I Have A Firey Hatred For Heelys

Just don't threaten to knock down any one wearing them..OK :duck:

I would never go out of my way to knock one down. But I'm not going to jump out of their way either. If they run into me it's their own fault and I won't feel any remorse.

Is the OP still here or were they just bored on a friday night?

:stir:

:confused3 If bikes, skateboards etc are not allowed at malls why are these things?

My DARLING son has them. He actually stopped wearing them until a friend of his got some for Christmas.

He has never ran into anyone or fallen. I think people on the Dis like to lie like rugs about being run into. It annoys me when they are used at inappropriate places but I have never seen anyone get run into anywhere.

I use a walker to get around most of the time due to an accident a few months back, and I have lost count of how many times I have been ran into by kids using these things:sad2: or pushing shopping carts in the stores. Kids just dont make safety a top priority for themselves or realize others "safety zones".

I got my Dh Heelys for Christmas and it is quite amusing to watch him master the skill! (it is harder than it looks). I can't wait until he takes them to work and "Heels" to all his meetings and such!! (not sure he has the guts to actually wear them to work). My son also has them and he is pretty good at it. But, I have to agree, they can be quite annoying in stores and such. My only real complaint is that I didn't invent them!! Can you imagine the millions that person has now????

Children shouldn't be skating in crowded public places.

If you don't like that they are, you're in for more trouble. There was a young man using Heelys in the grocery store this afternoon, skating through the aisles with his girlfriend holding his hand. He was at least 20.

Did your parents ever let you do things that bugged other people when you were a kid?
No, as a matter of fact they did not. My parents taught us, very early on, to have respect for other people in public and we were strongly reprimanded if we disobeyed that rule.

I have not problem with people allowing their children to have Heelys, I have no respect for people who allow their children to do whatever annoying thing they want in public.

I am still here, but getting ready to go to bed, as the Cheesecake Factory needs someone to open tomorrow at 7am. And for the record, I don't recall my mum letting me do things that bugged others when I was young.

As for people getting hurt (when they deserve it,) I feel that falls under schadenfreude, much like watching people out in the rain.

sorry OP! No disrespect intended... it just seems like most Dis'ers know not to post this topic .....haha

Have a great day at work.....hope no heeely kids come into the factory...LOL

I didn't read the entire thread but

It's the establishments that are failing both those using and those not in the case of the Heely's.

I just can't go and rollerskate or rollerblade or skatboard in these places so why on earth are they letting them roll on these things.

I will not buy them for DD as if she wants to skate she can in a proper place with proper skates.

Now I'm saying that kids shouldn't be able to use them but there is a place for them and at WDW or a mall is not it.

You'll step in front of a child coming at you in Heely's? Wow, you really must hate them....that sounds a bit extreme, to actually step in the way of a child on skates. :confused3

I work at a baseball stadium during the season and very often i have to step in front of children or discipline children that are doing dangerous things (this includes the use of heelys). You would be surprised at how many of these children just dont understand that there are rules in place preventing them from doing the things they are doing. Why? BEcause they have parents that dont give a rats behind enough to teach them. Then you do have those that know the rules and still dont obey them again because the parents dont give a crap. Now I understand that its not my job to discipline kids at the mall or in a store parking lot like it is at the stadium but i will do it because its one less child i have to worry about running me or someone else down on their skates. And one less child i have to worry about running over in a parking lot.

I personally feel as most others do, there are places for kids with Heely's, but WDW, the mall, or the grocery store is not one of them. :sad2: Unfortunately many kids don't have manners on foot let alone on wheels. If Heely's weren't causing injuries/problems than this topic wouldn't be so hot!

They are not allowed to wear them in our school, because the administration knows the problems, and injuries that would occur if they did.

I must say, these things are quite the most annoying thing that I've encountered in a long while; perhaps more annoying than Push to Talk cell phones in public.

I went to the mall today with the family, and I saw people using them in the book store, around the food court and weaving though people walking down the halls. It seems like a large percentage of them are six year olds who have yet to master the use of these shoes and keep hitting into people and such. Anyone else share my disdain for these things?

My kids don't have them, but I've seen them everywhere- malls, parks, supermarkets and have never seen kids crashing into anyone. They seem to be able to master them quite well. They don't bother me in the least.

I guess I don't understand.....wouldn't it be MORE dangerous to step in front of a child who is rolling on wheels than simply just get out of the way? You say if you see a child on Heely's you will step in front of them and they will land on their butts. Doesn't sound too safe to me. :confused3

I can understand people not liking them, especially if kids are weaving in and out and knocking people over. But to actually get in the path of a kid on skates seems a bit crazy to me, regardless of your preference for Heelys or your personal feelings toward kids who wear them (and the parents who allow it).

That was my thought too, these DISers who are seeing such recklessness must live in an area where Heelys are new to the community. We've had them around here for a couple of years, most of the kids are pros on them by now.

FTR, just wanted to clarify...I don't like the way some kids are allowed to use Heely's in public places, but I would never, ever do anything to harm a child (no matter how annoyed I was). For me, it's merely an annoyance.

Hmmmmm, I have been bumped by children in non-heely shoes, maybe I should knock down all kids in case they are going to bump into me?

Oh, and for the record, noone I know owns a pair!:teacher:
