I hate ipads!!

As I have said in prior threads on this topic, I don't care one whit what someone wants to carry around the parks with them. Heck, they can pack up their entire desktop computer, keypad and printer and carry it around the parks for all I care.

But the very minute they hoist it up above their head and block my view, I care. (I also care when they hoist their kid up on their shoulders at the last minute.) It's rude and considers only what benefits them. I have seen this more and more and school functions (talent shows, awards assemblies and such). I'm amazed at just how many people sit behind them and just take it. I would be tapping them on the shoulder and reminding them that there are indeed people behind them who want to see too.

I was surprised when I called my local arena last week to check out their camera policy. They actually specified no tablet devices over 7" and that it can't be discracting to other guests. That's a start I guess.

It boils down to respect for other's space and it's been going on for years. It was video cameras "way back when" and then it was someone beside you or in front of you sticking their arms and camera out to get a better (?) view. Or someone cramming in front of you when you've been patiently waiting for a parade, etc. Or someone -- as noted earlier -- who puts their child on their shoulders.
We were at MK one evening and didn't quite get back to Main St. nearer the entrance and got trapped by the parade. And at that time the CMs wouldn't allow you to cut back or through any of the areas that were closed. We were at least 18 ft. back from Main St. (and the parade) and could only see the tops of the floats, but people were picking up their kids and putting them on their shoulders....... I hope the kids had a good view because no one else did. And we literally couldn't move.
Believe me, it never happened again after that. It was probably the last night time parade we watched at MK. Limited our evening watching activities to EPCOT.
And we have NEVER stuck our camera in front of someone else while trying to get the perfect picture.
It wouldn't matter the type of equipment being used, there will always be people who think it's A-okay to do that.
:confused3

True but I'd much rather deal with being blocked by a child. Atleast in my mind, I'm like 'ok I want to see this BUT I'd rather a child see it" not a phone seeing it blocking my view.. Rude!

I'm fairly sure if someone is using an iPad to record video or take photos, they're using it because they don't have an alternative. No one who owns an iPhone AND an iPad would think the iPad is giving you higher quality stuff.

The part where you assume the person owns an iPhone or suggests they go buy one. It's a tad presumptuous.

Ok, then until you own something much smaller than an IPad, don't "presume" it's okay to ruin everyone's experience around you by holding it up and completely blocking their view. IT'S NOT OKAY. And I love my iPad and my iPhone both. But don't bring something so freakin big to the parks, it just serves to annoy everyone.

You know you don't have to use the iPad to do that, you can use a small iPhone and transfer it to the iPad later? You've got to understand, that it is completely ruining the experience of the parade or show for the people behind you, please reconsider using something much smaller so they can enjoy it too?

I have NEVER completely ruined someone's experience by BRIEFLY (15-20 seconds) video taping or taking a picture now and then with an iPad. As I stated, I make a very real effort to be considerate of other guests. We sit in the disabled section for the rare occasion we do see MSEP and have not video taped in dark shows or hold the iPad above my head. The iPad is my daughter's communication device and is with us at all times.

I LOVE the idea of cheering on the parade! :rotfl2:

Also, I don't own an ipad because, to me, they are too expensive. But if I did, I wouldn't carry it around the parks and risk ruining it. Not when they cost so much. I don't get that. :confused3

But how do you not hold it up, to video? Even if people aren't directly behind you, I can assure you there are people around you that it is bothering. I understand the need to obtain these videos, but can't you use anything smaller so it doesn't bother people trying to enjoy the parade or show?

It boils down to being considerate of others around you. This has come up at least once before. I don't care what folks take pictures/video with, as long as they pay attention to those around them. You can get in the way with a tiny Cannon Elf. Do what you want. Just remember there are others around you trying to enjoy the same thing you are looking at.

It seems like an iPad is pretty high-end. I'd be surprised if iPod owners don't also have smaller devices that could record a parade. But you have a point, then why carry an iPad around the parks if you have something smaller that could do it. Personally, I don't own one, but if I did, there is no way I'd hold it up in a crowd like that and risk it getting hit by someone or something. Those things are expensive!

Then this doesn't apply to you..

The only time I have video taped a parade was MSEP, I was sitting on the low rocky ledge (disabled area across from the Hall of Presidents) with my daughters wheelchair in front of me. No one was behind us. My husband was sitting next to me. The family sitting on the other side, in wheelchairs, had a video camera on a tripod and was taping the whole parade. We both chatted with each other and made sure we were not obscuring the view for anyone. I did not video tape the whole parade. I made two 20 second videos, that is all! If that really bothered someone or ruined their parade experience I am sorry. Intolerance can also ruin an experience for people, I can assure that it does.

Bring an EMP pulse emitter.... Of course you will disable all the parade electronics too.
Maybe a sonic screwdriver.....

Is it me or is this and "foreign visitor" thing. Seems when i see this its folks visiting from out of country?

We seem to be more into iphones for this...or gigantic 5000 cameras.

I don't think it is a foreign visitor thing. As a pp mentioned, I too have seen it more and more at school functions. At my DD music performance, the person sitting right in front of me held one up to record a song.

I hate it too! It is my biggest park pet peeve. For some reason, it is more distracting than any of the other anoying things people do at a parade. I just can't seem to look around it.

There are plenty of people and families who splurge on an iPad who don't own other Apple products or a really good smartphone. I have both an iPad and iPhone and anyone who does knows that for video and photos, the iPad is the inferior product. That's why I really think that a lot of people who use it a recording device are using it because it's the best they have.

As far as someone taking a 30 second video qualifying as "ruining the experience" for others, I think that's a tad over reactive and dramatic.

I didn't understand the many iPads I saw recording and taking pictures on our trip last September. We do have an iPad, it stays in a Lifeproof case, but I still wouldn't risk taking it into the parks with me.

I can understand the person who HAS to use it for their daughter with autism, that is a completely different ballgame. But to walk and record your journey through MK just because...that I don't understand.

I'm not saying I care if somebody takes pictures or video but the video is annoying because the person is not only getting to enjoy the show.. While recording it,so it can be enjoyed later. They are blocking me from enjoying the show. So this person gets two chances to enjoy it and all I get is a memory of an iPad blocking my view. Just like its some of these people 1st time and maybe only time, it's like that for many others. Just be considerate.

Before I got an iPhone, my free junky smartphone took decent videos. In fact that's the only thing it did right :rotfl: I had to get rid of it when it stopped receiving phone calls. I'm pretty sure an iPod Touch can record videos, too.

I don't think anybody's talking about 30 second clips. I have all sorts of clips from wdw but I make sure it's not a distraction. I turn my brightness all the way down and in front of me (iPhone) so others are not to be distracted
