Hurricane Gustav (forcast models in first post) Be safe those in the path!

:grouphug: I remember you posting during and after Katrina. I can't even imagine what another hurricane would do to New Orleans, the Ms gulf coast and surrounding areas.

I do believe we will (and already have) see a much different response from Jindal!

Jindal is on the ball, I watched the news tonight and am AMAZED at the plans and how quickly its all be set into motion! Contraflow starting Sat .. WOW!

On another note.. How the heck are ya girlie!?
Long time no chat lol!

I have to say I am highly impressed with Jindal. We have our plans in place. I just pray it doesn't come to that...

The way they are currently plotting it, it looks to move fast from the time it enters the gulf to where it makes landfall. It looks like Saturday would be the time to be leaving depending on path and speed of the Hurricane

I agree and I will be out of here quick!

From the NHC 11pm advisory:

IN ADDITION...THE FORECAST TRACK TAKES GUSTAV OVER
THE LOOP CURRENT IN THE SOUTHEASTERN GULF. AFTER THAT...GLOBAL
MODELS SUGGEST THE POSSIBILITY OF SOUTHWESTERLY SHEAR IN THE GULF
ASSOCIATED WITH THE UPPER TROUGH THAT COULD SLOW THE
INTENSIFICATION RATE. THE OFFICIAL FORECAST SHOWS A SLOWER
RESTRENGTHENING THAN THE PREVIOUS ADVISORY INITIALLY...BUT IS
OTHERWISE SIMILAR...AND ROUGHLY SPLITS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE
SHIPS AND GFDL GUIDANCE.
IT PROBABLY WOULDN'T HURT TO REMIND EVERYONE THAT THE AVERAGE 5-DAY
OFFICIAL TRACK ERROR IS ABOUT 300 MILES...AND THE AVERAGE 5-DAY
INTENSITY ERROR IS ABOUT 25 MPH.

That track put me directly in the path. I am scared. I guess we won't know for sure where it will go until Sat. morning. I wish we just knew for sure. I hate the not knowing. I want to start packing up everything important but I don't want to have to unpack it tomorrow if the path changes. I am going to wait another day. I will make reservations today to evacuate towards Houston. I can always cancel if we don't need it. My parents don't want to leave. They scare me. Please pray for us.

My dad said last night, that everyone in it's path should be ready to leave as soon as it comes across the tip of Cuba. As it will be moving and there isn't anything to slow it down from there to the gulf coast.

He is right. Its such a large cone right now. When the cone starts to narrow down there may not be that much time to evacuate the area.

As you can see from the map above, it does seem to have appeared to slow down some for the moment, not entering the gulf a day later than originally thought.

Don't wait too long to pack. I'll say a prayer it fizzles out and doesn't hit hard anywhere.

Evacuating this direction wouldn't make much sense... I would head north, if I were you. The Houston/Galveston area is just as much in the cone of error as Louisiana, and landfall is always unpredictable -- right up until the last minute.

I was talking with someone on another board last night that lives in Houston.
They said the last time Houston tried to do an evac it was utter failure.

Yeah I would move away from the coast entirely if you are going to go.

Where I'm from when a storm does what Gustav is doing, we call that backing up and getting a running go.

IMO, current maps indicate that Sunday would probably be the day to decide to pick up and go if you are in area that traffic jams and such make evacuating hard to do. Another words already gassed up, already packed up.
Again...this is just my opinion.

Hey girlie!
Whats up with the parents.. those crazy cajuns ;) .. think they can always weather the storm huh?
My best friend lives way out on Weeks Island road and is on her honeymoon right now. She is freaking out , but I think her parents are going to board up the house if need be and get stuff under control there.
I saw the report this am and was like HOLY MOLY.. thats where Rita sat for awhile!

I hope and pray Gustav goes away!!

PS.. dont go towards HOUSTON.. head up towards Alexandria if you can get ressies.. Texarkana, Toledo Bend.. Shreveport, but dodge Houston!

I agree with this. If Gustav takes a last minute jog to the west you could find yourself caught right in the middle of what you were trying to avoiding. Look toward the North West.
