Hurricane Matthew Closes WDW - Reopens Saturday, October 8th

This is why I hate it when people try to sugarcoat the news. No one wants anyone to panic, but people need to know the truth. Hurricanes are killers. People who are not prepared and take these storms lightly are putting themselves at risk. Where I live we are 50 miles inland. When hurricane Rita hit, we were on the west side of the storm. You know the "safe" side of the storm. Well, my town looked like a bomb had gone off. We were without water and sewer for several days and without electricity for weeks. Please please please take this storm seriously. My philosophy is prepare for the worst, and pray for the best.

Rita was awful and is often forgotten. I was a senior when it hit and more best friend had to come to school and shower because his house with out water or electricity for like 3 weeks. I think our attendance actually went up during that time since the schools got their power back far before the farms did.

Which resort?

What about park it at DS and then bus back to your resort? You won't be driving anywhere tomorrow and can bus over to pick it up on Saturday.

Is Disney Springs closing up earlier, too?
Disney Springs has some stores closing earlier than others.

I thought about DS. Don't know if they will allow that or not

I would email them. Put your reservation dates in the subject line dash hurricane help
Give them all the details in the rest of the email.

You also could call and leave a brief message with the same details.

WOW!!! Thank you for this information... I called, emailed and PMed them... she called back within five minutes! My fingers are crossed, she has to be able to contact her Disney rep and once the storm really comes in if she can't get a line out, it's game over. But i'm just so thrilled they are still in contact!

EDIT: YAYYYYY! All taken care of! Thank you thank you Gwynne!!!

Where were you? I have family in Lake Charles. It's never been the same since.

My brother-in-laws daughter refuses to leave also. She is 10 blocks off Daytona Beach with a 1 year old in a 1st floor apartment. The family has been begging her since yesterday to evacuate. We don't know what else to do......
Wow, if the winds aren't enough to worry about, it is the storm surge that could be a major problem. My prayers are with them.

Is this today only? Tomorrow I would hope also. Those mini fridges can only hold so much.
I think the presumption is that you buy what you need today to get you through until tomorrow evening. Since the worst of the storm should start tomorrow early in the AM, I doubt people will be able to leave their rooms and get extra lunch packs tomorrow. There are snacks and food you can buy in the shops to help get you through.

Keep trying, I was trying to call earlier today for other reasons. I just kept redialing and after like 3 or 4 tries, it went through.

So true! I was on hold for 2 hours and 10 min. and finally got through to a really great CS rep.

Just saw in my local news that WDW parks closed from 5pm today through Friday.

ETa: see post from @rteetz on the page before this for full detailed update

Thank you! Yes, load four of laundry is in the machine and third load in the drier! Can't be caught without our pants in a hurricane lol.

As for supplies, I have wine, Twizzlers and ice cream. I think we can survive with pizza on the outside grill (temporarily taking up a rude amount of space in the kitchen!) when the winds die down.

True Story - Prior to Ike's landfall I was in the middle of loads of laundry and dishes in the dishwasher when the power randomly went out about 10 hours prior to landfall. I was so mad!

Yes because food courts closing at 5pm today at All Stars. I'm not there currently, but my sister says they're currently out. Seems to be a build your own vs grab a box and go.

LOL - this is helping Disney, not their patrons. They aren't doing anyone a favor by selling a $5 meal for $13 - and the drink isn't even included. o_O

Oh, totally. I'm a local with family visiting this week so I'm staying with them at Disney. I luckily picked up a loaf of bread and PBJ on Tuesday. Disney has been bombarding the resort guests the past two days with automated messages about how they're monitoring the situation but never gave any real information until today when the closures were announced. I would bet the average family is going to be unprepared if they haven't been paying attention themselves.

At MK now and while it is sunny, the park is closing at 5. We are just planning to stay at the AKL all day tomorrow and weather the storm, do activities in the hotel, then resume our plans Saturday.

We live in Cincinnati. Years ago, maybe 2007, we had winds from Hurricane Ike come through. This was unprecedented in our area. We had wind gusts up to 60 mph. We, in Cincinnati, MILES from impact, were without power for 5 days. Now, Cincinnati is not " built" for hurricanes, but don't underestimate the power of this storm if you are 45 minutes from the coast. We were 13 hours from the coast and felt the wrath...

No lie - same here in Kentucky, for Ike. I remember driving to my uncle's retirement party, and trees were like SIDEWAYS, and saying to my ex, "Umm... should we be out in this? There's no tornado warning..." Some people were out of power even in the city of Louisville for almost a week.
