Hurricane Jeanne, is anyone else stressing?

They are telling us that we should be prepared for hurricane force winds late Saturday into Sunday. I'm sorry for all of you who've been planning your vacations for so long. I wish Jeanne would simply disappear.

We were supposed to leave on Sunday, but after looking at the Hurricane projection we decided to move our trip up a day and leave Saturday.

It cost us $122 to change our flight between the charge for the change and the difference in airfare... not really a big deal since we got an "amazing" deal on the tickets... now its just a "good" deal.

A bonus was that I added a day to the Avis car rental and used a code from mousesavers and actually saved $5 over my previous rate... even though we added a day to the rental.:teeth:

We were also able to add a day to our Disney reservation under the same rate code we originally booked with... now hopefully this Hurricane will go harmlessly out to sea :wave2:

We are in a wait and see.. if it is gonna hit us they will prob start evacing us from our island sometime tomorrow... They have to make a discison soon since it is forcatsed to hit early sunday morning that would mean we would have to be off teh island sat... soooo I will know something this Pm I am sure

Thanks FL residents for the info. Please keep us posted. My flight is tomorrow so it will be fine. I just want it to turn for all involved esp. the residents of Fl. Enough is enough.

ruttie, keep us posted.
I am really tempted to just suck up the $400. At least the amount will not change btwn now & then so I can always make a last minute decision. Heck, I would leave Fri & drive down but dh does not want to spend 2 days in the car with dd4 & dd1!! Argh, I just did not think we would have anything to worry about after Jeanne left the 1st time. Now I know how the other people felt with the last few storms. I don't think this will be as strong as the others (unless winds intensify as it moves back towards the US). I am just afraid about flying in since I am a chicken on planes! Thank God for Xanax! I don't even mind wind & rain during the vacation (well, as long as it is not life threatening). I just want to get there safe & sound!!

another outstanding site for storm tracking is this one from the boatus site:
http://www.boatus.com/hurricanes/

Click on the storm name and then click on "spaghetti model"--which will show you a graphic of all the computer projections, so you can see where they converge and diverge.

Here in Western PA we're still trying to dig out from the devastating floods Ivan brought our way. Wishing luck to all of you on the southeast coast for Jeanne.

hey don't suck up the 400 we are looking for a room at the WLl for sat night so if that is where you are I may take them from you.. Been trying to make ressies but the system woin't and we need to plan on eveacuationg and if it turns we will just go for sat night anyway...

I called Southwest again to see if we could go standy by on earlier Sun flight. This guy was so nice & helpful. He said if they go into a "rule 85" then that means they will not charge for any changes due to the weather. He said right now they show the towns closest to Orlando at a 15% chance of enforcing this rule 85 thing. He said they would probably know by this evening what will happen & I can call back tomorrow to check. He said this hurricane was MUCH smaller then the others (he couldn't remember one from the other! He is in Houston) so they were not as concerned but he said the national weather service and air traffic control will give them a heads up if the aiports are to be affected. So, I guess on one hand I hope for the Rule 85 so I can leave earlier, on the other I hope the 85% chance of this NOT affecting me will take place!

Very latest computer models...It doesn't look too good at this point.

Let's hope this changes!

I'm scheduled to leave on Monday so I'll be keeping a close eye on the storm ... :(

I fly in Friday night, so I should get there OK. I'm with a few other people who said as long as I get there, I'll deal with it.

It does stink though! Not really for me since I can deal with staying in my room for a day of my vacation. I just hate that FL has to go through this again. It's not fair.

We are leaving Saturday morning. I hope it goes out to sea. FL doesn't need anything else. I can live though some rain, well, I hope so. Being stuck in a room with a 3 1/2 year old might get me though. :faint:

Just watched the news here in boston and they say it will impact florida on saturday night for landfall it is 104 mph winds. God bless all those souls in fl. They really dont need this now.:(

Oh stitchchick, I'm so sorry! :(

OK, we're off in a week. Geez...
Is there any other hurricanes tailing on Jeanne's tail?

:( I am so sorry! :( Well, at least you will have a great story to tell when you get older.

It really has been an unbelievable year.

I feel so terrible for all of you folks in Florida for having to deal with this over, and over again.

Maybe, if we all blow really hard, we can make her track a little more to the East... like out to sea.... :hyper:

Everything happens for a reason.

Friend in waiting,

the hurricane wouldn't be any fun, but spending a day in your room while on your honeymoon wouldn't be so terrible! ;)

Just as an FYI they just did a mandatory evacuation of my husband's grandfather who is in Jupiter FL which is about 100 miles from Orlando. He thinks he heard they closing the Orlando Airport...

The MCO website says that there are no plans to close.

http://www.orlandoairports.net:/goaa/main.htm

Of course that could change at any time.

I know that MCO has closed a couple of times this summer. Do they normally close if they don't anticipate getting more than heavy rain/some wind? In other words--if they think they weather will cause damage and make flying dangerous they will close, but how easily do they usually close?
