I'm sure there are people here on both sides of the fence about these things. DD and I just got back from running a few errands and encountered about a 1/2 dozen kids with these things on. A few weren't too bad with them but the others were just down right annoying and dangerous. Since when did Target or Wegmans become an indoor skating rink?!!!! They must have annoyed other shoppers in Wegmans because there was an announcement about them being banned from the store.

I feel better now, we'll return to our regularly scheduled programs :happytv: .

If this is anything like it was on the Theme Parks board, all I can say is...

Here we go... popcorn::

I don't like them either. They aren't supposed to be very good for kids ankles - I heard they are causing many injuries.

What? You don't think it is cute and adorable to be forced into a rousing game of Roller Derby at JcPenney's?

Well aren't you the grouchy one! :rotfl2:

:confused3 I dont understand since they are banned from most malls, stores etc, why parents think these shoes are okay? :confused3 I was at the Dollar store earlier and a lady walked in with 5 kids and they all had them on. I overheard the clerks ask the kids numerous time to please not skate in the store. :confused3

ETA: I meant since skates, skateboards, bikes are banned from malls and such, why do parents think these skate shoes are acceptable :confused3 :confused3

I have to agree. I can't understand why rolling around with very little control is OK to do in a crowded relatively confined space. :confused3 I can see them being fun when used in a less crowded more open space but why a place like Target or the grocery store? Plus, I would have to think that they are a liability for the store. What if the child crashes into something and gets hurt, or hurts someone else? My 7 year old dd is begging for these and my dh and I keep telling her no, which of course makes us the meanest parents in the whole world. But such is life.

I can't stand them, either. My store is not a safe place to use them, yet parents seem to think that they're okay.

My DS keeps nagging me for them, but when I point out that he can't use them on our carpeted floors, that he can't use them at school and I wouldn't let him use them at a store/mall, he gets mad. Then I told him he could have a set of rollerblades instead, but that wasn't nearly as cool.

I have no problem with kids wearing them outside and playing whatever. But in a grocery store?? Parents tell me why do you let your kids wear these in a crowded grocery store?? All I hear is oooooo my child doesn't roll in stores with them on so we allow them to wear them......Um yeah right as soon as your back is turned there goes your kid wheeling down the aisle and yes I have seen it many times.

I kid you not when I say that I saw a kid wheel into church on Sunday - right down the aisle and everything as the opening singing was going on. I remember thinking how mortified his mom was going to be when he wheeled up next to her!

I agree and said the same thing in another thread. It didn't go over well. There were many parents who post here thinking they were just fine. :confused3

I can't stand them either! I mean I assume most parents won't let their kids wear skates/rollerblades in the house. So why is it OK to let these kids wear these skate shoes to school, malls, restaurants etc?

I can think of no reason why/when these shoes are appropriate to wear. I mean if they want to skate, wear rollarblades!

Not a parent yet, but I hope these Heely's aren't popular when we have kids. If they are I hope this is a battle that we'll win!

I only hate them because I invented something similar to them but never patented it

can't wear um period at our school (even if you keep the wheels retracted)-the things are so heavy they've had an accidental kick to the shin (during soccer and such) result in very bad injuries.

I hate them because my son wants them and I don't want him to have them. The commercial is going to make me lose my mind!!

One day I will give in to temptation, stick my leg in front of your kid on heelys and send them flying......

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Believe me I've been tempted more than once. Today one of them almost ran into my DD - luckily of him he didn't ;) .

I hate those things. It blows my mind that parents buy them for kids.
Careful though, Heely's are the new taking your kid out of school for WDW.

I have never considered an inanimate object to be obnoxious until I discovered "Heelies."
