I hate ipads!!

I'll never forget having dinner at California Grill and when the lights dimmed for Wishes two young girls at the table in front of us (probably 4 and 6) decided to stand directly in front of us holding their Ipads (yes, they each had their own Ipads covered in glitter casings) recording it.

I'll give their mother credit for telling them to put them down, but the brats had no desire to listen and continued to do it until she physically took them out of their hands.

I love my Ipad. But not to take photos or video with. They are awkward to hold and focus. Do the users realize they are completely blocking the view of those behind them or do they just not care? And I don't think anyone here is saying that a disabled child who uses the Ipad to communicate shouldn't be able to use it.

I carry mine on check-out day rather than leaving it at the resort's bag check, and I tried taking photos with it just to see how it would work, and it's difficult to do. I also have a cover on it and the cover slipped in front of the camera lens a lot. I don't know how people hold one of those up long enough to video an entire show, ride or parade. But they do.

Accidentally bumped into someone using their iPad as a camera and they almost dropped it. They looked at me like they could kill.
I simply looked at them and said, "That is why cameras have a strap."
Future invention . . . . . hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

How funny OP posted this as Dh and I noticed last week several people using their Ipad as camera, etc.
We both commented on how bulky and heavy it would be to haul that around
all day and that it would make more sense to use a camera, Iphone and/or even Ipod :hyper:

Last year at my daughters pre-k graduation some rude parents held their iPads up blocking and running our only chance to photograph our kids performing. I could barely get a pic in. It's so extremely rude! I didn't see to many on our wdw trip, but it's super obnoxious anywhere. The cameras also stink! I love my ipad but would never bring to the parks

I'm telling you, they would have gotten a tap on the shoulder and a gentle reminder from me that there were people behind them trying to see.

It's just so strange to see people sitting in an auditorium holding those things up like there's absolutely nobody behind them. :confused3

Yes, I heard there is now a new invention out called a camera that actually takes superior pictures and is much smaller than an iPad. Imagine that..maybe these people will able to upgrade :thumbsup2

It's annoying enough with recording iphones and such blocking the view of fireworks.
Ipads are a nightmare!

In February I was walking behind someone who was using their IPad to film their walk down Main Street toward the castle. They were totally not paying attention and ran into someone and promptly dropped the IPad where it was then walked on by several people. I would think think twice about using it in the parks!

Lol it's not that easy when it's a parade and u can't move booo :(
Or..if you are 5'2".
The same thing happens when you have waited for the parade to begin and the person ahead of you puts a chile on their shoulders.

You are just out of luck.
And...you are on a scooter.
True but I'd much rather deal with being blocked by a child. Atleast in my mind, I'm like 'ok I want to see this BUT I'd rather a child see it" not a phone seeing it blocking my view.. Rude!

But...what if they are blocking your child's view?

I don't think it is a foreign visitor thing. As a pp mentioned, I too have seen it more and more at school functions. At my DD music performance, the person sitting right in front of me held one up to record a song.

Definitely not limited to foreign visitors. My DH, DS, and DD were in a wedding this summer and we have some gorgeous pictures of the kids coming down the aisle together and DH walking the bride down but it is distracting to see the 7 guests in the background taping the entire thing on IPads. Not even plain black ones, there's one with a silver glitter case, a purple case, a red case.... It was a wedding, for Pete's sake, it's not like there wouldn't be a million pictures available for those who didn't own a single other photo taking device.

This thread really has little to do with theme parks attractions and strategies, so I've moved it to the Theme Parks Community board. :)

I feel your pain. The last time we saw Christmas Wishes, I mostly saw a sea of ipads. It is so crowded, so there is not a place to move for a better view. Unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done about it. People only become more inconsiderate as the days go on, not the other way around.

And of course, it's not like people who intend to hoist an ipad (or child) overhead wear a sign saying that's their intention. They do it at the last minute as the show is starting when there is nowhere else for you to move.
