There are going to be Iraqi civilian casualties. The government is not denying it. Iraq is using human sheilds. Technology is not 100% perfect. I would love it if nobody (but Saddam and his sons) got killed in this war, but the truth is there will be losses on both sides. Yes, it's sad to see Iraqi citizens lying hurt in a hospital. Yes, it's sad to see Iraqi citizens mourning the loss of a loved one. But it hurts me even more to know that the Iraqi goverment has captured American soldiers and more than likely executed some of them, and it seems we have evidence that shows that other American POWS have been tortured.

For all of you who have loved ones involved in this war, my heart goes out to you. My brother has spent the last 20 years of his life dedicated to the Army and he is stationed at Ft. Bragg right now. He is working day and night to train people who are going to fight in the war and he is disappointed that he is not going to be there fighting along with them. My parents, my sister, my husband and I are all extremely grateful that for now he is still living safely in the USA.

It's sad when anyone is killed. Death is a part of war. But we are not intentionally targeting innocent people. Mistakes happen. We have even lost people "on our side" to friendly fire. I'm sure if an American soldier launched the missle that may have accidentally killed some innocent Iraqi people, that soldier must be feeling very sad.

I support our troops.

{{{HUGS}}} sweetie. Turn off the television. It sounds like you are on information overload.

I support our military too.

I agree, could not have said it better. I am glad there are good men out there doing the training. I bet it is hard for him to be here in the USA and not be there in the war (you know what I am trying to say). I support our troops also and all the men and women here that have families here. God Bless Them.

Its horrible, and it hurts. Big {{{Hug}}}
I just heard they seem to have evidence about torturing the female POWs. They found thier uniforms? I had to get away from it. Its killing me too.

Take a break from it for a bit.

It's nice to be able to engage in a war were there will be no major American casualties other than soldiers, isn't it? While I abhor the deaths of our servicemen more than you can ever know, ultimately that is what they signed up for. To fight for and possibly die in service to our country.

I wonder what the Iraqi people signed up for.

Innocent American civilians died because OBL had a hard-on for America. Now innocent Iraqis are dying cause GWB has a score to settle for his father. How does that make us any less reprehensible than El Qaeda?

I'm just glad we didn't wait until SH got a 'hard-on' for America also.

Death of anyone is sad. I feel for the innocent Iraqi people. But my heart aches for Americans--civilians or troops.

ripleysmom, do you honestly believe we are in Iraq because President Bush is trying to avenge something for his father? Well, I guess that is a stupid question, because obviously you do or you wouldn't have said it. I am totally dumbfounded by your statement, but luckily for you, you live in America, where you can say whatever you want about our President.

"ripleysmom, do you honestly believe we are in Iraq because President Bush is trying to avenge something for his father?"

Absolutely!! This war is not about oil, the Iraqi people or even WMD. This war is about revenge (and I ain't talking about from Saddam's side)!!

"Well, I guess that is a stupid question, because obviously you do or you wouldn't have said it."

You said it.....I didn't.

"I am totally dumbfounded by your statement"

And I am dumbfounded by people who actually buy that we are in there for the Iraqi people or because of 9/11, so I guess that makes us even.

"but luckily for you, you live in America, where you can say whatever you want about our President."

That's right I can and I will.

May I ask "revenge for what"?, because I honestly don't get it.

Finishing what his father couldn't finish?

Okay. Do you honestly believe that a man that has been ordered by the UN to disarm TWELVE YEARS ago and has refused to, while continually making more weapons of mass destruction should not be attacked?

This man makes torture machines for his people. He kills them without a second thought, and frankly gets pleasure out of it. Yet.. The hell with how bad Saddam Hussein is; because Bush sucks huh?

Take off the blinders and look at the WHOLE situation. If this was to finish his fathers war then we wouldn't have 40+ countries in our coalition. And 2/3's of the nation wouldn't be for it.

Unless you think the other 1/3 is apparently much smarter then the rest.

Don't forget the attempt on his father's life about 10 years ago.

What I want to know is when has Saddam threatened us in the past 12 years? When did he pull out those WMD to use on us during that time?

And hell if we are going to attack countries for torturing their people.....take your pick. What about China? What about Cuba? What about numerous South American countries?

I don't think anyone has forgotten that, as the anti-Bush crowd brings it up as the sole excuse for the war every chance they get. I think what most people want to see is the proof to back up such theories. Are there secret tapes that we haven't heard? Is there a document that has surfaced titled "I'm gonna get Saddam for what he did to my Dad"? I for one would like to know what the proof is.

The thing is that we (Americans) seem to care about the loss of life more that Saddam does. Our military goes out of it's way to try to avoid innocents from being killed, and I am throughly convinced that the attacks on the civillians weren't our mistakes, but an attack by Saddam's own military so that they could point the finger at us. As you know the western journalists are only allowed to venture out to sites inside Baghdad if they are escorted there, how convenient, so they aren't going to stumble on pieces of an Iraqi missile landing in a crowded marketplace. We need to support our troops, no matter what our personal opinions are.

Ah yes...the don't act until acted upon theory. That sure worked well for England and France before the start of WWII

http://www.insightmag.com/news/393153.html

Surely one of the most poignant regrets ever expressed was written in the late-1930s by one prominent French man of letters to another: "We should have gone to war at the end of 1935 [just before Hitler's occupation of the Rhineland], and we would have had 50 years of peace."

Yes, perhaps. But more importantly, Hitler would have been checked

Ooh...we trotted out Hitler....you know what they say about that.

I don't believe that an argument can be made that SH is the equivalent of Hitler especially in the light of the last 12 years. The man's teeth (in terms of a threat to the rest of the world) were removed. He certainly does not appear to have made any overt moves to take over the world during that time.

I think we are in there for bogus reasons.

I think it is a shame that American Military personnel are being made to put their lives on the line for Bush's ego.

Once again...where is the proof to support the above statement?

Well, I'm not sure if you read the article or not. It doesn't appear you did. I understand the connotation Hitler carries. I am not equating Saddam to Hitler. I'm equating the situation today in the Middle East, particularly with someone like Saddam in charge of Iraq, with Germany's actions during the 30's.

Care to explain what his move to Kuwait was? You really believe if we sat around and did nothing he would not have made another move? Or work to better fund and support other Middle-East despots and rouge leaders? That's the type of naivete that got Europe in trouble. But, I guess history means nothing to some people.

C'mon RM. You're smarter than that. At least take a position that containment would have worked. You buy the Grassy Knoll theory, too? How about Elvis still being alive?
