I feel SICK! Please tell me this is a glitch and our trip is not gone!!

If you are not a member, I don't know how you can get into the DVCmember web site to check a reservation. Is that possible?

I do know, from experience, that if you enter a DVC reservation # into the regular WDW site it will often come back with some kind of not found error. For example, if you try to book ADRs linked to your reservation, it seems to be hit or miss unless you go through the DVCmember site.

So what exactly did the OP try that gave her that scary message?

As to not reaching the DVC members -- people do go on extended vacations without internet access. If they went abroad and they have domestic-only cell phones, they would not be reachable.

The OP did not say how she checked on the reservation. Based on the response she said she received, I also wonder if she used the correct link for DVC reservations. She definitely needs to use the one Chuck S posted earlier in this thread (which is the one I posted above).

The response she got is not one I've previously seen or heard about from the DVC link, but that doesn't mean she didn't get it from there.

We'll have too see if she responds later with more info. At this point, we don't even know if she rented using the DIS R/T Forum.

You can check on your reservation through the online check-in link for DVC reservations. Outside of 10-days it only gives you the details, not the option to check-in. That link is:

Thank you guys so much for the thoughts. I have been going crazy all day b/c our net has been out. I was not able to look up the number to even call them yet. I just came here to read first and was actually hoping somebody has posted a link to check the reservation as I was worried maybe the one I went through was not correct.

Yes, I did rent from a member here on the r/t forum. I won't give out the name though as I don't want to make them look bad if this is nothing at all. I would never want to do that to anyone.

I did use paypal but this was back in April and I paid them marked as a gift so I doubt they would be of any help to me right now. :(

I called to check since the website is down and of course they would not confirm anything since I am not a dvc member.

I wanted to be able to check again and hopefully be able to pull it up to be sure before I called them today as I don't want to sound accusing or anything. Like I said, everything has been totally fine before now and the person seems very reliable and as far as I know has been renting points for a long time.

As far as the change it was just checking on the view as it was marked garden view instead of boardwalk view and we had requested boardwalk. They said they booked it as boardwalk and were not sure why it was showing as garden so they were just checking on it for me.

I am not on any wait list or anything like that.

I kept wondering if maybe I was going through the wrong link but I don't know what else to do since the link you all posted does not want to come up for me now either. Well, the phone call only led me to a work cell phone so it looks like I will have to wait till Monday to get in touch with them unless they will answer the emails today. I don't know what else to do. This is so stressful. :sad1:

That's problematic then. I would certainly try to reach the folks you rented from, but if you can't in the next day, report them to the site admins. You may also want to click on their profile to see if they're still active on the site or not.

You may also be able to report them through paypal as having not received the item paid for to see what happens.

I know the site rules prevent us from disclosing user names, but in these cases it seems fair to know who is dishonest if it turns out to be true.

I just tried this link as a test and it works fine. I cancelled a reservation yesterday and put that info in and it came back and said the reservation was cancelled. Then I put in a reservation for Oct/Nov and it came back as a reservation that exists and is good.

OP, I hope this turns out for you and your family. It makes me sick to think that there are people who do this to others! Best wishes.
 
OK it is hard for me to tell you to calm down.. because I know I would be flipping out.

First thing tomorrow morning.. you call and email the people you rented from until you reach them. I would call all day and night. I would call disney and get to the bottom of it as well.. find out when it was cancelled by whom etc. Wouldnt your name be on the reservation.. so only you could cancel it? We own in DVC and Im not familiar with how renting the points works.

I seriously hope from the bottom of my heart that these people did not steal your money and I hope and pray that this a glitch in the system. And in the morning all will be well.

Disney will do nothing in this situation. It is a private transaction that does not involve them.

This is correct, only the member can contact member services about the reservation. Disney will not get involved in a transaction between two private individuals.

I am not sure what number you called to get the recording about it being cancelled...or was it online? What change did you ask to be made? If it was something like view or resort or several other changes, it is possible that the original reservation number was cancelled and a new number generated, thus the message. There are a number of possibilities here and I would just try to contact the person you rented from tomorrow. Don't be pushy or panicked, but listen to what they say and you might want to ask that they three way with member services to confirm the reservation if it will make you feel better.

Not wanting you to panic or anything but a three way phone call will mean nothing as the third person could be anyone.

Yes, I was just going to post that. That's the one good sign: changing from garden to boardwalk would definitely result in a new reservation number, IIRC.
 
Exactly: if the original reservation was mistakenly made Preferred/Garden, changing it to Preferred/Boardwalk would require a cancellation and rebooking---and that generates a new reservation number.

As I said, I know how hard it is to be patient in this situation, but try to keep your chin up! Chances are very good that the right thing happened---it nearly always does!

I do know when we changed our original dates to move them ahead one week so we could add a day we kept the same reservation number. They said it would not change. I have the original conf letter they sent and then the second one where it shows modified but still the same reservation #. I contacted them back in late May about the view showing wrong and was told they would get it fixed and forward me the new letter. When the new letter came it still showed garden view with the same reservation #. I have not heard anything from them since then so I have no idea what is going on now.

Who suggested that the payment be flagged as a gift?

I know you mentioned that the phone number you have is a work number and can't get them until tomorrow but in the meantime I would be calling paypal to review what options you may actually have rather than assuming you have none.

Have you looked at their disboards profile, have they been posting lately?

If the last printed confirmation you got was still wrong, then hopefully it means that the person had to get it switched to the correct view and that MS needed to change the # in order to do it.

This sounds exactly like what happened to a poster named 'Rachel' recently. I so hope you haven't been ripped off. We used our points to make a ressie for my DSIL and the ressie is in their name but I think only DH and I can make changes since we are the DVC owners. Please post again and let us all know how this works out. I'm nervous for you.
It does sound exactly like that. I'd have hoped that Disney would be proactive given the other incident though. I'd also contact one of the moderators or a webmaster if they have the DIS member name, which had been suspended IIRC. If it's the same one, I'd suspect the OP is out of luck unless they paid in a method they could cancel and get money back outside of relying on the member themselves.

As other's said the little change you referred to is actually a different booking category so if they did get it changed the reservation number would have changed also.

Hopefully you can reach them soon and put your mind at ease. :hug:
