my mother and father took my kids out to mcdonalds this morning. my mother was conversing with my kids, when the little girl (about 6-7 yrs old) in the booth behind them leans over the seat and says to my mother, "be quiet." my mother looks at the girl's father who just sits there and looks back at her. now my mother showed incredible restraint and just turned back around. I would have definitely said something to the father about teaching his child manners.

what kind of parent allows their child to tell an adult (and complete stranger) to be quiet?!?

I am very fearful for what will become of the next generation!

I would have been mortified if my child would have said that, I doubt I would have done much at the table. I would have taken them to the car/bathroom and had a little talk. Then they would have apologized to the person as would I

Im sorry op, but there has been a similiar story here a couple weeks ago between a grandma type and a young kid.

My opinion...HOW RUDE! That kid would have been in big trouble if she were mine! Did the father hear her say that?

If I was grandma, I probably would have been fuming but wouldn't have said anything. But I would be thinking exactly what you are. I can't imagine my dd6 doing that, and if she did she would be in big trouble when we got home and I would have made her apologize to that grandma. Im sorry this happened to your mom. Maybe the girl was telling grandma to be quiet because her parents often tell her to be quiet The dad should have said something to dd.

Well, how loud was your mom being? Was she disruptive, you know some people go to McD's to have a quiet lunch and not be bothered by the conversations of others.

I was going to say--my first thought was, we just had a thread where the roles were reversed and it seemed that the person who said "be quiet" got a pass.


So I can't tell if this is a joke or for real.

But it goes to show you, that sometimes we do hold children to higher standards than adults.

Humm, interesting. This is like that other thread about McD's only on bizaro world (or Earth 2 for you Ron & Fez fans). On that thread it was ok for the adult to tell the child to be quiet, I guess it is only fitting that the same is true of the reverse. To approve of this in one direction and not the other seems a bit inconsistent to me.

I rally don't care either way, it is what it is and the world will continue to revolve. The title of the thread made me think it was about a mass shooting or something. I don't know if this really is a sign for the end of human decency.

I think this will be an enjoyable thread, I'll subscribe.

My SIL's granddaughter stuck her tongue at her when they ran into each other at the drugstore, then she tried to kick her-acting very bratty.

Her Mother and other grandmother said nothing.

The difference is that on the other thread the child was not keeping his hands to himself. Was the grandmother keeping her hands to herself or was she pestering the 6 yr old girl?

Yes, kid was very rude, is big difference between an adult correcting a child's behaviour and a kid mouthing off at an adult. Kids are kids, adults are adults, the same rules do not apply in many areas of life, this is one. Respect thy elders!
