Howard Stern booted...what did he say?

terminate Stern's show. But,why all of a sudden??? Stern has been around for along time broadcasting some really crude stuff.
A lot cruder than what shut him down this week. If you watch/listen to his show,this was mild!! I mean,have you seen "Wheel of Benji"????? C'mon! That show was pushin' it!!

My understanding is that Clear Channel recently had to pay a 6 digit fine for indecency on one of their shows, after which they instituted a new "zero tolerance" policy for what and wouldn't be permitted on their stations. Apparently, Howard's show stepped over the line of the new policy.

Yep, $755,000 fine (someone mentioned it earlier in the thread as well). The new policy apparently just came down from Clear Channel management only a couple days ago. A local evening radio host here was whining and moaning about the new policy as well -- apparently he has already gotten a hand slap as well.

DH is always whining because in France (where he's from) the public TV and radio stations and newspapers are owned by the government, they CHOOSE what you can read, see, and hear.

We're quickly becoming the same way and it's not ok! They're allowing a few vocal groups to decide what the rest of us see and hear. I have a brain and I'd appreciate it if the powers that be would allow me to use it!

Only up to the point that the company decides it isn't worth it to them anymore to keep making the program available. Clear Channel, like every other company is in business to make money. When they feel like a particular show is potentially a money loser rather than a money maker, or if they decide that a program is projecting an image with which they don't want to be associated, they have no obligation whatsoever to continue that program.

DH is always whining because in France (where he's from) the public TV and radio stations and newspapers are owned by the government, they CHOOSE what you can read, see, and hear.

But it isn't the government that did this, it is a company. They have every right to determine what they will and will not broadcast on stations that they own.

I'm not aware of any programs that the government has taken off the air, but perhaps I missed it.

I often listen to the show (there! I confessed it ), and over the last couple of weeks, the station manager has been telling Howard to be careful of what he says. Howard complained that he didn't know what he was allowed to say and what he wasn't allowed to say. There were no guidelines. Tom just told him to watch it.

It looks like CC was just waiting for him to say or do the wrong thing so that they could pull the plug.

What I find most disturbing about this, is since the FCC has relaxed the ownership rules you can have entire markets owned by clear channel, so there are no competitors to pick up the Howard Stern show.

Clear Channel is fast becoming an entertainment monopoly. They own much more than radio stations. They have a concert division and they are the reason concert tickets have become so expensive.

Dan, I agree completely. I would not listen to him anywhere. He is a pig and so disrespectful. For the people that do listen to him, would your like you child or teenager to listen to him? I am not a prude but I find his ideals ( or lack there of) disgusting.

Hiding your child from it only delays what he/she will see in the future.


If I had a child, I wouldn't stop him listening to him. Comedy is good for children

My children don't know who Howard Stern is, and I don't feel that they need to know everything humanly possible about their parents.

If they choose to listen to him when they are adults, that is up to them.

My kids do not listen to Howard and are not allowed to watch South Park.
I turn off Howard when he gets into his porn thing (for myself).

Aside from the porn stuff I find his ideas refreshing concerning politics and the media.

When my kids are adults if they want to listen to him I don't have a problem with that.

THAT's what they got him for? Man... I heard that and didn't think anything of it.

I used to despise Howard Stern, but now I listen to him most every morning. I still don't have much respect for him, but the show is entertaining. I DO like how they laugh in the face of political correctness. THAT's refreshing. The porn material I could do without. I still don't think any of it is appropriate for daytime radio.

As for Bubba the Love Sponge... that guy is TRASH. Tampa radio was unbearable in the morning. You can't even get music. All you get is pornography. I was just speechless once when they were interviewing a guy and girl during the process of a BJ (supposedly). It was repulsive! Then, after they let that pass, that kind of garbage was about all you could hear. Sorry, but that stuff should not be allowed on the a.m. airwaves (or any time, IMO). It is too easily accessed by kids. I was just thinking of all the kids who were listening to that on the bus on their way to school. Good riddance, Bubba! Oh how I would love to see this guy waiting tables at the local Applebees.

Sorry, but there ARE things that should be kept from your children. You really don't think that a 10-yr-old brain processes things the same way as ours, do you? I wish my parents wouldn't have let me watch the news or scary movies when I was young. I can't tell you how many times I cried myself to sleep because I thought the world was full of people trying to break into our house and kill us, and that the world was doomed to atomic annihilation. Not to mention all the plane crash TV movies in the 70s/80s. I still see those visions every time I fly! I can't even imagine what the porn talk would have done to me at that age. No wonder we have so many 13-year olds having kids.

Like I said earlier, the show was warned about CC's new policy and they chose to ignore it. Now they are paying the price. CC has the right to set rules for what they carry as unfortunate as this situation is.

I don't listen to Stern because he comes across as sleazy to me but I do listen to a shock jock that's based in Dallas. He'd better watch himself apparently because I THINK he's on a CC station.

Hi Deadheadbelle

I find myself usually agreeing with HS's political views, but there are times when I have to change the channel. (Yes, I can do that.) For example, a few weeks ago, he had on a senior citizen porn actress. They were making fun of her, and she didn't realize it. It was painful to listen to, so I changed the channel.

As far as when the radio show is aired, my children are young enough that I can keep an eye on what they are watching and listening to. Most of the year kids are in school when the show airs, but of course there is summer vacation. But to be honest, I've never heard anyone complain that they've caught their child listening to HS.

Personally, I would not subject my child to such filth. Maybe the world needs to be cleaned up a bit. I was offended by the halftime show and I am a 43 y.o. married woman. I find junk like what was on tv and trash talk like Stern very distasteful and unnecessary. But, as they say, different strokes for different folks.
