I Have A Firey Hatred For Heelys

One is a straight A student, the other not. Neither volunteers in a homeless shelter on a regular basis, no. Why do you ask?

Because it seems a little arrogant to say they skate better than most people walk.

Kinda like you're saying you have the perfect kids that are incapable of doing wrong...

JunieJay, I am confident that if more parents believed as you do, heelies would not be so complained about.

For the record, I would not trip a kid either ~~I limit myself to rolling my eyes at the parents. :)

I got Heelys for Christmas(I am 14) and I have yet to master them. I can see where you get annoyed. I do because I am like the only older peson with them and I fall everytime I try to use them(besides holding onto a cart in Target). They are really fun to kids because it is like being able to skate inside like parents never wanted to let us do but know we are just wearing our shoes:)

Wonder if the parents claim it's an accident if their child hurts somebody.

Sorry, it's no accident. They gambled and lost. I hope anybody they hurt does call security and make sure the family gets what's coming to them.

I've never heard of them. Are they rollerblades/combined with: trainers, boots or shoes? :confused3

LOL, oh yeah, saying my kids are good skaters is akin to saying my kids can do no wrong. If you say so. :confused3

Oh and those of you who had nice things to say about my kids, thank you. :) For some reason they have been the talk of the Internet the past couple of weeks, surreal as that is. :p

They are sneakers (trainers to you I believe) with one wide wheel in the heel that can be removed. To use the the user basically has to lift up their toes as if they are walking on the their heels.

You didn't say they were good skaters.... you said that they skate better than most people walk.

Well, they do. They are very good skaters and they are very good at maneuvering on skates.

That is akin to saying they can do no wrong? :confused3

Ya know what, don't answer that. I really don't care what you have to say. I'm not about to nitpick this issue to death. Me and my Heely loving kids are gonna bow out of this one for now. Have fun. :)

That's the impression I got when you first posted it.

JunieJay, I just wanted to tell you that I didn't read anything you said in that way. You sounded completely reasonable to me, and I didn't think you were trying to imply that your children were perfect or better than anybody else's kids - just that they happen to be good on their Heelies (which it sounds like they use responsibly).

Well my 2 oldest have them. My dd(9) is very good on them but is only allowed to use them in open places- like our driveway. Not in a mall Not in a grocerystore. She has tried to wear them when we are going out to shop and that costs her time using them. I really don't have issues with them in theory- I have never been bumped into and I have seen them everywhere. I don't have a problem with kids having fun. Especially when it has no impact on my personal space. Perhaps we are more rural than most of you so we don't get tons in one spot.

I am thankful that none of my children have expressed any interest in Heelys. Probably because they know they would only be using them outdoors, with protective gear on :goodvibes

I do find them annoying and seem to have noticed that since Christmas there are alot more kids wearing them in the stores who havent quite mastered the heelying yet (thank goodness our local stores dont allow them, only the bigger city about an hour away).

Havent ever seen a kid with heelys wearing a helmet, is that the norm elsewhere, skating without protective gear?

:confused3 so these things just have one wheel?

I don't see what the controversy is about. Most people seem to agree that they are inappropriate in crowded public areas. I don't agree with tripping a kid or any of that but I wonder how many people would do that for real?
