Hurricane Gustav (forcast models in first post) Be safe those in the path!

We are waiting right along with yall. Walmart is selling out of supplies quick. My mil called and said she couldn't find much on the shelves and it is only thursday. I wasnt going to the store until tomorrow am.

I went to Wal-Mart Tuesday afternoon and stocked up bf it was too late. I went again yesterday.

Hey girlie!
Whats up with the parents.. those crazy cajuns ;) .. think they can always weather the storm huh?
My best friend lives way out on Weeks Island road and is on her honeymoon right now. She is freaking out , but I think her parents are going to board up the house if need be and get stuff under control there.
I saw the report this am and was like HOLY MOLY.. thats where Rita sat for awhile!

I hope and pray Gustav goes away!!

PS.. dont go towards HOUSTON.. head up towards Alexandria if you can get ressies.. Texarkana, Toledo Bend.. Shreveport, but dodge Houston!

I made reservations in Tyler Texas. I realized Houston was not a good idea. I live near Weeks Island Road. I am in coteau. Some of the older cajun people refuse to leave. They might go to my aunt's house 20 miles north of them. I don't think that is far enough. Some people are very stuborn. I have family that live in Denahm Springs and Walker. I still haven't gone to the grocery store yet. My dh bought batteries and a generator yesterday. I got terrible news this afternoon. My uncle who lives in Baton Rouge died this afternoon. I am sitting here in shock. My dad just left to go to Baton Rouge. I wonder how they are going to do a funeral with the storm.

Everyone please be safe. This hurricane sounds like it might be worse then Katrina if that possible:sad2: :sad2:

Yesterday, I stocked up on supplies and tanked up my car. The Murphy Oil station in Thibodaux had bays that were running out of gas. I had a 20 minute
wait for the pump.

I knew a lady that lived in Thiboadaux. I went to visit her once and remember thinking back in 96, that those levees couldn't be trusted. I said as much to her and her husband. Her husband said now that would take one hell of a storm!

We're probably 20 miles from the levees. The problem with the levees in New Orleans-besides the piss poor job the corps of engineers did building them-is that it's below sea level and forms a bowl, therefore, the water can't drain easily. We're a whopping 14 ft above sea level:) but a whole lot safer.

Yeah, I learned alot on my first trip to LA and NO. I couldn't believe a Southeastern city was built in a bowl, below sea level.

It's a bowl but New Orleans is still my favorite city in the world!

I love New Orleans. To me it's as close to gettting to Europe with out crossing the pond.

I went early this morning and shelves are bare! Between Target, Walmart and the grocery store I managed to get most everything we needed (we were already fairly stocked). I know the Walmart in Walker is expecting trucks with nothing but water and batteries either tonight or tomorrow. My neighborhood grocery is restocking water tomorrow so hang in there and keep trying!

I'm so sorry about your uncle

Do you think your parents would go to your family in Denham Springs or Walker? I'm from Walker and that area has traditionally fared well with the big storms. Tell them you don't need the added anxiety of worrying about them (but I understand...my dad wouldn't have left either)!

Hopefully the evacuations will go more smoothly this time. I'm watching the press conference now and it sounds like they have a good plan in place. I agree with everyone else, head north. Good luck and stay safe!

Jindal is on the ball, I watched the news tonight and am AMAZED at the plans and how quickly its all be set into motion! Contraflow starting Sat .. WOW!

On another note.. How the heck are ya girlie!?
Long time no chat lol!
Seriously long time!!! I'm not around as much.

I'm great how are you??

Everyone be safe. Also, leave, there is nothing in your house more valuable then your life.

Side note: People really need to learn that levees, bridges, buildings anything man made truly doesn't stand a chance when a force of nature comes through. Whether it be winds to make a tree topple, or a storm surge, anything in the path has the possibility of being destroyed, no matter how well "man made" it is.
