an August UY to be transferred into my account. Do I have until August 2006 to use those 100 points and can I make reservations at VWL 11 months out with those points even if MY home resort is not VWL?

Technically, teh points are supposed to retain their own home resort and UY. However, teh computers are not capable of doing this and it is difficult to make it happen. You can call MS and see if it will work, but it's somehwat dependent upon what CM you speak to. You can ask for a supervisor and they should[/] make it work for you, but it is not easy.

Does this mean that if I have a June UY at WLV and I have someone transfer their Sept 2006UY OKW points to my account, those points automatically get turned into WLV June2006 points?

Is there a maximum number of points I can get transferred into my account?

That's what it does, but they could fix the "glitch" any time.

You can never have more than 3 years worth of points in your account at one time.

Thanks for all of the information wtpclc! I've been wondering about this ever since I found the DIS and found out we could rent and/or transfer points.

Stick around and you'll know more than you ever wanted to know! ;)

Ok, here is another question...

My family is thinking of doing a group trip to WDW. I only have 100 WLV so if I bank 100 points and borrow another 100, I will have 300 points to use for reservations. The problem is that due to the size of my family, I will need more than 300 points to reserve the rooms I need. If I use all 300 points, can I then have someone transfer another 300 points into my account so that I can book more rooms?

Yes you can. Or you can have them reserve some of the rooms you need.
