I am so sick of hearing it!

Maybe we should all remember that "his father" was a President of this country. It was not just an attempt to kill "his father," it was an attempt to kill a President. Whether that President happened to be Clinton, Bush or Regan. It was an assassination attempt. It just so happened to be his father who was the unlucky President. Does it make it a bit more personal? Of course. Any human would feel it stronger if it were a parent and not just a President that had an attempt made on his life. That doesn't mean he's over there for revenge. You just can't make that leap without more evidence.

"I can't believe people would think that a President of the United States of America would use the military and kill soldiers and civilians to get some kind of personal revenge."

I'll bet you can't believe that the President of the US would use the military and kill soldiers and civilians to get into a war either yet there are a lot of people that believe that Roosevelt allowed Pearl Harbor to be bombed in order to get us into WWII.

"I simply can't believe that he is that evil."

Not evil just stupid.

"I can't believe that enough people were duped by him to get him elected (somewhat)."

Neither can I.

"Plus, it's been almost a full term for Bush....wouldn't he have done something a bit earlier in his term?? You know....get in office, wait a few months, invent some reason to go over there and take out Saddam. Why the delay in getting revenge?"

Actually the Think Tank that betz referred to determined that the US would not be able to justify going after Saddam without some horrifying and cataclysmic event happening to galvanize the US. How convenient for them that they got their wish.

There are also people that believe martians landed in Roswell, and Elvis still lives. They're called nuts!

Where does it say at the think tank that they wished 9/11 to happen???

BSnyder, if you had actually checked the post by betz that I was referring to earlier in this thread you would have realized that I was not referring to the Think Tank Discussion Forum but rather the group that betz referred to which was this......

"Ok, while not 10 years ago, but this is the earlist I can find of plans to attack Iraq. William Kristol & Robert Kagan are in a 'think tank' that includes:
Elliott Abrams Gary Bauer William J. Bennett Jeb Bush
Dick Cheney Eliot A. Cohen Midge Decter Paula Dobriansky Steve Forbes..."

That is the think tank that I was referring to.

They wanted a horrific cataclysmic event to happen to shake everyone up so that they could justify going after Saddam.

I understood exactly which think tank you were talking about. Where in my post did I ever mention the Think Tank Discussion board?

Could you show me your evidence that "They wanted a horrific cataclysmic event to happen" ?

"There are also people that believe martians landed in Roswell, and Elvis still lives. They're called nuts!"

Amen to that Bsnyder!!! A conspiracy of that magnitude would include so many people there is no way it could stay secret... and if there were ANY plausible evidence the media would be on it like a duck on a bug......

Ripeysmom:

I respect your free opinion. Please make sure you voice your opinion in the voting booth. Isn't that the way the Iraqis do it???

Here is a link to an article that discusses the contents of their report bsnyder.

Laz, I also respect your right to have an opinion but will remind you that this war is not about the downtrodden Iraqi people no matter how Bush tried to wrap it up.....

As for my right to vote, apparently that doesn't count too much since the man with the most votes did not become president.

quote from Ripleysmom:

I was going to post this as well but you beat me to it!

We'll never know who got the "most votes" since they were never really counted. Get over it and move on. It happened almost 4 years ago. We still would have been attacked had Gore been President. The economy still would be in the crapper if Gore had been President. The only difference is we MAY (I'm not certain, of course) have dealt with it by sitting here on our hands waiting for them to hit us again.

And I also don't believe it's about the Iraqi people, nor do I care.

But, if you want to take the side of Saddam Hussein over George Bush, that's your decision. But, think of this: if the war was happening over HERE, do you think OUR military would be shooting us all and making us fight? Do you think OUR military would be hiding in civilian areas in order to make it look like the other side was killing us? Of course not. So, Gore or Bush or whomever else you think is this perfect being that should be ruling our country, be happy that you're here with him and not over there with Saddam. If you're not happy you're here instead of there, then maybe you should go over there and fight with them against Bush, the great conspirator....the evil ruler who goes around taking over countries in the name of avenging the attempt on his father's life. What a terrible people we are to even make it close enough for there to be an argument!

the man with the most votes did not become president.

And that's not the first time it's happened..............

And that's not the way the electoral system was devised............

yawn...........................................................................

Could you show me your evidence that "They wanted a horrific cataclysmic event to happen" ?

RM, I can't find anything in that article that even remotely implies that they WANTED a horrific cataclysmic event to happen.

"In open letters to Clinton and GOP congressional leaders the next year, the group called for "the removal of Saddam Hussein's regime from power" and a shift toward a more assertive U.S. policy in the Middle East, including the use of force if necessary to unseat Saddam.

And in a report just before the 2000 election that would bring Bush to power, the group predicted that the shift would come about slowly, unless there were "some catastrophic and catalyzing event, like a new Pearl Harbor."

If THIS is what you're referring to, you're way off base! This is merely stating their view of how events MIGHT unfold, not as what they WISH would happen! Give me a friggin' break!!!

This group has operated completely in the open, and within the traditional means that public policy groups in this country routintely work to influence government policy.

If someone sees a conspiracy in that, then I think they need a reality check and a remedial civics course!

For anyone is interested, here's an article from the New Yorker, that lays out the sequence of events in a much more rational, less paranoid fashion:

I was thinking the same thing - popular vote doesn't count for squat in a Presidential election.

I wasn't sure what people meant by Bush not getting the most votes, I figured they couldn't have meant the popular vote since in several states when winner was clear the mailed in votes weren't even counted since they couldn't effect the election in that state. Therefore, we do not have an accurate account of the popular vote. But I guess that is what they are referring to, because Bush did receive the electorial votes needed from the electorial college.

"....since the man with the most votes did not become president."

Ya know, when I was in the 4th grade- I was in a spelling bee... I didn't win....... I'M OVER IT!

Disnee Dad Says................................RM, I am really sad that you ripped my post to your thread. I was trying to make you look credible.
I didn't believe what I posted, but I thought I gave you a chance to pick one to save face. Instead you dis them all, which is cool cause they were lame. So now you are stuck with the revenge theory, which has a 0% chance of being true. Now you look like a fool and I can't save you, but I tried. I really did.

You are kidding right? I would at least hope so, because this is a horrendous statement to make. This implies that even if they had known about the attacks, they would have allowed them to happen anyway. If you really believe that, then I wish you better times.
