I haven't been this excited about my birthday since I turned 21! COMPLETE

Lovely meal at Yiko and even better with friends to dine with, lots of birthday and anniversary desserts too! ... Enjoying your reviews on each restaurant : )
Wondering between Yiko and Sanaa ... Do you have a favorite? Different price point but curious

All your meals are looking so good. The bad thing about reading reviews is that it makes you give your ADRs a second thought. I have changed so many of ours around its crazy. I think I am going to try to get to San Angel though. I like the idea of seeing if a walk up is open to get out of the heat. I don't think the DH would complain to much about appetizers, margaritas, and air conditioning.

Oh I love Jiko! :lovestruc

And your food looks amazing!

Also - I love that some of my favourite DiS people are featured or mentioned in that review! :hyper:

We are in La Hacienda Monday October 27 at 7:30.

Jiko looks so good. I have had monkfish many times and loved it every time. The last few trips we have gone to Jiko for Wine Wednesdays. We will do that in October as well. But I miss dinner. Going to have to go back soon.

I am still not quite ready to go back to San Angel after two poor experiences but each time I see a review I get a step closer! Not sure we will even consider it with F&W. Hoping to do some of the events so probably no full meals in EPCOT. I do love that avocado margarita though!

I seem to recall from the live thread that they temporarily quit serving the avocado margarita at La Cava during the F & W Festival last year. So if you are in the area and happen to think of it, please check it out and let me know what you find out. ;)

This report just makes me hungry! I am definitely going to try an avocado margarita in the summer :)

Sounds like a great plan to me, Jeanette! Let me know what you think of it. :thumbsup2

I think I would enjoy SAI as your food looks delicious and my kid (it is just the two of us this trip) would love to wave at people riding the Gran Fiesta but I just looked at the kid's menu...it is terrible with a quesadilla as the only "Mexican" food item. Boooo!

I don't think I have posted in your trip report yet...happy belated birthday! I spent my birthday last Halloween at WDW and it was a blast!

Hello and thanks for the birthday wishes! :)

The latest kids menu I could find on my live thread was from Oct. '13, sent in by Riles_and_Gabe. It does show a few other basic Mexican food options other than the quesadilla so I thought it might be of interest to you...

Enjoying the reviews!!

What a beautiful review and I know the company was even better. I am going to have to give Jiko another try some day. We had a bad experience 3 years ago, however your pictures and reviews have me convinced to go back another for another try :)

Thanks Lori! Hey, when is that baby due, it has to be very, very soon? :goodvibes

After my previous two visits to Jiko (last in May 2012), I really wasn't in any hurry to return. But I was a late addition to Paula & Brenda's party and they already had all of their dining plans set, which included dinner at Jiko. So I decided to just "go with the flow" on this one and give it another try. I'm very glad that I did because, except for dessert (which was free anyway), I really enjoyed the food that I had here this time. :thumbsup2

Ok, the smokehouse kiosk looks amazing. I'm now very interested to see what Paula has to say about those cupcakes ;)

Though I only tried a couple of things at this year's festival booths, last year we tried several things and the Smokehouse brisket was definitely one of our favorites. :thumbsup2 We also had the pulled pork slider last year, but got a really salty batch and didn't like it. I wanted to give it another try this year, but sadly I never got back there. :sad2:

I'm probably not the best person to answer this question, as I've only been to Sanaa one time (in May 2011) and didn't really have a good first experience. I did have the perfect opportunity to make a return visit to Sanaa on this trip, as Paula & Hunter invited me to join them when they had lunch there. I decided to head to Raglan Road for Sunday brunch though. I do know that they really enjoyed their lunch there, which I think they just had appetizers.

But to answer you question, given my limited experience, I would say that Jiko is definitely my favorite of the three AKL restaurants. ;)

I think a visit to SAI is a great way to take a break from the Florida heat. Let me know how it goes. :thumbsup2

Hi Shari! Yes, the food and company at Jiko were great. If only our server had been better, this meal would have probably been among my favorites of the trip. Oddly enough, during my last visit to Jiko, the service was outstanding but my entree was not so good.

Monday, Oct. 27 sounds perfect, thanks Niki! :)

Great Jiko review Barb
Glad I got to have a 'virtual drink' with you all to celebrate all the birthdays and anniversarys :thumbsup2

Barb the baby is due in 7 weeks! Can you believe I spent 6 days in WDW last week and had more stamina them by husband!

On Tuesday, Paula, Brenda, and their hubbies were heading to Animal Kingdom. Sorry AK fans, but I would have to say that this is currently my least favorite Disney World park. I suspect this has more to do with the lack of great restaurants there than the rides, shows, etc. While Yak & Yeti, Flame Tree, and even Rainforest Cafe are all fine, none of these are on my must-do list. I've never tried Tusker House (where the others had breakfast on Tuesday morning), so will need to do that sometime but for today I had something else in mind for my breakfast. ;)

I had learned on my first day that the next stop for the Downtown Disney bus after picking up at the Wilderness Lodge is the Grand Floridian, so I decided that this might be the most direct and fastest Disney transportation option. My strategy worked perfectly, as there was a DTD bus sitting at the WL bus stop when I approached. I boarded the empty bus and we quickly departed for the Grand Floridian (Oh yeah, private bus ride to the Grand!! :woohoo: ).

You may have noticed that the above photos were not taken from the front of the resort (where the bus stop is located), but instead were taken from the back. Since I didn't have an ADR scheduled, I didn't need to be anywhere at a certain time. It was a beautiful morning so I went outside and took a few moments to soak up some of the beauty of the Grand Floridan resort. When I felt sufficiently "soaked" I entered the main building to have breakfast at the...

Situated in front of the restaurant entrance there is a table which always holds a beautiful fresh flower arrangement...

I then approached the nice ladies at the restaurant's front desk to check on the availability of a table for one...

I was immediately seated at a table for two by a window, much like this one...

Before looking at the menu, I took a minute to "stop and smell the roses" ...

I love the beautiful red rose that adorns each and every table at this restaurant. So simple, yet so elegant.

Then I got down to the business of photographing the menu...

And the flip side for the cold beverages...

However, there was no need for me to actually read the menu because I knew exactly what I wanted. First I was in need of some caffeine...

...which was satisfied by a simple cup of coffee with cream.

And then my #1 reason for having breakfast at the Grand Floridian Cafe...

Vanilla-Laced French Toast - Brioche Bread dipped in Vanilla flavored batter, served with your choice of bacon or sausage - $11.99

And a close-up shot...

I make a pretty darn good version of French toast, if I do say so myself. ;) However, I am the first to admit that this one trumps mine. As further proof of its greatness, when I last visited the GFC I shared the French toast with my DD Emily. Those of you who know her from my previous dining reports, know that there are very few breakfast foods that she would deem worthy of giving up her precious sleep. After our December breakfast, Emily declared that the GFC's French toast was one of these foods. :thumbsup2

After slowly savoring every bite of my delicious breakfast, I made my way upstairs to board the monorail to Magic Kingdom, but I stopped to take one last photo of the beautiful Grand Floridian lobby...

...and then for the first time of the trip I heard one of my favorite Disney World phrases,

"Please stand clear of the doors. Por favor manténganse alejado de las puertas." :goodvibes

Next up: Lunch at The Plaza

Barb, thanks for posting the pic of the SAI kid menu! That looks so much better than the one posted on the disney website.

GFC is the only monorail restaurant I have never eaten at. Must change that!

I am a french toast enthusiast! The GFC will go down on my list for a future trip try :thumbsup2

Aw wow! Seeing your pictures of the Floriidan makes me feel at home : ) we've stayed there on 8 vacations and love love the hotel, the grand cafe, the garden lounge tea and on and on ((( love )) Our next trip staying at WL for the first time .... Venturing out of comfort zone, but keep second guessing myself. Must get over it lol
Onto the breakfast ... Love the French toast it's delicious and with your pictures I can almost taste it. What a beautiful setting for any meal : )

"Please stand clear of the doors. Por favor manténganse alejado de las puertas." is the text message received alert on my phone, lol.

I wonder if we passed one another at MK on Tuesday - I had my eyes peeled but didn't see you. We arrived at opening, left in the early afternoon then returned when the heavens opened up later that evening. Can't beat going in to the MK when everyone is fleeing the MK! Can't wait to see where you went that (hot) day :)

Love the GF and GF Cafe! I really want to try breakfast there one day, it looks so nice. I have had dinner there twice and it was great both times :)

Subbing into the party fashionably late. Enjoying all the updates so far, but that French toast was just a tease as I sit here and eat a delicious bowl of Cheerios.

I had intended to post another Disney food review this morning but was distracted by the newest member of our family. So instead, I'd like to share with you a photo of "food for the heart."

Meet Bailey George {It's a Wonderful Life" is a family favorite ;)}, an 8 week old female Lab/Blue Heeler mix who is the definition of "puppy love".
