Hurricane Irma?

Hi all, I'm going to Disney on the 15th...will be flying out of Albany NY to MCO on the 14th, and flying home on the 16th. The weather should be cleared up by then, right? Not sure if the park will be closed or MNSSHP cancelled. I think my flight path is far away enough from the coast of the Carolinas to miss whatever is left of Irma by then...

I'm flying out of Buffalo to Orlando on the 14th. The track provided by the National Hurricane Centre estimates that the eye of the storm will be passing up the east coast of Florida and the best estimate for heavy impacts on Orlando is 8pm Sunday and overnight into Monday morning. By Monday evening the eye is supposed to be basically at the coastal border of GA and SC. There is a chance that some remnant rain from Irma could impact New York if Irma makes landfall and then continues inland and disperses, but that likely wouldn't be enough to cancel a flight on Thursday.

If they expect winds they probably would close earlier than that. Last year during Matthew there was quite a bit of work they had to do. They ere chaining stuff down, moving things, taking down stuff.

Parks closures however took a while to get official word. I heard it from this boards before I heard it anywhere else.

I just realized you said you were talking about the airport.

Wow I really must not have made myself clear! My fault.

I was talking about the airport.

Thanks all for the ideas about rescheduling. Unfortunately we're not free dining, we were booked on a military discount so the availability on that is much lower especially with all the other families moving trips.

We could skip the dining and get the suite at rack rate, or keep dining and squeeze into a single all star room. But neither of those actually sounds worth r while I'm still grieving the perfect trip I lost. Maybe I'll be open to down grading after a few days of eating my feelings. Anyone have some cheese cake?

So does the airport closing all but confirm the parks will close as well?

So, will the park be open on Sunday? Or Monday, Or Tuesday?

If they're stopping flights Saturday evening I would assume parks will probably be closed the next day. Halloween Party will probably be canceled if there is one Saturday.

Has anyone canceled their Disney package and it is still showing up on their my disney account as not canceled? I am starting to stress over all this.

Yes, same here. It's stressing me out too but I see that money was removed from my bank account for our new reservations in January so..... Hopefully it will just take time to catch up.

So closed Saturday, Sunday and maybe Monday... No MNSSHP..... and Maybe Tuesday.... No food, no water, Making my decision pretty tough to decide what to do, I will keep checking until Friday.....

From meteorologist Jason Dunning, WBBH-NBC Florida:

It's very important when seeing updates on Hurricane Irma to remember that the storm isn't just a point on a map. This is a massive storm, close to being the size of Florida if you measure the distance of its cloud shield from one end to the other. The tropical storm force wind field is 320 miles wide. The hurricane wind field is 120 miles wide. There's a high chance most all of Florida will be impacted in some way based on the storm's expected movement along the peninsula. If you live in South Florida and live close to the coast, the sooner you leave the better. There will likely be simultaneous evacuations on both coasts, making northbound traffic a nightmare.

Whatever people decide to do, first priority is to stay safe.

If the airport isn't closing until 5 PM the parks will probably be open for at least the morning.

If I base it off the Matthew timing....MCO closed at 8pm on Thursday and reopened at 6:30am on Saturday. The parks closed at 5pm on Thursday and reopened Saturday morning.

It *could* be longer closures for Irma, but following the same model I would say 5pm Saturday parks close, stay closed Sunday and perhaps open late on Monday if Irma takes longer to clear as she is a bigger storm than Matthew was? These are just guesses based on past experience!

Last year with Matthew they waited to last minute to make that decision and announced park closures. Universal announced officially first. They have already announced water park closure, now MCO I am sure theme parks will follow.

If you are waiting for that to make your decision I suggest you make your decision not based on that.

I think you need at least another 24 hours of tracking before they can make a call on the parks. They won't keep them closed any longer than necessary. That much is for certain. During the period of time when the weather is dangerous and then following if any clean up is needed. This is why it's impossible to predict what it will be. If anything.
With the airport closing you can almost assume they'll at least close as a precaution to clear potential hazards for at least a day, like with Matthew. What beyond that is just not possible to guess.

If someone is traveling into MCO and their flight is supposed to land at 4pm Saturday but the flight gets delayed 90 minutes, will MCO advise the carrier to cancel the flight? Our flights from here in the NYC are always delayed when leaving in the afternoon. That would stink for people who were planning on going and didn't cancel their hotel/tickets etc.

Yes specially if they put on curfews which I think is coming. I know a big concern last year was having enough CM to get things running.
