Sorry I wasn't more clear on the boats. There are two boats that run from Fort Wilderness to the Magic Kingdom and back one is a small boat that you have to step down into, the big boat you can roll the stroller, wheel chair or ECV onto. If you want the big boat and the small one is there just wait the next one will be the the big one. These boats only run between The Fort and the Magic Kingdom.

A couple of questions for you FW experts...sorry if this has already been asked. I haven't read the entire thread, yet.

1. When we arrive, we check in at the very front...then drive to our cabin?? Can 2 cars park at the cabin or just one. My parents will have a car, too.

2. How many people can fit on a the golf carts? Trying to decide if we need 2. DH won't be joining us until the CR stay so it will be 3 adults and 3 kids (9, 5,4) We aren't big people...kids are fairly small.

3. Are there any 'bad' loops that we wouldn't want to get?

We have visited FW many times and have always wanted to try it...just wasn't sure if we would want to do an entire week. So, we decided to add on a couple of days before out CR stay to see if we like it. The kids are excited! We aren't going to the parks...just hanging out at FW...going to try all the fun things the campground has to offer.

Thanks for y'alls help!

1. Yes, after you check in, you will just drive straight to your cabin. Only 1 car is allowed at each site, but you can keep one car at the front.

2. While the carts are supposed to only be for 4, I think you'll be more than fine with 3 adults and 3 kids, especially if the kids are young and the adults are average size.

3. No bad cabin loops, as long as you have a golf cart. :goodvibes

Have a great time!

Thanks so much for your answers, lklasing! DH is coming in late on our last night there, so he will have to park up front...one of us can go and get him. Guess we'll keep one golf cart...if it looks like it's going to be too crowded, then we will rent another. One more question...I made a ressie for the cart...do they rent out quickly or could I just get another one when we get our first cart?

Thanks again!

In looking at your ticker, it looks like you are going in late May - maybe Memorial Day? They do sometimes run out of carts at FW, so you may or may not be able to rent one last minute. I think if I were you, I think I'd just stick with the one reservation and roll the dice on either not needing a second or being able to get one last minute if you do.

Have fun!

Just wanted to say thanks again. We just got back from our overnight stay and I loved the cabin!! I didn't have to worry about the kids being too loud, loved the separate bedroom and although we really didn't use anything but the fridge and microwave I loved that it had them. The buses (internal) ran smoothly. I didn't find the cabin to be too dark but I'm really blind so I do wish there had a been a bit more light in the bathroom when I was trying to put on makeup. Not much I can do for that though.

The kids loved the place. We didn't get to swim so no review there but we did eat at Trail's End for breakfast (2 adult/2 kids/1 toddler) and it came to like $55 for a buffet. Not bad! We let them play on the playground for a bit and then checked out the boat dock/beach area. Checkout time came way too soon for all of us unfortunately. If we can ever get a PIN (no AP's anymore :( ) we'd go back just to stay and play.

A quick question about the checkin and to the cabin. We do not have a car and will be dropped off by Magical Express. How far will the walk be from check in to the cabins.... ?

Thanks for the help!

We passed the ME drop off pt earlier. Check in is right across from it and then you can take the internal bus to get to your cabin. I'm not sure I'd want to walk.

I believe from registration to your cabin, a CM use to drive in a golf cart to your cabin. Heaven knows they wouldn't want us to haul all of our luggage on a Disney bus!

Glad to hear you enjoyed the cabins! :thumbsup2
FW is a huge hit for our children, they beg us to go back every year.

The Magical Express bus will drop you off right in front of the Outpost where you check in. After you check in ask for a ride to your cabin, they have vans just for that. When you get your return info from Magical Express the day before you leave, call the front desk and arrange for them to pick you up from your cabin and take you to the Magical Express pick up spot.
Have a great trip ,you will love it.

Hi there,

We will be staying at the Fort Wilderness Cabins for the first time in April. We've stayed at just about every other Disney resort, but never the cabins and we're looking forward to it. We'll have 6 in our party. Three adults, a 16 yo girl, a 6 yo girl and an 8 yo boy.

I have a few questions:

1. Pool. With regard to the themed pool, is it a long walk from most Cabins to that area (Meadow)? Will the internal bus system get you from your Cabin to the pool?

2. Transportation. We were not planning to rent a car, but I can do that. Is a car a necessity? Does renting a golf cart make more sense than renting a car? We're used to using Disney transportation, but have been spoiled by BWV and its ease to Epcot and DHS. We also love the transportation at Pop. Is FW's transportation generally efficient and are the boarding areas crazy crowded?

3. Grocery delivery. We like to order from gardengrocer.com. Will they be able to deliver to our cabin, or will it be held at registration? Anyone know?

Thanks for this thread and your help. We usually know the resorts inside out, but this one is completely foreign to me.

I have a bunch of questions...we are booked for a THV but can't decide if I'd rather stay at a cabin. My DH wants to stay somewhere that's quite secluded and remote, not really near others, are the cabins like this or are they on top of each other? Also do they have a regular bath tub or a whirlpool, it doesn't really matter but my kids are gonna ask me about it? The thv's are 3 bdrms but we don't necessarily need all that space, but we do have 3 adults and 4 children going so would we be too crowded do you think? Thanks so much everyone!

Can't help you with your 3rd question, but as for #1 and 2...yes, the internal bus will get you to the pool...and you are not permitted to drive your vehicle through the campgrounds (except for when you first check in and when you are leaving), so a rental car won't help you. If you're going to rent something, a gold cart definitely make a lot more sense. Have fun...

I'd say the cabins are no closer or further apart than most suburban single family homes. They are definitely not "zero-lot line" homes, but you could easily have a conversation with your neighbor if you were standing outside.

Regular tub/no whirlpool.

3 adults and 4 kids would be kind of cramped in one cabin in my opinion.

Dave,

Thanks for addressing my questions. It's appreciated. I am really looking forward to our trip. I've reserved a golf cart and will forgo the rental car. Your advice is helpful.
