I hate ipads!!

Agreed. I was filming my chiild's concert with an iPhone a few months ago from teh back of the cafeteria, and a lady stepped right in front of me in the middle of the aisle and held up her iPad ad started filming. SHe not only blocked my view but about 20 other people too. I own an Pad and I would never use it as a video device if I were in a crowd where I might obscure someones vision. I use my iPhone for filming videos and taking pictures most of the time, and I look around me to make sure I am not in someone's way.

This thread makes me nervous. No way would I bring my iPad into the parks! Heck, I was nervous about bringing my Kindle into the parks a few years ago to read while waiting in lines and that was way more durable than my iPad.

LOVE my IPad. HATE the quality of it's pics. We personally would never lug those "giant" devices to the parks (even our IPod Touches take better pics and video.) More power to those who do, but as other as have said, please be courteous to others around you when using them to snap pics or record video - and kudos to those who are. Sadly, these days we all know that it's pretty much an every man for himself mentality and most (not all) don't care if they're interfering with someone else's experience - as long as they're enhancing their own.

The only time I have video taped a parade was MSEP, I was sitting on the low rocky ledge (disabled area across from the Hall of Presidents) with my daughters wheelchair in front of me. No one was behind us. My husband was sitting next to me. The family sitting on the other side, in wheelchairs, had a video camera on a tripod and was taping the whole parade. We both chatted with each other and made sure we were not obscuring the view for anyone. I did not video tape the whole parade. I made two 20 second videos, that is all! If that really bothered someone or ruined their parade experience I am sorry. Intolerance can also ruin an experience for people, I can assure that it does.

I think the tone you started out with was confontational "I guess I am hated then...". If you would have posted that you think it is rude for people to hold it up in front of others. That you have to use yours to aid your child, but make sure you use it as briefly as posible and make sure you don't obscure anyones view. I understand how difficult it is to deal with intolerance (my son is ASD). However, on a discusion board such as this, you set your own tone. From your last post, you seem in agreement with the main premise, but your original post didn't read that way. I believe that you don't try to bother anyone with your ipad. The OP was talking about people holding them up all over the place and it sound like that doesn't apply to you.

You know you don't have to use the iPad to do that, you can use a small iPhone and transfer it to the iPad later? You've got to understand, that it is completely ruining the experience of the parade or show for the people behind you, please reconsider using something much smaller so they can enjoy it too?

Sorry, I couldn't resist. While the ipads are distracting, they aren't completely ruining anything. Dumb because the camera is not great, yes, Rude, absolutely yes. A big deal, no.

We're going in December, and I just added a note to take a picture of my DS3 on top of my DH's shoulders....holding an ipad.

We were there in January, and noticed them, but it wasn't a big deal. I would never allow someone else's actions to 'completely ruin' my experience.

I have both an iPad and iPhone and anyone who does knows that for video and photos, the iPad is the inferior product.

I highly doubt everyone knows that. I would assume more people would think bigger equals better so they would use their iPad even if they had both.

"My recordings are much bigger on my iPad then trying to watch it on my little phone screen." Not everyone is tech-savy even for simple things.

That said, if I let an iPad ruin my vacation to Disney I shouldn't even be going. Could be a tad annoying? Sure but ruin it for everyone else. No way...

If a person is blocking your view with an ipad, then yeah, it ruins the experience.

The word HATE was used by the OP and in several early responses which is why I worded my own response with "I guess I am hated". I also was identifying myself as an Ipad user, why I use it and that I try to be considerate of others. The actual tone in my first post, if it could of been heard, would of been one of amusement. At that moment anyway. Not so amused anymore, especially since the "autistic child card" comment was made.

Another vote for "I love ipads" but I don't carry it into the park. We also have the ipad mini and don't carry it in the park; far too bulky, but we are miniliasts and carry almost nothing in.

People do look pretty ridiculous with their iPads in the parks .. it must be annoying to carry around all day too!

I only had mine in the park once when I was homeless for part of the day while switching resorts, I didn't want to Leave it in my luggage as it was being transferred for several reasons. I did use it to take a couple of pics while I was on the riverboat at MK but I wouldn't use it during a parade or any other time there were people behind me.
It wasn't a burden to carry at all, I just had it in my back pack.

I really hate it though when children are hoisted up for viewing purposes blocking my view.Thats why are policy has always been if were not in front on the curb for a parade..show etc...we skip it. If I can't manage my time where I can be in front then we just skip it. I would be miserable behind anyone.

You are right, it is big and bulky especially with the case. I wouldn't carry it if I didn't have a good reason that is for sure! I would much rather use an iPhone or iTouch but DD doesn't have the fine motor skills to use something that small.

I love my iPad. But I agree that it is incredibly annoying when people use them as a camera at shows and parades. I don't even carry mine into the parks except on my departure day.

I am SO calling that move the iBlock from now. Good call on that.
They don't even take good pictures or movies really. I totally understand if you need to carry one around for your child with autism or sensory needs of course. But I do think its silly when its the only camera device someone brings to the parks.

I am afraid to admit though, that if my 2 or 4 year old can't see the parade, they would definitely be on dad's shoulders. I guess I will try to warn people that come in behind us that it might happen, but I would figure not everybody with a small child can get first row for the shows or parades. I honestly never thought about it, but it seems to bother a lot of people so I will certainly be more conscious of it this trip!

When you use the ipad as a recording device you literally have to hold it up high in order to record. It's always going to be totally obscuring someone's view.

At least when people use their video cameras to record they can hold their camera much lower, and since the screen is so much smaller, it's not such a big deal.

People who want to use their ipads as recording devices should try sitting through three shows in a row (like I did) with a person in front of them recording on an ipad. I think they would realize that it is a very inconsiderate thing to do!

The same thing happens when you have waited for the parade to begin and the person ahead of you puts a chile on their shoulders.

I'm thinking that a person with a chile on their shoulder looks a bit goofier than a person with an iPad.
