I hope the rumors of renovations to the 4th floor of the Contemporary do not happen

I was telling my Dad about this & he thinks if the Contemporary does go threw with this that it would be a bad idea & I agree with him. Here is the way I see it. Having the Concourse Steakhouse next to Chef Mickey's will have guests saying to themselves maybe next time we should come back & try Chef Mickey's or vice versa, because this way guests can see both restaurants right next to each other. With the Outer Rim being right there it's a great place for guests to wait for their tables & have a drink before going to the Concourse Steakhouse & Chef Mickey's. As for the Fun & Food Center what would happen to the door at the back that takes you out to the North Garden Rooms & the parking lot? If they put the Concourse Steakhouse & Outer Rim down there it would look stupid keeping that automatic door there that would go into a restaurant. Lastly this would a huge nightmare for the Contemporary if this were to happen. Think of all the guests who eat at the Food & Fun Center everyday & the kids who play in the arcade. If they had to move it all up to the 4th floor who knows how long those renovations would take & how it would be a major inconvenience because they would not open up in one day. If people were complaining about Captin Cooks being closed at the Polynesian, this would be 10 times worse. We should not also forget the Concouse Steakhouse. If this is all true & now one knows when all these renovations would start, so how would you feel if you had an ADR there & found out it had to be cancelled because they were moving & because nobody has a clue when all this would happen.

I say again that I hope all this information is false & the Cast Members at the Contemporary who told members of the Disboards this info were given false information. Because I don't see this happening & if it does then it would a huge mistake by the Contemporary.

Aren't the restaurants already on the 4th floor? Where would they be moving them to?

There is a rumor going around that they are going to move to Concourse Steakhouse & the Outer Rim Lounge to where to Food & Fun Center is & they would move the Food & Fun Center, along with the arcade to 4th floor where the Concourse Steakhouse would be. Like I said before I hope that it is just a rumor & I hope it does not happen because it would be a huge mistake by the Contemporary to do that.

As usual, I've got a contrairian view on this. IMHO, its about time they did do something different with the Contemporary. From what I can see, the first floor has a lot of un-used space. Sure, they need some room for things like bell services, etc, but what is in the whole section from the elevators to the south end of the tower? Lets see some new stuff in there and on the 4th floor.

To me it would just look weird putting the Food & Fun Center next to Chef Mickey's & even more weird with the arcade going there. I just think the way things are know & fine, so I say if it aint broke don't fix it.

The Concourse IS the 4th floor, hence the name "Concourse Steakhouse".
But if the restaurant is moved Disney would probably rename it anyway.
Just my 2 cents

ITAI think Food 'N' Fun could use a rehab, but like things right where they are.

Fortunately, it seems that for now, the changes might be just rumors.

That is another reason not to move the Concourse Steakhouse, because of the word Concourse in the title. It goes with the 4th floor & everyone is use to the name it has now.

"Basement Steakhouse" sounds good.

Don't they already have this in Epcot - Le Cellier :rotfl:

In the minority here but, I think moving it would be a great idea.

We love Chef Mickey's & usually work it in each trip but, have avoided the Concourse Steakhouse because it's subject to all the downsides of CM (noise, wide open spaces w/the throng waiting to be seated/get pics taken, etc.) w/o the benefit of any charactar interaction. There are times I'd just like to take a nice, quiet break from the MK & enjoy a good steak w/o all the hoopla. JMO.

I agree with you and OKW Lover. I like the suggested changes and I think the arcade on the fourth floor would be great! And the Concourse Steakhouse would be better away from Chef Mickey's. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. Even if they don't make the rumored changes, some things will no doubt be rehabbed or updated.

One major impediment in moving the Concourse Steak House is that they'd have to add a new kitchen.

I don't really like the idea of moving the Food & Fun Center up to the 4th floor. It is already very noisy, although I guess it can't get more noisy than it already is with Chef Mickey there. I would rather they leave it as it is.

I see both sides of the issue here. It would be strange with the arcade upstairs on the 4th floor. And, it is nice to see the monorail glide by while you are at the outer rim and Concourse steakhouse. but on the otherhand the food and fun center needs a major update. It seems so dark and dull down there like you are in a dungen. It would be nice if Disney could leave the 4th floor alone and renovate the food and fun center and give it a new theme and mabe add a window.

But the bottom line is we have no control over this issue. We will not know what will happen untill they start worlking on it. So I guess we have to have to have faith in Disney that whatever they do will turn out O.K.. :thumbsup2

P.S. I wrote a letter to Disney asking them exacly what will happen to the Contemporary with renovations. I will update you guys if I hear back.

I feel the reasoning behind moving the Concourse steakhouse is to bring it more inline with the other fine dining restaurants at the deluxes. It would have a quieter/more adult atmosphere away from Chef Mickeys. CR hosts a lot of conventions and the Californina Grill stays booked. Convention & resort guests need another upscale restaurant. I've eaten at the Concourse and it is loud. I felt like I was paying a lot for the pleasure of eating in the middle of a 3 ring circus.

We didn't use the Food 'n Fun center in Dec. because it was so bad on our previous visit. It definitely needs a change.

Chef Mickey's does need to be enlarged.

The Steakhouse does seem to be crammed in that spot.

The shops, though, are beautiful in that huge, open space. People in the monorail overhead can see the shopping area as they zoom through.

The Food and Fun Center IS pitiful for a deluxe resort. I love CR, but this fact IS true. There does seem to be a lot of space on the bottom floor, so just expand the food court? area and open up the arcade a bit.

Do NOT move the food court away from the doors to the Wings or away from the pool area. Who wants to go up an escalator in their swimsuit?

There is no food service area at the Contemp. pool, is it? So, we need that bottom floor door to a snack area. Plus, for conventions, it is a fast place to go over and get a quick snack/meal. . .without having to go upstairs.

Could they move the Concourse Steakhouse to the floor of the Cal. Grill. (I've never been there so I don't know if it takes up the whole floor.) If not, couldn't they put the Steakhouse on one of the upper floors, much like the Cal. Grill?

The lounge area is a beautiful place to relax and look at Bay Lake, plus, if you are waiting for your ADR at Chef Mickey's, they tell you that the lounge area is a good place to go and wait.

Actually outside the pool area where you get your towels, there is a place called the Sand Bar. It serves the same items that you can get in the Food & Fun Center. In January of 2000 when my family & I were there the Food & Fun Center was closed for one day while we were there because they were just finishing some renovations, so they said you can get the same food at the Sand Bar.
