We have had this house for 6 years and all through the house there are 2 layers of very very old wallpaper that is ugly, and glued right on to the drywall, no primer. So of course it is hard as hades to get off. It took us 2 years to get the kitchen done, 4 for the bedroom. Now we want to move so we figured we better get the office and front room done. I WOULD RATHER DANCE THE CAN-CAN IN FRONT OF MY STUDENTS IN NOTHING BUT A TU-TU AND PASTIES THAN DEAL WITH THIS WALLPAPER!

We have been looking at houses and my 1st requirement is that the house have no wallpaper. One we looked at we really liked until we got to the bathroom and it is covered in paisley wallpaper. I saw the walls and started crying! DH told the realtor we would pass and lets move on before my wife has a break down!

What the heck is the point of wallpaper? It's a lot of work to get up and down and you end up getting sick of it in a few years anyway.

Thank you. Rant temporarily over.

Um....please don't do that

Just move and let the new homeowners deal with the wallpaper....PLEASE????

nativetxn, I would like nothing better than to leave this for the next homeowners, as it was left for us. But DH disagrees. We really need to try and get the most out of our home that we can so we have enough to help with getting our new home. I am thinking about pulling the standby "I'm too pregnant for this" and getting mine and his familly to come help with our living room.

The only thing I liked about the wallpaper at my old house was the little pieces of it I stuck in a little box that I brought out everytime we had friends over to show them how hideous it used to look! We did leave the gold foil brick wallpaper in the hall closet though - we were too lazy to scape out a closet.

Sonya--I can feel your pain.

I am the daughter of a man, who, if he had to, and had the time, could build a house from scratch. He did not 'do' wallpaper either. He loathed it so much, it is the one and only thing I can ever remember him hiring someone else to do when we were growing up. Now that's hate.

Deep breath, and please No Can Can dancing.

I hear you loud and clear!!

The previous owners wallpapered way too much imo but, at the time, it looked nice. Well, just removing a pasted BORDER in DD's bedroom was a nasty mess! I can't imagine doing the kitchen and bathrooms ourselves! No Way!

My mom, on the other hand, is a wallpaper queen. Can't figure it out! Maybe I'll get her to take mine down. ;)

I know what you mean. My kitchen wallpaper was like that and stupid us re-wallpapered it again. I am trying to get up the courage to tackle it again and then not re-paper.

In the meantime I have been in the process of taking down a borner in DD's room. I never dreamed this would be so messy. I did get some spray on remover that helps alot. On the wall that was painted (with other than builder paint) it just peeled right off. The other three walls, well just say didn't.

Good luck!!

Thanks everyone for feeling my pain. They really did a bad job at wallpapering our house, both times. It drives me crazy to even think about all the hard work that we will have to put into this, and then move! (I know I know, we should have done it sooner!) I told DH how depressed it was making me, with all these hormones I think about it and I want to cry. He told me not to worry and he would do it all! Of course I can't let him, I will help, but it's nice of him to say that.

I wonder if I can stay at work a little longer so I won't have to go home right away.......... ;)

I'm with you! The house we moved into in June of 2001 had the same wallpaper in the living room, dining room, down two long hallways and in the entry way (split level with 13 foot ceiling in the entry way). After all the tearing of paper, scraping of glue, repairing of damage to the sheet rock and a trip to the ER after falling from a ladder in the entry way, I'm convinced we would have been better off hiring someone to remove the paper for us!

BTI Sonya, will Thor have purple lips and antennae?!?!?

Of course manchurianbrownbear! Or if this wallpepering doesn't end soon, flowered skin!
