I have been put on Prometrium....any experience with it?

The Dr. just called and said she is putting me on Prometrium - from today to 14weeks. I have had one person who told to me avoid it like the plague, but the dr. said it will do me wonders. Any experience with it? I have done some research in the 1 hour that I have known, and it seems that there are a lot of sucessfuly pregnancies resulting from it. what do you think?

Well, I've been on Prometrium (progesterone) as well as Estratest (estrogen) for over 3 years now.

However, it is for hormone replacement therapy during menopause, NOT (Oh, Good Lord) for pregnancy!

I haven't had any trouble with it. I take the Estratest every day and the Prometrium Day 14-25 each month. You should be careful to take the Prometrium before you go to bed, as it tends to make you drowsy.

The only problem I've had is when they tried increasing the Estratest strength and I got severe cramping. Hey, I'm finished with that cramping stuff, thank you very much!

To sustain my pregnancy. The dr. said it does say right on there "Not to be taken if pregnant", but that it is not true. That it should not be taken by preg women that don't have any problems - but women with low prog, it does wonders. Any comments? Thanks!

I can't remember if that is what I took-it sounds familiar. It was a little round pill and the worse side effect I had was I kept choking on the darn thing DH wouldn't leave for work(he was working midnights at the time)until I took it. The little one in our pic is our chlomid baby. A good source of knowledge for any medication is your pharmacist--I usually call him/her if I am concerned about taking something.

I took progesterone (don't know what specific brand) until I was five months. My progesterone was so low that I would probably have had a miscarriage without it. I have two healthy seven-year-olds today.

A friend took it with all three of her kids after three miscarriages. (She hadn't taken it with the miscarriages.) All three of her kids are fine.

My next door neighbor also took it after miscarriages and her kids are also fine.

Thank you all so much! I just got wonderful news from my dr...my prog levels are GREAT! and my beta came back wonderful. I go in for another tomorrow to make sure they are doubling correctly...
