Well said!
I maintain the
DVC faq for Deb Wills' site (
www.wdwig.com/dvc.htm) and I get questions about this at least once a week. Last week while we were at the OKW, I made a point to ask why the guides were stating that it was okay to put five in a 1-br when MS will tell you otherwise. I asked the guide who ran the Member Update at the OKW and also the guide showing the BCV models at the BW. One of them mentioned the "heated debates" about this subject on the DIS boards.
Both responses were almost identical - there is no "official" policy. Both said yes, fire laws require that there are beds for all those staying in a resort room. However, once you pay to stay, be it with points or with cash, it is totally up to you what you do with your reservation. You have, in a sense, purchased that room for your stay.
Both guides also said that they would hope consideration and good judgement would prevail and people wouldn't try to put five fully grown adults in such a small area. If a family is traveling with two adults and 3 children, and one child wants to sleep in a sleeping bag or on an air mattress, they have no problem with this. Actually, from our conversations, I don't think they'd have a problem with the five adults as long as they were considerate to their neighbors.
One guide suggested making the reservation for four people, since you can only get four room keys anyway. The other mentioned that Member Services needed to be "spoken with" on how they sometimes make a guest feel guilty for even asking about five per room.
Not trying to start another of those "heated debates" - just passing along what I heard.
