Hyperspace Mountain or Goofy Movie is going to replace Aerosmith (Rumor)

The avatar deal wasn't made to sell merchandise. It was likely a knee jerk reaction to potter and Cameron likely had to sweeten the deal somehow.

Guardians in tower is pure money grabbing. They could build a brand new ride but no let's take the cheap route and sell as much merch as wel can.

Yes pirates is a huge franchise but it was based off of an existing ride and likely will never see another pirates ride in the us.

The guardians move has nothing to do with paying CBS.

Frozen should've been its own e ticket ride in fantasyland but again took the cheap route and look at that big store at the end of the ride.

Mickey's Rockin roller coaster is not a real rumor. It's from screamscape I don't count that.

It starts at th top with Bob Iger and isn't going to change until he's gone. Look your head of parks and resorts has no background whatsoever in theme parks but has plenty of background in consumer products...

I agree with you...except guardians.

People want marvel...they don't want that.

The only angle I see is maybe they don't plan on keeping tower in Anaheim longterm - it is a product of the bad cloning era - and when guardians goes bye bye in 5 years...maybe they tear it down.

That's a "reasonable" angle...I suppose.

Well there sure is a lot of guardians merch in that super hero store in Disney springs. I can't see them getting rid of the tower after they redo it in five years no way. Guardians was a successful marvel film and has a second one coming out. You may not like it or want merch for it but others do/did.

Spiderman, captain America, hulk, Thor, ironman, xmen (specifically wolverine), fantastic four, silver surfer....

...

"Next best thing"??

You're gonna have to trust me on this. This isn't about demand for product. Guardians is a nice group of characters...but not "iconic". It's a monument to fake tan Bob and a rather feeble attempt at diminishing Comcast - at least in Orlando.

They want to collect fees and try to sabotage at the same time. The ultimate Hollywood weasel move. Won't work.

My sister who is 22 is HUGE into Guardians. Plus I think right now guardians 2 is in a vast majority of people's top lists of movies to see next year

I for one think thrill rides should never be IP. Even the great Potter is a mistake. Keep e-tickets IP free and do seasonal overlays. Think about it. All the good e ticket rides are IP free and the ones that are IP (Pirates) the IP came after the ride.

Dark rides of iconic movies are IP. Convertible theaters. Shows. Parades. IP.

I hate to admit it but HP land and the castle ride is not a 30 year ride. Cars land is borderline. Star wars land might be the exception but it's also the biggest and deepest IP there is.

Anyhow. They are going to go over the top IP. We all know it. And it'll take 30 years to unravel it all.

Not that I think they will or should get rid of TOT --- but remember the new trams for back lot?

Perhaps they should make a new land based on the Tower's theming. I'd love to visit a haunted or gothic themed land with a Nightmare b4 christmas rollercoaster and show.

I like Micca's idea, Tower can always be themed to the old Mickey Haunted House cartoons. Those were classics.

YES PLEASE!

I don't think you can compare that to this. New trams is a DHS VP decision. They don't go hey Bob we need you to approve new trams for DHS. No the VP of DHS and president of WDW approve that. Things like Star Wars land come from the top and they don't care and probably didn't even realize the trams were only a year old.

I hope they get rid of it...

Why? Because (allbeit a clone)...it's a classic, WDI designed, beautifully theme walt Disney caliber attraction...

It was designed and constructed brilliantly...

So if they do an ill advised, desperate looking sales pitch for Walmart caliber merchandise...then let them have it. Then knock it down. Don't let it rot...like we have seen far too often (*cough* EPCOT) with this misguided, greedy leadership.

I've heard an iteration of this rumor before. I think 'A Goofy Movie' was OKAY, but in my opinion it makes ZERO sense for an RnRc overlay. Yes it does seem that they're trying to put some of their classic characters back in the spotlight (the Mickey Mouse/GMR redesign) but this seems like a very random choice. Also, is it me or have we also heard the whole "well-dressed men ask several guests at the end of the park day if they'd like to test a new ride/idea/soundtrack" before with another ride?

I think DHS is going through an awkward phase and a bit of an identity crisis, but in 3-5 years I think we'll see it emerge as an even better park with several headliner rides. For a RnRc redo, my money's on them keeping the track, re-configuring the ride vehicle, retooling the story line, and either using a new band or tying it to a new IP that has yet to emerge.

Goofy movie is an incredibly obscure source for something so much as an e-ticket but once I heard the potential "rumor" it made sense with the movies storyline. Kind of in the same boat but I actually live the idea of bringing the classic characters into the spotlight

Well, a few big rides have been IP based .... Splash Mountain, 7 Dwarf Mine Train, Radiator Springs Racers, Tower of Terror (sort of)

But I agree that a lot of my favorite Disney Rides are IP free - Jungle Cruise, Haunted Mansion, Mystic Manor, Everest, Grizzly Gulch Runaway Mine Train, Big Thunder, etc.

I think with things like HP and Star Wars, there is always new material so a new generation getting into it (at least so far with HP and now the new Beasts movies coming out) and they could keep the lands and add/change attractions within them

Splash mountain isn't really IP based. It's based on a little known movie that is not available. It relies on story telling. 7DMT. Meh. It's a hybrid converted dark ride Certainly fun and unique and an example of decent use but long term e ticket? Unlikely. RSR I called out as something that is interesting to watch.

But notice the trend? The more recent you get the more closely tied to IP. There is no doubt they are moving to IP. I'm saying that is a bad idea for something you want to be e-ticket class.

To be fair, IPs have always existed in the parks, regardless of their ticket rankings, and a good majority of these are classics. Look at Peter Pan's Flight, people ride it not because of the IP (well with the exception of those hipster teenage girls) but because of the ride system. Not to mention if you like the source material it's a neat way to experience that world

The important thing is to do the RIGHT thing with the Ip...

You want to reuse the haunted mansion ride concept from Hong Kong? Build a tangled ride...

You want to put in guardians of the Galaxy? Try not to put it in your haunted house...

You want to finally do something somewhat appropriate with Star Wars? Use gravity and leave the simulators to EVERYTHING Else...

Just a thought

Well, even if it is a little known movie, the storylines and songs, etc. in Splash Mountain are from an IP

Personally, I don't care if they are IP based on not - just make awesome rides. if and IP can add to it (like I think will be the case for Star Wars land) then great, but don't force it (like, the Pandora rides might be great but I don't think they need avatar as an IP for them to be great)

And IP had a place like I said. But it's never been a good strategy to make an e ticket IP based. Tastes change. Things become dated. When you are tied to a "trendy" IP and the time comes to change it - there is serious angst and problems swapping an IP ok e ticket vs a show or parade or even small dark ride.

As great as Cars Land is - what happens in 20 years when it looks like old dated technology and kids don't watch it and cars are autonomous and it looks old? How do you fix CarsLand and RsR in general? TestTrack does not have that problem.

But wait-- so the do an overlay on tot-- then at some time in the future (5 years) they decide to do a total re do of the park and tear down tot-- are they going to say "wait 5 years ago we spent money on a change to this attraction to sell merchandise, so we can't do the park reno?" That doesn't hold water for me.

I personally can't wait for the Star Wars boat ride. Maybe they'll put it in Epcot... between Mexico and China.

:D
