I feel SICK! Please tell me this is a glitch and our trip is not gone!!

Wow, I just read through the other thread and it does sound very much the same. :( I am guessing that it is not the same person though as she talked to a woman and the person I dealt with was a man. I know we are not allowed to post about names and such so I won't email and ask her but maybe a mod could let me know just to be sure.

I do have a message sent to the person on here through pm and we will see if that does anything. They are "fairly" active on the boards posting about once to twice a month so I really hope this will reach them.

I am seriously so bummed today that I can't seem to get much done. All I have done for the last month is planned planned planned. I have been tweaking dining reservations, signing the kids up for the YES program classes, checking park hours, etc. I just can't believe this is happening. :headache:

I am holding out so much hope that you guys are right and the person ended up being able to change my view selection and has just not informed me yet for some reason so it has changed the reservation #. I seriously have no other reasons not to trust them so this would really come out of nowhere for me. I tell you though, it is a horrible thing to experience on your first time renting from somebody. We have wanted to stay at BW for YEARS and I was more looking forward to that than anything. If we have lost it (and I see that it looks pretty booked up now for our week) and can't get it back then I am going to be so very upset. I mean, of all teh scams in the world, why would ANYONE choose this? To take money from a family who is trying their best to book a nice trip for themselves and their small children?? Who does that?? I am not saying my renter did this to us but in general for anyone who has had this happen. It is terrible! :sad2:
 
If it helps, I think the waitlist for the Boardwalk view came through. As others have posted, this would definitely change the reservation number.

I predict all will be fine. Since it takes 7 - 10 business days for the paper confirmation letter to arrive, your owner may not even know the change has taken place. He probably doesn't check the website every day like some of the rest of us. ;)

It may ease your mind to PM the name to WebmasterDoc. He'll know if it's the same person as in the other thread, but I really don't think that it is.

Wonderful news! This is EXACTLY what happened! They just sent me an email. They had done a wait-list for Boardwalk view and I had no idea. It came through on the 12th and they were not notified so they just checked it and sent me the info.

I can not tell you guys how much better I feel right now. This scared me to death...lol I can not imagine this actually happening to somebody and them really loosing their vacation. :(

On a not so good note- I guess the renter was quite upset with me for posting on the dis and a webmaster contacting them to ask about it which I feel SO BAD about. I guess I should not jump to conclusions and open my big mouth so fast. I hope they will forgive me for posting. I did not give their name to ANYONE but a webmaster so I do hope they are not too upset with me.

Excellent! Glad to hear it worked out. Point the renter to this thread so they can see how worried you were. Hopefully they will understand the panic you felt and why you tried to get help fron all of us on what you could do.

The owner has every right to be upset...with himself...for not replying to any of the 3 emails you've sent him over the last month!

There is no reason whatever for you to feel bad about reaching out to others on the DIS or for the Webmaster contacting him on your behalf. You did nothing wrong. Quite to the contrary an informed renter, like you, is a good renter as far as I'm concerned. If anything he should hope you forgive him for putting you through this. Fact is this easily could have been avoidded if he had been paying attention to his rental.

I'm happy things worked out and all is well. Have a great vacation.

To be a bit more fair to the owner - the waitlist came thru on the 12th - I calculate that as 3 days ago if I'm understanding the information correctly. Perhaps I'm not but gosh, if it is, they could have been gone for a long weekend.

I'm glad that things were fine OP and hope you enjoy your trip.

The fear and torment you went through is why we OWN DVC. I sleep well every night knowing my vacation plans are under my control!

I agree with this...i have rented out my points through these boards several times and Iam ALWAYS contactable within hours if the renter has any questions. Either through my email that I always check several times a day anyway,,or through pm at the dis..Iam on here several times a day too:)..or even through my home phone number.

There is no excuse to ignore 3 emails over a month...I would be livid.

Unfortunately, when someone goes a long period of time without answering emails it does raise concerns, especially when you are dealing with someone you don't really know. Most of us would begin to worry at that point.

Renting a reservation to someone doesn't come with a requirement that you check your email. Some people only use email when they have to and since the member wasn't expecting the renter to contact them why would they check?

It's a shame that people are so quick to assume the negative about someone that they don't really even know. :sad2:

Right, wrong or indifferent - checking on your reservation and seeing "reservation canceled" is reason for alarm. And, while the person the points were rented from likely didn't know the wait list came through or that the reservation had been changed - some response to any of the attempts to reach them would have solved for all of this.

I'm not defending either party - but interesting that once the board's Admin. got involved they were immedaitely available :confused3

I have to admit, had I rented points and seen my reservation canceled and not been able to reach the party I rented from for over a month, I too would have contacted the administrator's of the board.
 
Just wanted to say that I'm glad it was just a misunderstanding. I started reading the thread thinking, oh no not another scam!!

According to the OP post, they didn't try to contact the member by phone, only by email.

The DIS Mods have nothing to do with a private transaction between two parties, just like Disney doesn't. The fact that the member responded after a alleged contact might be just a coincidence.
