This is why I hate it when people try to sugarcoat the news. No one wants anyone to panic, but people need to know the truth. Hurricanes are killers. People who are not prepared and take these storms lightly are putting themselves at risk. Where I live we are 50 miles inland. When hurricane Rita hit, we were on the west side of the storm. You know the "safe" side of the storm. Well, my town looked like a bomb had gone off. We were without water and sewer for several days and without electricity for weeks. Please please please take this storm seriously. My philosophy is prepare for the worst, and pray for the best.
Rita was awful and is often forgotten. I was a senior when it hit and more best friend had to come to school and shower because his house with out water or electricity for like 3 weeks. I think our attendance actually went up during that time since the schools got their power back far before the farms did.
