I Hate Fireworks!!!

It's been a very calm few weeks leading up to the 4th, no fireworks AT ALL!!! I guess all the neighborhood pyro's took the county ban serious. I haven't even seen anybody going into the firework stores.

I am sure though, that now with the 4th over, they will start hitting the stores to stock up on their supplies, at a discount, for when the ban is lifted and we will be delighted with nightly shows.

And now that we have moved, we won't get the New Years Eve show that we have enjoyed for the last 10 years. Someone in the addition next to where we lived, always did a huge display on NYE. No matter how much snow was on the ground or how bitter cold out it was, they were out there setting them off at midnight.

We live across the street from Magic Kingdom cast member parking so nightly fireworks are a part of life for us and our cats. But I definitely could understand the annoyance if you are not used to the sounds.

People in our complex set off extra fireworks on NYE and 4th of July and it annoys the piss out of me!

Never had an issue with them. Loved them every since I was a kid.

None of my pets(2 cats or dog) are frightened by them. And my kids absolutely love them! The louder and brighter the better for them! And they've felt that way since they were teeny. They were never frightened either.

We have neighbors three blocks behind us who do amazing displays on the third and fourth, so we don't even bother going to the intensely crowded local display. We just stand in the playset in the back yard and watch them erupt from beyond.

In my area, fireworks that shoot and go boom, just became legal this year. Thus, people are going crazy. I don't mind them, but my huge dog does. What I don't like is them going off at 2am. A normal time, like 10-1130 is fine, but not 2am.

No kidding. I would have been ok if they'd stopped before 10... but no, it went on until 2am. AND we called 311 since it's illegal in the city (and 5000 ft outside the city limits). Not to mention there is STILL a drought. They were waking up both kids and us all night. Not to mention the poor dogs.

:thumbsup2

I usually drug my dog with tranquilizers from the vet for 4th of July-it makes him sleep the night away and me happy cause he is not bugging me. I don't mind fireworks at all, I like the ones that make your whole house shake! But after a friend blowing off his arm 2 years ago with them I personally do not light any myself anymore.

You can't exactly do that with a 2 year old child though.

Thank you. I thought I would look like a huge party pooper admitting I hate them.

I don't mind the professional displays, but I won't go out of my way to watch them.

Having small kids, I do mind when neighbors set them off at all hours of the night. I suppose everyone must have off this week (except me), because people were setting them off last night at midnight. I know my neighbor spends upwards of $400 on them every year, so I expect it'll be the same for the rest of the week.

I know it is wrong, but if these people accidentally blew off a few fingers, I wouldn't feel bad.

Ugh. I totally feel your pain... and I must be a huge party pooper too. On NYE this year, I was so relieved when the crotchety lady next door ran out of her house fist shaking at about 11pm and yelled at people to cut it out or she was calling the cops. They stopped, but it was people actually on our street doing it. Last night the people shooting them were only around us and the 311 operator wanted an address... we were like... um, well here's ours.. come drive around the neighborhood and you can probably find 8-9 violators... at $500 a pop that's a nice fundraiser for the APD. :lmao:

I love fireworks but wish my neighbors wouldn't shoot them off as my bunny rabbit is deathly afraid of the noise. Also we live in a very wooded area, fire hazard much?

They are just so stupid! They scare the kitties and the baby and they are so pointless!!!

I don't mind designated times and areas, like 4th of July festivities or Disney but when they go off randomly in your neighborhood I can't stand it. :sad2:

OH I am right there with you. Last New Year's Eve kids on the street behind us set off fireworks for HOURS. And they did it intermittently on the 2 nights before that. OMG our poor Onslow was a complete wreck, would not stop shaking or leave my lap, and he is NOT a lap doggie. I wanted to throttle them:mad:

Fireworks are illegal where I lie. But yet every year people in the apartments behind me set them off. They didn't do too much so maybe cops caught them. Sorry I sont want fireworks to come into my yard or near my house and start a fire. Local news had a storu today about a nearby city having 2 house fires due to them luckily no one died.

It's one day a year that people illegally set them off, what's the harm? I can imagine you disliking the people who do it but saying you hate fireworks altogether is an absurd statement.

Why is it absurd to hate fireworks?

And in my neighborhood, its NOT 1 day a year, its New Years, the 4th of July, anytime somebody wants to show off to their idiot friends...... get the picture?

As for what's the harm? Fortunately most of hte time there isn't any, but in untrained hands the potential for injuries and fires is HUGE.

You've heard of Newton's Law right? What goes up must come down? This stuff comes down on fire.

Here, it's not one night a year. It's the weekend before July 4, and July 4, and the weekend after, and NYE and days after NYE......

Here we have a burn ban and a personal fireworks ban because of severe drought issues, yet the people in my neighborhood were still at it yesterday, not just ignoring the bans that make them illegal, but also going way past the noise ordinance. Finally at 2am I called the police and they said they had been out in our neighborhood twice already to give out warnings :sad2: and would be back to issue citations.

I love professional displays but I hate fireworks in the hands of the idiots who set them off illegally. The weeks around the Fourth of July and New Years and then a few random times throughout the year, we get people setting them off all night. This year we even had a few geniuses setting them off during the daylight. It is bad enough most of the time, but this year they have started several fires because it is so dry. One house burned down because of morons who were setting off fireworks! I haven't heard whether it was the morons' own house or someone else's home. I imagine there are exceptions somewhere, but of the people I know who set off illegal fireworks, none of them are exactly rocket scientists. They aren't the sort of people who ought to be trusted with anything that explodes.

I can handle them on the 4th, I've come to expect that. What I don't understand is the desire to set them off on a weeknight at 11:30 pm. Be considerate, people do have to work early in the morning. And, it not just the kids, it's grown adults.

On a side note. My husband worked the 12-7am shift July 5th at ECMC (our community hospital) and over 10 pple ranging from 12-52 yrs old were treated with injuries due to fireworks. One person had two fingers blown off. Yeah, I'm sure he thought he was being safe but he was not trained in explosives. Heck, you don't even see the professionals maually lighting the fireworks. It's done by electrical wiring.
