I read somewhere that Poly has a hula hoop contest. Is this still going on? Has anyone's child done it? What does it entail? DD is very proud of being her school's "Hula Hoop Queen" (her words:) ) and was very excited when I mentioned it.

Hi there

It takes place at Ohana restaurant at dinner time, they have coconut racing and hula contests for the kids during dinner.

Sounds like your DD will blow the competition away!

Was it who can do it longest? Her record is 17 minutes. Or is it tricks? She can skip, jump, walk, do it on her arm, leg, foot, neck etc... I wouldn't ask, but you know 8 y/olds! She keeps asking me every 5 minutes!

It's not really a "contest". All of the kids (of all ages) participate and all get a gummy worm prize at the end.

I'm sure if your daughter is the "star", they will bring some attention to her. ;)

Having an evening meal at 'Ohanas is a favorite for our family - the hula hoop contest and coconut rolling is just an added treat.

Hi there ~ yes I believe it is the longest!

They give the kids hoops and line them all up till the winner remains.

This is not a formal contest with times/rules.. just something fun for the kids to do during dinner. I'm not even sure if there are prizes ~ any DIS'ers here know?

From what i could see the Hula Hoop activity is not really contest. All the kids ( and some adults) can go grab a Hula Hoop and the music comes on and everyone does their thing. The person running it can not see everyone who is participating as it is a large restaurant. They do this for 5 minutes and then it ended.
I know that in the Coconut races they have given out prizes (to everyone who participates) of gummy worms.

Oh good! I'm glad it's not a formal contest. I'd never hear the end of it if she messed up or "lost"! Thanks for all the information!
