how's the pool at AKL?????

Very nice, zero entry...and no where else can you see a non-indiginous species wander by while you're in the hot tub :)

My kids prefer the pool at the Polynesian with the volcano slide. They still liked the one at AKL but said the slide wasn't fast enough. :)

Hi chrissy,
It means you can walk into the pool and it gradually gets deeper. Kind of like a wave pool - if you've ever been to a water park (except without the waves).

The pool at AKL is very nice, very large and a bit of a diffirent color. It is a muted blue sort of mimicking a watering hole. It has a small slide. It is a very beautiful setting HOWEVER it is not as fun as allot of the other pools. I think the pools at the GF, Polynesian, Y & B Clubs, Boardwalk, CSR and even POFQ are more fun for kids. The Pool is still fun and in conjuntion with the live animals roaming around the resort makes for a great stay.

I really liked the pool at the AKL. Granted, the slide is not as long or fast as the Keister Coaster and the pool is not as "fancy" as Stormalong Bay, but still, it's a good pool in my opinion. It's a large pool, so even when it's crowded you can still find your own space. Also, I liked the locations of the hottubs. They seemed very large to me also.

I found the AKL pool to be one of the most beautiful pools in WDW , but as the previous poster stated it is not a very "fun" pool. It's like standing in a very large watering hole and it didn't seem to be very deep. It does have a slide, though it isn't very fast and a very short ride. I'd say it's the best pool in WDW to relax and enjoy the atmosphere which is amazing, but not a great pool for swimming. My favorite pool is Wilderness Lodge

I love the pool at AKL. It's so beautiful and relaxing. I enjoy the zero entry since I have a toddler. My 4 yr old loves it too because it has a slide that doesn't scare him. My 7 yr old much prefers the clown pool at the BWV. Another thing I love at the pool is the bar:cool: They have the best drinks.

Mirlow,

Can't wait to try this pool. My 4 year old and 2 year old love the water and zero entry pools make it so much easier.

Will have to try those pool bar drinks. Any recommendations?

I liked the water temperature a lot better than others I have been in...it seemed warmer than WL, and deeper, we had fun!

Also. for those interested this pool is not chlorinated.. they have some enviromentally "natural" processing of the water that purifies it... animal friendly and you don't smell like chlorine =)

>>^..^<<

they also have the BEST lifegaurds!!! There is one young man espically that for a couple of reasons we will never forget. The first reason being his sense of humor. The kids just called him the alligator man. He had all the kids convinced that alligators lived behind the fence in the creek just past the slide and that they were let out at night. He told the kids that it was crocidiles who ate kids though so they didn't have to worry. He would also measure them against his red life guard throw and tell them to come back when they were taller than it and they could help him "skin" the gators. This was all told in good fun and the kids weren't scared just SURE there were gators living behind the pool!!!
But the real reason he will always be remembered is that on the last day of our stay I was quite ill. I told the kids they could swim while I watched. I did leave the pool area for a few minutes to go get some Sprite and when I came back the alligator man was walking by DRENCED!! He just smiled and commented on the cold wind. I smiled and said to the woman next to me I hope he didn't have to jump in after my little Sarah!! She said yeah I think thats what they called her. OH NO!!! I called to SArah and the lady said yeah thats her! When the gaurd came back he was so nice about it he said that she had gotten in a spot she couldn't touch and was just going round in circles calling to her brother who couldn't hear her so he jumped in and got her out! The pool really isn't that deep the deepest is like 4' 3" but she just was in the one spot she couldn't touch. It was GREAT to know that the gaurds really do watch the water!!!!! I wish I could remember the young mans name!! THANK YOU!!!!!

just curious how the pool at AKL compares to the others around the world......:p

We enjoy the AKL pool very much and find it our second fav only to Storm-A-Long Bay at the YC.

Lizzie they have a few specialty drinks and we liked them all. You can't go wrong with any of them. I love to try the specialty drinks at the pool bars. When I go resort hoping it's nice to sit by the pool and have a drink. I thougth the Lava Flow at the Polynesian was the best until we tried the drinks at AKL:cool:

Mirlow - Umm sounds yummy. Since we're splitting our AKL stay with the Poly, I'll have to try that lava flow.

We have stayed at the AKL twice and love the pool! I am a warm water person and that pool is always comfortable (I personally found the Poly main pool too cold to swim in, although the quiet pool there was fine).

When the slide opens, a CM will invite the children to the top of the slide and hand out various African instruments for them to play while they repeat an African chant to get the water flowing. Then they all go down the slide. My kids got a kick out of that.
