I went early this morning to get a few things but also to exchange a pair of reading glasses that I got a couple of days before.
I don't know how your stores handle returns, but in our store you go in with the merchandise and right at the door the walmart employee places a pink sticker and directs you to customer service. Usually I don't have a problem but today I wanted to exchange so I asked if I could go into the store and get the replacement so that I only had to stand on the line once. I was told no by two different employees , so I told them take off the pink sticker because I am going to get the replacement in the store, instead they gave me the happy face sticker. I remind you that I had my receipt with me.
Then I do all my shopping , go to the deli and take my number. They call my number and this other woman comes out of nowhere and says , I'm next , but I didn't take a number , and they just go ahead and start waiting on her. Normally I wouldn't have a problem with that if they asked me if I mind them serving her first , but the fact that she didn't get a number and the fact that they didn't even ask, really ticked me off. Between that and the glasses incident , I left the deli without making my purchase.
The cashier ( someone I know ) called the store manager on duty and when I told him what had happened , he told me that I was wasting my time and his time , but I can waste an hour of my time to exchange something , because they have only one person working customer service and there are 6-8 people on the line no matter when you go.
I think I would rather drive a longer distance before going back to our local walmart.

Thats a shame, they sound like they don't care about their Customers.....call the Corporate Office, that will show them they need to re-vamp!::yes::

I've been unhappy with them near me also. The first time, I used my debit card and wanted cash back. The cashier closed the drawer without giving me the money. Then she said I had to wait until her drawer opened after the next sale. Well, the lady behind me had one of those rolling things with garden furniture, pool stuff, etc. :earseek: So we stood there waiting, and waiting, and waiting, and WAITING! I made sure to "remind" her when the drawer opened.

The next time I was in, I needed cash to give a guy a tip putting furniture together. The cashier had only 20s, one five, and a bunch of singles in her drawer. I was looking for 2 tens or tens and fives. She sent me to customer service. Same story...can't give you change until the drawer opens. STINKY POLICY!!! When I worked in retail, there was a "No Sale" button! Sure, you had to account for why you used it, but your customers didn't stand there waiting with steam coming out their ears!!

the manager said you were wasting his time...???

was he the highest ranking manager or just the manager on duty...I'd go over his head whether it be in the store or contacting corporate...even if he thought you were wasting his time he never should have stated that to a customer..

They call my number and this other woman comes out of nowhere and says , I'm next , but I didn't take a number ,
I'm very patient, but in this case, I would have said "No, if you don't have the number they just called, then you are not next". Had she asked, it would have been different and I probably would have said "Sure, go ahead". Once she realized that she needed a number, she should have taken one even if it meant a longer wait for her.

That is exactly what ticked me off , that she said she didn't take a number, and you know what? I don't know how long she had been there because I had taken my number 1-2 minutes before, not longer than that. You would figure she would think she needs a number when she sees employees are calling numbers?
I did call the corporate offices and they said they will look into this and someone would call me back in a couple of days, and they agreed that both situations were unacceptable but of course, do you think the manager is going to say he told me I was wasting his time? I don't think so.

the deli probably new very well that she had to get a number. Didn't she hear numbers being called? Some people!!

you know your not aloud to breast feed there either, that could be the only bright spot of going shopping

I just don't get why so many people like Walmart so much. I think it's a horrible store and since the death of Sam Walton, the prices aren't good at all. Compare prices at both Walmart and Target sometime! Walmart wanted $1.20 more for a stupid deodorant stick than Target once when my friend was buying it. It was the only thing at Target she wanted and she didn't want to stand in line for just that. She LOVES Walmart so we had to go there too. She ended up paying more for it at Walmart! :p Taught her a lesson! I think Walmart's business practices suck too! I only go into that store if I'm looking for something specific and I was unable to find it elsewhere.

Ugh! I HATE Walmart....In fact, I havent been in a Walmart since December of last year. Its the worst store EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!

The service is awful, the quality of product is questionable, the atmosphere is horrible! I hate everything about Walmart!

I encourage everyone I know to shop local buisnesses, not walmart. support your hometown grocery stores and shops. I avoid Walmart at all costs!

Sorry you had a bad experience, i reccommend you avoid all walmarts and shop elsewhere!

The bathrooms there are a health hazard! Try finding someone who speaks English (sorry, that's my language, seems they speak everything but!).

Here's my WalMart story:

This happened at a WalMart in Nevada about 4 years ago. Needless to say, I haven't shopped at a WalMart since then unless absolutely necessary. I was shopping with my two children (twins) who were then about two years old. I had both children in the basket. I bought $149 worth of stuff. Upon leaving, I was approached by a nasty employee who demanded my receipt. Well, I always put my receipt in my purse rather than leave it in the bag. I pulled out another receipt from another trip. She quite rudely informed me it was for another date, then, without my permission, proceeded to dig through my bags looking for the receipt. I asked what she was doing and she said she was looking for the receipt. I told her I had put it in my purse, it wasn't in the bags, and to stop digging through my property without my permission. She just continued looking through all my bags. I finally found my receipt, but she wasn't interested in it by then. My two year old son was playing with a pair of shoes we'd just bought. They were packaged in a clear backpack, which had the tag on it. He had taken the shoes out of the backpack. The "lady" yanked the shoes out of my son's hands and asked in a loud voice "how could you have paid for these? They don't have a tag!" My son started crying. I explained that the tag wasn't on the shoes, it was on the backpack, which I showed her. I also showed her the receipt, which didn't say 'shoes' it was something like 'children's novelities'. She shouted at me that that was something else, not for the shoes. I then told her to go and get another of that item (they could find it by its bar code) and see that it was a backpack with shoes in it. Well, she was no longer interested in that. She had by then torn open my pharmacy bag, which had 100 Tylenol #3. A legal perscription, filled at their pharmacy. She continued in her loudmouth "Wow! That sure is a lot of dope! I think our pharmacy should call your dr to make sure this isn't a forged perscription!" That perscription happened to be a refill, I'd had the same perscription filled there many times. Well, by then, I was so befudilled I didn't know what to do. Did she want my receipt, which I had produced? Did she still think I had stolen the shoes, which she didn't bother to check out? Or did she now think I was making illegal drug purchases? However, the last straw was when she jerked my dd's sippy cup out of her hands and asked "did you pay for this?" It wasn't even their merchandise (I'd bought it at Target) and was obviously not new, chewed on, part of the design rubbed off. At that point I lost it. I told her if she valued her hands they would not come any where near my children again. I then told her she was just an employee there, not a law enforcement official, and had no right to detain me. I told her I was walking out, and if she so much as layed a hand on me or my children I was calling the police! I left and haven't shopped at a WalMart since. Oh, yes, I did complain to the store manager and corporate headquarters. However, I never heard from corporate hq, and the store just sent back a letter to the effect that random searches were done to keep shoplifting down, etc. etc. Well, when two-year old children are suspects, its time to shop elsewhere. BTW, their meat is packed in Iowa and shipped all over the country. They put a red dye in it so it wont "show its age". Everyone's choice whether they want to shop at WalMart!

We call the Walmart here "Little Mexico". My wife HATES Walmart with a passion. We drive an extra 14 miles just to shop at Target(that's also the closest mall with a Disney Store).

I once saw on a Dateline or some other news show, that it is not legal for them to demand a receipt from you. It is your property. You paid for it. Your story made me so angry! So sorry it had to happen to you.

Whenever they ask to see my receipt, I smile and say "No thank you" and keep walking. Nobody has ever stopped me. But if they did, I would tell them that they need to call the police if they want to search my property.

Coming into the holiday seasons we're going to again be confronted with something that is a little bit of a pet peeve of mine. I'm not sure if this is how things are in other countries but I'll tell you what they do in America. There are several companies now (Virgin, Circuit City, etc., etc.) that ask to see your receipt as you're leaving their store. At first this didn't bother me very much and I complied without even really thinking about it. But after a while it started getting on my nerves because my hands were full and I had already stuffed the receipt in my pocket or dropped it or whatever. So, as usual, out of anger I started asking myself what these ****ing thankless pork-eating monsters are doing asking me to prove anything to them, and have me standing in yet another small line to do it! Why should I be ritualistically accused of theft every time I leave their store, which is, in essence , what they are doing. They've invited you into their store to shop and then casually accuse you (and everybody else in the store) of theft as you leave. They even have signs saying things like ("We reserve the right to inspect all bags") near the door. Who gave them these rights? Exactly what "rights" are they even talking about? If I remember correctly it is us/we who have the right to tell them to go **** themselves unless it's the police and they had better have a search warrant or handcuffs on us (At least in America). If we're going to start making up rights then I reserve the "right" to shoplift. There are lots of rights I wouldn't mind assuming.

So I started just ignoring them as I walked by to see what would happen. They'll say things like, "Sir, Sir, I need to see your receipt" And I'll say things that vary anywhere from "No" to "**** Off" to "Let me see Your Search Warrant" to "Are You accusing Me of Stealing?". Any one of which immediately stops them in their tracks. I was onto something and I knew it. Normally I wouldn't do this sort of thing because I have little or nothing to say to these type people but I stopped and asked a security guard at the front of Circuit City on what grounds they felt like they had the right to ask people to prove they had made purchases as they were leaving. Get this: he told me they have none and they know it. That's why they won't usually pursue it unless they are certain that the person in question has actually stolen something. He said that most people don't mind being asked and they don't know they can say "No", so they comply. These are companies that are systematically insulting you while simultaneously begging for your business.

This procedure is becoming so common that if it ever does become a legal issue nobody will even mind giving these businesses the right to search you as you leave their establishments. So, in essence, it won't be long before these retail suppliers have invasive rights that cops didn't even have a few decades ago, and still shouldn't! Think about this. You will have to prove your innocence before leaving a store and you'll have to do so by giving up your rights to unlawful search and seizure (The 4th Amendment of The Constitution). That point hasn't come yet but it's not hard to see how far away it is...

  Is there something wrong with Mexico?

vhoffman, my jaw dropped reading your story. That is unbelievable. I can't believe the greeter manhandled your children. I wouldn't go back either. Wow!

I never much thought about showing my receipt as I left a store....I should know they really can't do that...I work in a store and even if we know that someone stole something we can't detain them until they are actually out of the store....and we need 2 people there (one as a witness).

I also hate Walmart....won't shop there at all due to their lack of customer service.

Wow these stories are awful. Here in England I shop at ASDA which has been bought out by walmart. When I visited the USA I thought the walmart would be like our ASDA at home. But boy was I wrong! Perhaps walmart needs to look at the ASDA company it bought out as they do a very good job. Our local ASDA (walmart) is excellent. The product range is great, the store is always clean and I have never seen a rude employer. I don't think I have ever been asked to show my receipt going out of our store.

And this was at WalMart??? They aren't even that stringent at Sam's Club, where they check every receipt, which I find a bit annoying, but a receipt check is probably part of the membership agreement. Usually when I'm done shopping I want to leave right then or I need to be somewhere.

I think as soon as I found the receipt I would have marched right over to the returns desk and returned everything I could -- minus the prescription, the children's novelty item or any toys for the kids -- and when they asked me why I would have told them I didn't appreciate being accosted like that.

Besides, WalMart usually has security cameras all over the place. I could see if they already thought you had stolen something and were going to confront you before leaving. What they did was inexcusable.

Nice to know the :D going in can easily become a

Unfortunately, Walmart is the only game in town for the moment. A Target is finally opening this month. I don't care if gas goes to $5.00 a gallon. I'll drive the 20 minutes it will take to get to Target as opposed to the 10 minutes it take me to get to Walmart.

On a recent trip to Walmart, I tried on a few items. I put everything back on the hangers and gave the lady who was monitoring the fitting rooms the items that I wasn't purchasing. She sighed. I really bit my tongue. Here she is re-hanging a bunch of stuff, I hung what I didn't want, and I get attitude.

Then I went to pick up my prescription. An elderly gentleman asked the two witches who were behind the counter where to find a vitamin. The one pointed to the display, which had an open ladder in front of it, and is telling him "go to the left of the ladder." A - an unattended ladder should never have been there and B - how about one of you knocking yourselves out and actually helping the old guy?? He asked them to let him know when he was close to the item. They looked at each other and rolled their eyes.

Target can't open soon enough for me.
