As much as I would like him to, my husband won't commit to buying a DVC membership. We will be going back to the Wilderness Lodge twice in less than 3 years. Granted the first vacation was a family trip and this one is for my mom's 70th birthday. I plan on taking the DVC tour if I can get him to consider it. I think he will. What other things could I try? Looking into it, it seems like a deal! Please help! Leaving in May.

Try to get him to go to the presentation with you - if he won't, get a copy of the video (its free) and try to get him to watch the in room channel on DVC. Hopefully that will help sway him.

He needs to go tour the models so he can see how much bigger the villas are than a regular hotel room.

Good Luck! Let us know if he comes around.

Try and rent points to stay at a DVC resort. That is what hooked us ;).

I was sold after the tour/talking with our guide. I was actually upset that we didn't take the tour on our honeymoon even though we probably weren't in a financial postion to buy back then.

I'm sure Richyams is going to love to hear this-take him over to OKW and ask to see a 2 Bedroom. DH "tolerated" my desire to buy DVC, even after we went "home" the first time to VWL. But after touring the OKW 2 Bedrooms, which we did after we joined, he came out finally convinced that we'd definitely made the right decision.

OKW is really what DVC is all about. Those tiny rooms at BWV, BCV....etc. are absurd. A two bedroom at BWV is basically the same thing as a room at the Contemporary, a two bedroom at OKW just feels more like home.

Let me complement you on your chosing such a wise and astute husband, obviously a man of taste and distinction.

Denise,

If you have the income (and Disney does not require that you have a lot), buy it yourself. My husband does not like to go to WDW, and I go several times per year. Buying DVC on my own was the greatest thing for me. Check to see if there are any restrictions in your state concerning married people purchasing property seperately though.

Rhonda

Don't want to be the downer on this but maybe your husband is right. I love our DVC member ship, (2 contracts at BWV and 1 at BCV) but it is not for everyone. My personal quick test to se if DVC is right for someone is how often they go. If it's once a year or more you should definitly join.

The other question is do you see yourself going reguarly for the next 7 to 10 years? If yes going twice every three years may make sense.

Does your husband like WDW? I know there are all of the trade options etc. but if he does not want to go there's not much point in joining.

Probably the most convincing argument is financial. If you plan to go regularly and if you consider inflation, DVC makes wonderful economic sense. Work out the numbers.

Hope to see at a DVC resort soon.:D

Hi, my Dw and I first looked at and did the tour for DVC in '99, we finally decided in 2002 to buy at BCV'S. Why....because we love the location, the atmospere at Beach Club is great, and we were not disappointed with our accomadations on our first trip home.
The difference between staying ina DVC room and a regular hotel room can not be put into words, especially if you get a 1 or 2 bedroom.
Do you like going coach and getting a bag of crackers or the extra large comfy seats in 1st class with the champagne and extra attention. This might be a way to explain the difference.
Good luck, will be worth the time and effort to talk your husband into this decision.

Rhonda!!! You go girl!! I love that. I wish I could do it like that, but I think in Massachussets, I have to purchase with my husband. Also, he would never stand for it, in that he is more of a Disney fanatic than I am..me go to Disney without him? NEVER!!!

Leave him! (just kidding)

Seriously, if you have 2 trips planned you are probably half way to breaking even so now would be the time to decide, not after the two trips.

My DH does not love Disney at all. I have to admit, that I convinced him to take a short trip to just "See" the DVC. It was our 25th Anniversary when we took the tour. We rented poiints from a member for our stay. He didn't care for OKW (Sorry!) But when he saw the VWL, he at least considered DVC. He eventually did buy me points at VWL. However, on our last trip we had to extend our stay due to a flight change and I booked PO. When we walked into the room he said "I don't think I could stay here for a week!" (We had just left our 1BR at VWL). I know that at that moment he knew DVC was a good choice!

I would try this..........

And if that doesn't work, you can resort to my tactic: Nagging!!!

If you can, get him to tour the units. That will be pretty much all you need to convince him.

I usually don't reply to Richyams teasing, because that just gets him going more. But, I just wanted to let the original poster know that the rooms at BCV, BWV and VWL are not "tiny". OKW are definatly bigger, but the rest are not tiny. Below are the rooms sizes of the 2 bedrooms:

BWV - 1,071
WLV - 1,080
OKW - 1,333
BCV - 1,083

My first house was only 1,000 square feet so all of these are bigger then my first house.

What you HAVE to do, is rent points from & owner & stay in a 1 bedroom villa for your next trip... This alone will convince him that DVC is for you :smooth: DVC sells itself much better than anyone else could!!!

I called DVC and set up an appt. on my own. Then when my husband asked me what i was going to do that day -we were at a convention for him at the time - i told him i was going on a tour and presentation. He said "you can't go by yourself to one of those things, i better go with you". "really?" I said! So he went, took the tour, they went over the $$ and when our guide left the room, he said "I think we need to do this." "Oh really honey, what a great idea". I worked for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
