Luggage Tag mailing has really changed

I got our luggage tags in the mail today and I just wanted to say I really miss the little spiral booklet they used to send them out in. We sailed on the treasure in March and got the tags with the little folded information card. Today I just got our luggage tags for our Mediterranean cruise and now they don’t even send the folded information card it was just an oversized postcard with our sailing information and castaway status. It’s always exiting to get them in the mail and I was a bit disappointed to see the change. I think we will be printing them out at home soon like other cruise lines.

Lame
It’s never a good sign when a company or person starts doing what everyone else is doing, so if they move to printing you know it’s over.

RCCL is much easier! Download the PDF file and print it on your own printer (preferably a color printer). Fold and tape on luggage or insert in plastic, re-usable luggage tag available on Amazon. RCLL is way, way ahead of the game!

I hate the idea of needing to both waste ink and need to buy a holder VS DCL who ships them to you and you just put them on.

Royal beats DCL at Muster Drill but I do not find needing to print and then fold, tape, or purchase luggage tag holders an upgrade. Isn't Royal just basically making it your issue VS DCL getting them ready and shipping them out? And if they don't come the porters at DCL have plenty and just tag your bag for you. Why would I want to do more work for my vacation?

We don't own a printer. Haven't had to print anything in years - its all digital. Putting the onus on guests isn't what I'd personally think is "ahead of the game", but tbh I appreciate that they aren't wasting the gas and manpower to hand deliver them. If this is the direction they're going we'd just wait till we get to the port and use the tags they provide there.

We sometimes book cruises a year or more in advance so the arrival of the DCL luggage tags and booklet just adds to the experience and anticipation of the upcoming cruise. I have cruises on Norwegian and had to print out the tags and it was not convenient at all compared to getting already printed ones mailed to the house.

need to buy a holder
You don't NEED to buy a holder. Packing tape works just fine. And you don't HAVE to fold all of it. As long as the important parts are showing, you can lose the middle sections of the fold to make it thinner.

Fold, packing tape all around, hole punched, and use a pipe cleaner or yarn or string. You can tie it on the morning of the cruise. Easy peasy.

I still need packing tape (or some kind of tape), a hole punch (or something similar), and a pipe cleaner or string—plus the paper and ink to print it all... (assuming you have a printer)

VS DCL, who mails the tags straight to my door. I just peel off the backing and stick them on the bag- and if they don't arrive, DCL has extras at the port. I just tell the porters my room number and they take care of it.

Sorry, but Royal is definitely a downgrade compared to DCL when it comes to luggage tags.

Every cruise line I've been on - including Royal and Celebrity - have extra tags at the port.

I'd rather that than have to trust the postal service to get tags to me. They send them without a tracking number, so even if my Informed Delivery shows them, if they don't show up (because they got delivered to the wrong building, because my carrier decided to take the envelope, etc.) I have no special tags and Disney has wasted money and resources. And I still have to use the ones at the port.

The ones we don’t end up using we keep for bookmarks/ souvenirs. They are perfect for memories as they have all the info on them. It will be a huge downgrade if Disney ever does away with them.

Meh, Not a fan of printing and folding the luggage tags, but got used to it. After my last RCCL cruise, I am just not a fan at all anyway. The worst cruise I ever experiences. Glad to be back on a DCL soon.

As others have also mentioned, I don't have a printer. So for me this would be a downgrade.
